To take my ill child to Disneyland Paris?

To be clear - this is not something I did!!!

I guess it's more of a wwyd, but I couldn't find that topic for some reason.

So, this hypothetical version of me has booked Disneyland Paris with my husband and two children. Leaving on a Saturday.
On the Friday, school call - 'can you collect child1, they aren't well'. Child is collected, and vomits! Still, this version of me and the rest of my family leave the house late that night as planned, child being sick along the way. Child continues to be sick, even once we've arrived. Regardless of this, we all continue along our merry way around the park the next day, I'm even arrogant enough to announce on social media that I've dragged child 1 round the park with a 40.2 degree temp!

Is it just me, or is this version of me an absolutely selfish prick?
I mean, surely I've got insurance?! Yes, disappointing all round to delay, but how much fun could it actually have been - especially for the poorly child.
Strangely, no one commenting on the post mentioned above has queried traipsing around a busy park with said sick child.

Sorry, does one singular post about something constitute as navel-gazing now?

I think it is poor form to be honest. firstly being dragged around with a stomach bug must be horrendous for the child. and secondly the child will be infecting everybody along the way.
if it were me and there was more than 1 adult , one parent would take the well child with the other joining when the unwell child was well enough.

AngelDelightButNotStrawberry · 12/06/2024 14:34

I don’t think I understand the point….?

Singleandproud · 12/06/2024 14:34

I unintentionally did this traveled to London the day before to get the Eurostar, 4 year old DD threw up in the Premier Inn lift, I assumed it was the travelling and she seemed fine afterwards. Fine the day of travelling to Paris, then developed a horrible viral infection she wasn't vomiting but did have a temperature, we managed it as we would at home Calpol and 'Fever strips' for her forehead and we hired one of the giant Hertz buggies and when she was feeling well she went on rides and at other times would snooze in the buggy, she was very up and down but generally had a nice time.

Taking a child with an actual vomiting bug out and about is quite something else though

Suncreamfootball · 12/06/2024 14:36

I would judge the parent a lot- poor child being dragged around Disneyland whilst ill sounds awful. Plus putting others at risk of catching it. Very selfish

TheNoodlesIncident · 12/06/2024 14:37

I'm guessing someone you know has done this and posted on social media about their trip.

No way in hell would I drag an ill child who's vomiting on holiday, they'd be tucked up in bed. Disappointing that the trip will have to be postponed or written off, but the child who is ill won't enjoy it and will likely infect others to boot. Others in the family might be incubating the same bug, so everyone would be staying at home if this was our scenario.

I mean, nothing about it was hypothetical apart from the version of me that I was using for the purpose of making it an AIBU rather than 'was she being unreasonable' - I thought that was pretty clear.

You could say 'aibu to think he shouldn't have taken our ill daughter to Paris' as I guess that's what you mean?

MrsTerryPratchett · 12/06/2024 14:40

If best vague-booking this.

FunZebra · 12/06/2024 14:40

Norovirus is a constant risk at DLP. Whoever this person is is an absolute thundercunt.

FunZebra · 12/06/2024 14:41

There are terminally ill kids that go to Disney, FFS.

CheeriosOrFrosties · 12/06/2024 14:41

It’s scenarios like these that have made me lose faith in humanity.

Yeah but they're not contagious

@lateloverofcelery I did say 'this hypothetical version of me' right at the start of my post.
Apologies that you did not like the format in which I wrote, alternatives duly noted - I'll bear it in mind in future.

@Devilsmommy I think the poster meant that the children who are terminally ill could catch the bug, which would in turn make them very, very sick.

Are you being deliberately obtuse?

I said with a 40.2 degree temp, not in.
