As above really.

We live on a street which is one row of terraced facing a road and then allotments to the front, the same terraced to the back, gardens meeting, they're overlooking a green and then primary school.

A new couple moved in a few months ago, 2 doors up (my neighbour then them). They've bought their home, everyone my side is council.

Anyway! I was out doing my hedge earlier and new lady drove up, I've not seen her before. I waved and said welcome to the street (that's what someone said to me when we were given this house after being homeless) We were trying to comminucate over next doors front garden. I couldn't hear with cars going by and do we met on the street.

She said she had a lot of complaints and letters from council with my name and door number!!
News to me!
Im still gobsmacked. I know when they first moved in they had a party with a lot of old euro rave tunes - I was loving it!

So.. I said no, no, not me, and she said your door and your name (had introduced).

Has somebody living close by, made a complaint with my name and address? I'm livid if they have!
How do I find out? I know I can call the council, but they're not going to say it was Kourtney next door using your details.

I just feel blummin awful now. I've been here 8 years and still get treated like I'm new (and stupid).

I'm not even sure what I'm after. Just upset.

@JanglingJack you are absolutely hilarious. I wish I was your neighbour.

Can't believe the council would put the name/address of the person complaining in a letter they sent to the person they were complaining about. Talk about causing some serious issues!

Did you ask to see the letters? Maybe pop round with some cake and have a quiet chat about it. If I was them I would want to know that someone else (probably a closer neighbour) has an issue with me.

Same I worked in Environmental Protection in a Council dealing with noise complaints - no way has your name being given out,

diddl · 21/06/2024 16:46

From your wording of what she’s said, I assumed she meant she’s received letters addressed to you. As in someone has made a complaint about you but the postman has given her your mail.

That's what I thought but she'd just put it through the letterbox wouldn't she?

Toastandbutterand · 21/06/2024 16:54

Our council always do this, by 'accident'.

I've had a parcel delivered to my house containing everyone in my estates council tax exemptions before.

Had a letter yesterday about a complaint that I'm parking in visitor bays and my kids shouldn't be playing football in the street.
I don't drive and my kids are adults with their own homes.

Either someone really hates me or the council are totally incompetent. I just ignore it all now.

I hope they realise it wasn't you OP!

I don't think we'll be friend friends @BobbyBiscuits , she's, I think, about my adult sons age. He doesn't live here and on the day in question, my daughter was at her Dad's.

I think it's cruel to call her a big fat liar though. That wasn't necessary @INeedAnotherName

It's fine, I suspect she is calling out everyone, I know it wasn't me. We introduced ourselves properly afterwards and shook hands.

Im happy just to wave when our paths cross.

You might become friends! A lot of young people now aren’t as bothered by age differences like we used to be, we have many friends (from our local pub and gigs) who range from 20 to 80!

And in my experience, if you call to refute the complaint, they always tell you a name or address. Even though they're not supposed to.

But like I say, I'm pretty sure it's made up most of the time.

Read on,

I don't like friends 🤣

I am leaving now.

Thank you all for advice of various types.

I don’t think there is any use finding it out. What are you going to do with this info? Marsh to Courtney’s house and confront her?
Just bond through your shared experience by saying “oh gosh, must have been one of the old hags on the street stitching me up. Can you believe it, 8 years on and they still treat me like a new kid. Why don’t you pop in for a cup of tea sometime?”

Edited

I wouldn’t want to be mates with someone calling neighbours “old hags”. The council wouldn’t send “lots” of letters to her with the name and house number of the person complaining. She probably has had complaints about noise (I wouldn’t be “loving” her techno tunes) and is fishing to find out who it was by saying your name was on the letter. She doesn’t sound that nice and I wouldn’t be bending over backwards (or slagging off the neighbours) to try to be her mate.

I'm guessing someone has made a complaint but she doesn't know who so she's systematically going through all the neighbours to find the guilty party using the ruse of she knows name address etc. ignore and steer clear, if she was straight up she would have said hey jack sorry if were loud the other night would you believe someone has made a complaint again sorry if were loud and leave it at that.

100% this is what she's doing!

I don't know whether that is sarcastic or not! I'm kind of hoping not.

Nobody has called anybody an old hag, apart from the poster that jimmied in there themselves.

I know I keep threatening not to look anymore...
But, well I can't not!

Social services confirmed to my neighbour it was me who reported them and admitted they did so. Put my life in danger.

Maddy70 · 22/06/2024 00:04

Im guessing a shitty neighbour faked a letter from the council and put your name on it

When the council write to someone they do not tell them. The person who complained remains anonymous, other wise people wouldn't complain when issues happen. You could speak to the council and do a sar, so any information they have they have to give you. Also ask her to see the letters, just say you want to see what's been said as you've not made the complaint.

Seems to me like it's bs because they just don't give information out like that!

Yeah I think you're right. Council aren't going to give me a name. I doubt they'd even write a letter exonnerating me.
But I'm livid that either my name or door number has been used.

It was lovely to speak to her, guessing young woman in her 20s. I'm 48, was holding a garden rake, trying to my braless chest and stop sweating 🤣😭

I was thinking of buying a new home card. I don't think we'll be best of friends as I could be her Mum!

I'm just pissed off - I might be pushing 50, but I do remember my clubbing days and appreciate a tune!

Definitely log with the council that someone is using your name fraudulently. As for not being best friends with this lady, age is but a number. It's what's in your heart and mind that's important. I'm 68 and have good friends nearly 30 years younger than me. You sound like a kind and fun neighbour.

Buggeredpelvicfloor2013 · 24/06/2024 19:17

Pretty late to the party but they gave out my name when the pub next door was having raves till 4am waking both kids up and I complained after the 12th night in a row.....

Strawberryhero · 19/06/2024 20:00

Call the council and let them know any complaints from you aren’t from you. Not much else you can do.

Yes! Whoever did make the complaint in your name was very mean.
