I loved it but can’t drink it anymore because I have a stoma.

@LizzieBennett73

A family member had had a large part of their colon removed and now have a colostomy bag. Still drinking it even though warned by Dr's not to.

I've got a question...

Why can you not drink Red Bull if you have a stoma/colostomy bag?

SmileyHappyPeopleInTheSun · 20/06/2024 13:37

I’ve never seen a toddler in a pram with a monster or red bull.

Nether have I - though have seen parents smoking above pushchairs.

I like the smell and taste of red bull - occasionally have it as part of a meal deal every few months or so as a rare treat.

I dislike coriander - I think it has very mild soapy taste - possibly indicating I carry a different olfactory receptor gene OR6A2 but so much so that I gag or can't eat dishes where it's mixed in with other flavour like some people.

I'm also not a super taster - where individuals have many more than average taste receptors - nor as I as terrible as DH who has a really poor taste and smell response to food.

No idea if I can smell Hydrogen cyanide (HCN) which smells like almonds to about 25% of people can which is apparently inherited as an x-linked recessive.

It’s parents that give Red Bull or other energy drinks to toddlers in pushchairs I find off putting

How inconsiderate and stupid are these parents

Nobody is doing this.

RedYellowPinkGreenPurpleOrangeBlue · 20/06/2024 13:27

Yep, never seen that happen. 🙄 Do you know Waynetta Slob?

You must live in a really rough area.

Until 2016 I lived in one of the most deprived inner city council wards in England and I never saw a kid in a pushchair with an energy drink, ever.

To be fair they probably couldn’t afford red bull, it’s bloody expensive.

betterangels · 20/06/2024 14:01

It gets me through tight deadlines and long car trips. I don't like coffee.

LizzieBennett73 · 20/06/2024 14:16

@RedYellowPinkGreenPurpleOrangeBlue it's the Red Bull that damaged their gut in the first place. Caused some sort of paralysis. But family member is so addicted that they can't or won't stop drinking it.

dogoverman · 20/06/2024 16:00

Ahhh the taste and I am 19 again drinking it mixed with vodka

CorvusPurpureus · 20/06/2024 18:17

I used to like it (tbh, I liked speed more, but was trying to be a grown up).

Then I drank 2 cans of Monster on top of a handful of dodgy chips whilst wearing a very tightly laced corset at a goth night.

I'm not sure I've ever had a vomiting experience like it 😁. I had horrified internal organs that haven't quite forgiven me 20 years later, & I swear I traumatised the Whitby seagulls as I wailed & puked over the harbour wall.

It was like the Exorcist, on fast forward, & smellier with more crying.

Been a bit off energy drinks since, ngl.

DonnaBanana · 20/06/2024 18:34

Why do people like avocados? They are vile also

Katemax82 · 20/06/2024 19:18

I much prefer monster or relentless

TiddlyCove · 20/06/2024 19:20

Agree with you, OP - I don't like any energy drinks.

EverythingYouDoIsaBalloon · 20/06/2024 20:29

Because I sleep badly and hate coffee.

ZoomDoomZoom · 20/06/2024 20:34

The smell of it makes me want to throw up, it has an awful smell.

Icanttakethisanymore · 20/06/2024 20:37

It’s the marketing.

if you google “Why do people drink red bull marketing essay” there’s loads of content on it.

EverythingYouDoIsaBalloon · 20/06/2024 21:04

Rebusmyfire · 19/06/2024 23:18

It smells like huge piles of horse manure.

You've been around some strange horses then! 😄

EverythingYouDoIsaBalloon · 20/06/2024 21:05

But mainly It makes my brain feel sort of quieter than usual(ADHD) it helps me sleep to like a pp mentioned

I wish it had that effect on me! (ADHD, sleep disorder)

SkankingWombat · 20/06/2024 21:45

I don't like hot drinks, so I drink them in place of coffee/tea when I need a caffeine boost (although I do make an exception for mulled wine amongst hot drinks. However, a morning glass of that is even more frowned upon than an energy drink, sadly. It would make the Winter morning school runs much more fun...). They perform a function.
Are you equally as snobby about the coffee drinkers who have to knock back a double espresso before they can start their day OP?

ArseholeCatIsABlackAndWhiteCat · 20/06/2024 22:33

I like the taste, fizz and buzz. Grin

CheeseWisely · 20/06/2024 22:35

I like the taste and used to drink a lot of it in my 20s when I was working both a day job and an evening job, but the last couple of times I've had it it's made my heart race, so it's no longer for me.

BigLicks · 20/06/2024 22:36

I've never touched red bull...or vodka since I was 18...🤮

Needanewname42 · 20/06/2024 22:38

Ausish · 20/06/2024 12:53

Because it gives you wings.

Obviously.

Exactly 💯

OohCookedPerfectly · 20/06/2024 22:41

I love the taste of it, smells like 1980s bubblegum to me! BUT literally felt like I was going to die after a night on it at uni, so have saved my poor heart from the palpitations nowadays

Youknowitsnotthesameasitwas · 20/06/2024 22:45

I like the taste, but haven’t had it for years as read it’s really bad for your body

BogRollBOGOF · 20/06/2024 23:13

I don't have many vices, and caffeine is not the worst one to have. Tea and coffee are rank. I can force green tea down on a good day, but it's not the most uplifting energy boost, particularly if it's been hard to avoid gagging on it

I like the way my brain feels sharper, calmer and more focused, and it helps with physical fatigue on long/ intense runs. It helps get through PMT fog too.

I do not get on with artificial sweetners and water is not the answer to everything on every occasion. I ended up buying one last week because that was the only non-diet drink in the shop other than a 2l bottle of coke and I needed some easily digestable energy to do a running intervals session.

Drinking about 4 per week in an otherwise healthy, active and well nourished lifestyle is not something I lose sleep over. Literally. If I'm overtired, it calms me to be able to doze off.
