I blame Sabrina for starting this trend.

Melissa Joan Hart
Sarah Michelle Gellar
Millie Bobby Brown

It's everywhere now.

Somehow still less annoying than fully grown adults going by "Hughie" or "Sunny" in their fifties.

"Its everywhere now"

Two actresses from the 90's and one current..... We are being over run by them!

sixtyandsomething · 12/06/2024 17:27

there has always been a few people who do this in my life. (I have never heard of any of the people on your list btw)

ChocoChocoLatte · 12/06/2024 17:30

My name is hyphenated, thanks to being born in the 70s (the height of the Walton's) but it's never just been the one name - always both.

Spirallingdownwards · 12/06/2024 17:53

Sometimes with actors though it is because there is already an actor registered at Equity or US equivalent with the same first name last name so they have to use their middle name too or change their name entirely.

Examples. There are tons.

Jamie Lee Curtis
Evan Rachel Wood
Mary Elizabeth Winstead
Haley Joel Osment
Jenna Louise Coleman

Exactly this.

I doubt their friends are using both names over coffee.

Floralnomad · 13/06/2024 13:27

I doubt in real life their friends call them by those names , for many celebs / actors the names are invented anyway .

Justme2023123 · 13/06/2024 13:28

Neil Patrick Harris 😁

sixtyandsomething · 13/06/2024 13:28

still havent heard of the people on your list.

BardsAreAssholes · 13/06/2024 13:31

Sarah Jane Smith 😉

This isn’t a new thing, OP.

CremeEggThief · 13/06/2024 13:31

YABU.
In Catholic countries it has always been quite common for two names to be used either with a hyphen or not.

aLFIESMA · 13/06/2024 13:33

Only times I've heard this IRL is when a child is being castigated. Or a very naughty dog who loves rolling in poo. Grin

Butchyrestingface · 13/06/2024 13:35

I was born in the late 70s and it was reasonably common at my (Catholic) primary and secondary schools. Ie:

  • Mary Frances
  • Mari Clare
  • Sarah Jane
  • John Paul

Definitely not a recent craze.

Picklewicklepickle · 13/06/2024 13:35

No different to John Paul or Sarah Jane surely? They’re pretty retro!

ImPunbelievable · 13/06/2024 16:50

Jamie Lee Curtis is two surnames not two first names - her mother's surname is Leigh but as with most others on your list, it's about branding. There was probably another Michelle Geller etc when they started out.

ImPunbelievable · 13/06/2024 16:51

Also Jenna Coleman doesn't go by Jenna Louise does she?

bluewaxcrayon · 13/06/2024 16:51

and what's the problem?

Pretend there's an hyphen and it's just one name if that helps you.

RightOnTheEdge · 13/06/2024 16:55

I've never heard of Jenna Coleman being called Jenna Louise.

Mairzydotes · 13/06/2024 16:56

I know of a few people you have names like Thingy Jane and use both

I thought Millie Bobby Brown just used the Millie bit because there are already several famous people called Bobby Brown .

Blibblab · 13/06/2024 16:58

sixtyandsomething · 13/06/2024 13:28

still havent heard of the people on your list.

What's the point in saying this?

QueenOfTheEntireFuckingUniverse · 13/06/2024 17:13

I've never heard Jenna Coleman referred to as Jenna Louise. Although Google says her name is Jenna-Louise.

ItsNotAShopItsAStore · 13/06/2024 17:19

I work with someone who’s decided she wants both first names used now. And they don’t go together at all! Think Andrea-Clarissa. And if you miss out Clarissa she gets pissy.

ItsNotAShopItsAStore · 13/06/2024 17:20

I think we need more double barrelled names that sound like singular names - like St John. Such a cool name!

MyKidsAreTooNoisy · 13/06/2024 17:24

Blibblab · 13/06/2024 16:58

What's the point in saying this?

To demonstrate an opinion that can safely be ignored??
