Toilet cubicle etiquette

Female toilets in work. As per diagram.
AIBU that C is the 'correct' choice of cubicle, assuming all cubicles are empty upon entry?

I was just in cubicle C, and someone entered moments behind me, and went into B. I think that's madness and can't fathom why, out of the two remaining cubicles available, you'd opt to go into the one right next to someone. curious to know if others would have done the same.

I believe that statistically, A is apparently the cleanest cubicle, due to it being used least.

YABU: B is a good cubicle choice, I like to be in the middle of things.
YANBU: B is madness and should only be selected when A and C are otherwise engaged.

Always leave as big a gap as possible.

Using the adjacent cubicle is like sitting on a bus seat already occupied by a passenger when there are plenty of empty double seats left.

Alwaystired23 · 20/06/2024 14:21

I've literally never thought about it before now. I just got in the 1st clean one. I will probably ensure I leave a gap after this ......

Wooptie fucking ping - somebody used the cubicle next to you - nae really worth greetin’ over is it.

Is that you Martha?

saltinesandcoffeecups · 20/06/2024 14:25

I’m curious if A is still statistically cleaner after it was reported that it was. Like did everyone see that same news story and now it’s the most used?

I think a follow up study needs to done.

Compash · 20/06/2024 14:27

I usually avoid the one closest to the door because I suspect more and lazier people will choose that one, so it'll be more likely to run out of paper - I excpect the further away ones to be less bummed upon. 🙂

I'm shocked that so many people just choose a cubicle at random. Granted, I can't even pee in my own house if DH is within earshot, but wandering into a cubicle without giving it any thought is wild to me. I would 100% leave a gap.

However, I avoid multi-cubicle toilets wherever possible. I have more than one invisible disability and raging IBS, so I have a radar key for when I'm out and about. My work has 4 private disabled toilets on every floor of the building and I'm so grateful that in the two years I've worked here, I have never once had to use the communal facilities.

BlankSpaceForBrains · 20/06/2024 14:51

I'm with you, OP. I like to leave a cubicle in between if I can. But I will opt for A, B or C randomly and have no preference.

A little off topic ( and lighthearted!!) but I've always wondered do men not hate having to use the urinals with guys right there with them?? The thought of someone else looking at my genitals while I'm trying to pee freaks me out so I don't know how men do it.

Fairysteps11 · 20/06/2024 15:01

I'd use A.

More shocked that people poo in public toilets!

I’d prefer not to… but if you’ve gotta go…

Wednesdaysotherchild · 20/06/2024 19:04

Yes, you always leave a gap unless you have no choice! Yanbu.

TiddlyCove · 20/06/2024 19:07

You don't know that they hadn't been into A earlier in the day and found no loo roll or some mess in there, so were avoiding it in case it hadn't been serviced since.

TwixOwl · 20/06/2024 19:37

I just go to the first toilet with loo roll!

Jifmicroliquid · 20/06/2024 19:51

Whichever one doesn’t have skid marks in the pan… or a low lying turd.

Also lighthearted...Men just love penises. Think they are toys. I blame them being taught to stand up and wee and the nicelty never quite wearing off.

I am blessed to have a husband that sits down to pee and I could never, ever go back!

PiggieWig · 20/06/2024 21:35

Logically you’re right but there might have been a turd in toilet 2 (sounds like an aeroplane announcement)

Not everyone is like Sheldon Cooper - some of us can't plan our day around our bowel movements.

FuckTheClubUp · 21/06/2024 05:35

I believe that statistically, A is apparently the cleanest cubicle, due to it being used least.

Since when? Why would I past two (hopefully clean) cubicles and go to the one at the end? I’ll use the first one available. I’ll be honest, I’ve never considered leaving a gap between the toilet I’m in and the one the other person is in. Who cares

Valeriekat · 21/06/2024 07:17

Fantastic diagram! A

Rubyupbeat · 21/06/2024 08:02

Same as most others, first clean one I find. In fact, despite of my increased mobility problems I still very rarely use the disabled toilets because they always seem to be dirty (it takes a month of Sundays to get back in a standing position though)

FireandBrimstone · 21/06/2024 17:42

EXACTLY THIS is the Mumsnet post I’ve had in my mind to write for literally years.

100% agree with you OP, anyone who chooses the cubicle right next to an occupied one, when others are empty, is batshit crazy.

starfishmummy · 21/06/2024 17:51

Maybe someone had wee'd on the seat in A so the middle-widdler backed out and chose B instead.

MumMRM · 21/06/2024 17:57

OMG! Of all the weirdest posts this must be at the top! What does it matter, they can not see you so why does it matter?

Ginnnny · 21/06/2024 18:05

I have a preferred cubicle at work and only care about whether or not that cubicle is free when I get there haha
