Scared woken up with this rash all over me

I’ve been unwell since Sunday with flu like symptoms - fever, body aches, chills and fatigue. I had hives on Wednesday which seemed to go away with anti histamine. Then this morning I’ve woken up covered apart from my face in this rash as I’ve attached the photo. The skin on my stomach is the worst.
My hands are sore and stiff as well. What the hell is going on? My fever has gone now. I’m going to call the GP surgery as soon as it opens but I’m really scared as I’ve never had anything like this.

The only place not effected is my face.

@Water246 was the rash itchy?

Your symptoms are pretty bang on with mine (I also had severe sweating). Walk in centre were a little mystified, and the rash went after two days. However, a week on and I'm still have joint aches, palms feel like they have lots of tiny papercuts and food tastes weird.

Polkadotshort · 14/06/2024 13:39

@Lacurahandcream Ive had sweating too, especially at night. I thought it was my fever breaking but I’m just sweating randomly now.

@Lacurahandcream Are you any better now?

OP posts:
Lacurahandcream · 14/06/2024 13:43

I'm working but very tired as the aches are worst in the evening and interrupting my sleep. Sweating has stopped which is good and my appetite is better but not back to normal.

I did two covid tests which were negative.

Heat rash was the most obvious reason for the rash but it wasn't itchy.

My hear rate was a little high but no swollen glands and temperature was normal.

Planning on seeing GP again on Monday if I'm still feeling crap. I've had to cancel all plans this weekend as I ache so much.

@Polkadotshort It was itchy on my foot and the bottom of my leg! Then when my foot was in a sock/ shoe during the day I didn't notice it until I took it off at night. My 5 year old had the itchiness on her foot too at night. I had a fever for about 4 days at the start of it - I couldn't get it down without both paracetamol and ibuprofen. 3 of us had it plus my mother and we all had similar symptoms but not necessarily as bad as each other or in the same order.

I’ve got painful ankles and knees on and off so I’m assuming it probably is slapped cheek after all.

My wrists and ankles are so stiff and painful. Can I take ibuprofen?

OP posts:
TheMousePipes · 14/06/2024 21:36

I’ve just had exactly this! Had a rash come up all over except my face and followed by incredibly sore swollen joints that have lasted a week so far. The worst pain has been in my wrists. Today is my first day off cocodamol and I’ve felt really poorly with it. All the lymph nodes in my neck are swollen too.
Small piece of advice if you’re coming down with whatever this is - take your rings off! My hands swelled up so much dh had to hacksaw them off in the middle of the night.

Polkadotshort · 14/06/2024 22:08

@TheMousePipes i can’t stand another week of this! Sorry to hear you’ve been so unwell. I don’t have any painkillers except ibuprofen/ nurofen - do you think that would be ok or do I need stronger?

OP posts:
Perfectlystill · 14/06/2024 22:12

Viral rash

TheMousePipes · 14/06/2024 22:15

Ibuprofen should be good for this - I can’t take it die to other health issues but nsaids are really good for inflammation so should be good to help your sore joints.

neveraneasylife · 15/06/2024 00:46

Scarlet fever?

Polkadotshort · 15/06/2024 07:57

I’m pretty sure it’s slapped cheek to be honest as I’ve woken up this morning and my hands are swollen and very stiff. I could barely walk down the stairs as my ankles and knees are so sore and stiff. Plus my wrists feel the same.

How long does this last? 😭 it’s miserable.

I had it mainly in my hands, wrists, knees. It also affected my mother's elbows, ankles. It really does go away. I had it for a few days and some of those it was better than the previous day. Just take it easy. Occasionally symptoms come and go. The good thing is you can only get slapped cheek once and then you're immune. There are lots of good webpages describing it. I found the American website called arthritis dot org useful. It is called Fifth disease on there (that was its alternative name as it was considered the fifth viral disease of childhood) It is also known as Parvovirus B19. Hope you feel better soon.

TheMousePipes · 15/06/2024 13:29

I’m feeling a lot more mobile today, which is nice!

Polkadotshort · 15/06/2024 21:47

This joint pain and stiffness is something else! My knees, ankles, hands and wrists are swollen up! I’ve taken ibuprofen- it helps very little to alleviate the pain. The swelling is horrific.

goingtohellinahandcart · 15/06/2024 22:05

It could be slapped cheek, it can present differently in adults, first fluey symptoms then a rash and then aching and stiff joints particularly wrists, hands and ankles.

Dd2 had it at 14, she couldn't even turn the shower on as her wrists and hand were so painful

Polkadotshort · 15/06/2024 22:12

@goingtohellinahandcart Yes it’s definitely that as my joints are all swollen and stiff. It’s truly awful.
I’m struggling to walk down the stairs.
Can I ask how long the pain/stiffness lasted for her please?

Countrygirlxo · 15/06/2024 22:24

Could be slapped cheek. I had cold like symptoms and then came out in this rash, a few days later my fingers were so sore and stiff it was so painful, never had anything like it it felt like id developed arthritis overnight.

Countrygirlxo · 15/06/2024 22:26

Also my pain and stiffness lasted about 3 or 4 days.

sarahc336 · 15/06/2024 22:29

Looks like the rash you get with strep a or scarlet fever

Polkadotshort · 15/06/2024 22:32

@Countrygirlxo
Thanks. So far I’ve had this soreness and stiffness for 2 days , but it’s swelling too. In my ankles, wrists, knees and fingers - so painful 😓 I’ve taken ibuprofen but not really doing much.
Hopefully mine follows a similar timeline to yours. I’ve read some people have the arthritis symptoms for months!

Polkadotshort · 15/06/2024 22:33

@sarahc336 its definitely slapped cheek/parvovirus B19 , I can’t edit the original post but I’ve got pain, stiffness and swelling in my joints now which is a classic symptom of it in adults.
