How much would you pay for this bouquet?

I ordered a bouquet online to be sent to my DP's and my DM sent me a picture of them to say thank you.
I was extremely disappointed considering what I had spent and said so. Only then did my DM say that she hadn't thought they weren't all that thinking I had probably spent £x amount to which I then said I spent considerably more.
She did say that there was also a hydrangea head that didn't really go with the rest of the arrangement, so she put that elsewhere, and a ridiculous amount of foliage, some of which she used in another bunch of flowers she received and the rest ended up in the green bin as it was too much.
I'd really appreciate some thoughts from you lovely bunch (see what I did there! 😜) as to what you think I should have been charged for these flowers? 🙏🏻

I expect it would have looked really nice with all the extra foliage and the hydrangea…

CheshireDing · 12/06/2024 11:59

£70 !!!!

As there is so much space in the current arrangement I don't know why your mum removed so much! It would have looked better

that is still very very expensive for that I think

Flower prices shocked me at Christmas. DH gives a bouquet to his customers at Christmas, with some chocs.
The florist he's used for years charged him £32 for each bouquet in 2022. Last Christmas, she wanted £60 for each. He's buying 20 so that was an instant no.
I ended up buying 35 different bunches and some foliage and wrapping bouquets myself. Saved him hundreds. I'm guessing flower prices have shot up and shops had to increase prices to cover costs. Still, lost the order completely, and we will do it ourselves from now.

I would assume 'florists choice' means the same as restaurant specials: what they need rid of. If I chose to spend £70 on anything I'd want to know exactly what it was, if it was nice, if it's worth the money.

I would agree with that. The website was pretty rubbish tbf, it mainly seemed to show funeral flowers!!
I have had some pretty disastrous results with some other online flower deliveries over the past few years, and searched around quite a bit when I was looking for flowers for Mother's Day this year. The reviews for this florist were really very good (not just for the funeral flowers!), with lots of photos, and the bouquet that I collected then was really lovely, so thought I could trust them to make up something lovely for that money.

I started using local florist for delivery, after a couple of real shockers from the online national ones.
One particularly awful one was for a funeral, a collection raised £100, when we saw what was delivered, it was embarrassing, it looked like about £20 worth of flowers hastily arranged.

SwingTheMonkey · 12/06/2024 12:04

There are, or should be 11 flower stems in the bouquet. Average, let’s say £5 per stem. Plus foliage (leaves aren’t free…) plus the florist’s time, running costs etc.

Seems reasonable for what you’ve got there.

The vase was my DM's own and agree probably not the best flower arranger! There was no picture on the website, just said florist's choice and then could choose how much to spend.
I used them for Mother's Day and it was a really beautiful bouquet. Don't know if it made a difference that I was collecting it myself 🤔

I think the difference was that she chucked half of it in the green bin!

buidhebeltainn · 12/06/2024 12:06

I think that there seemed "too much foliage" because the roses aren't fully opened, but once the roses are opened it will look like "too little foliage."

mondaytosunday · 12/06/2024 12:08

£40. She's not very good a flower arranging though is she?

Oh just saw how much you paid. Rip off.
My FIL told me last time I sent flowers to not use the same people in the future (I used to send them a Christmas bouquet). Damning.

Luxell934 · 12/06/2024 12:11

I wouldn’t be surprised if they were around £50, as they do like to charge a lot for flower delivery service and they are usually underwhelming and not as good as the picture.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 12/06/2024 12:13

£35 - £40?

Don't think I'll be showing her this thread! Tbf she's also not a very good photographer!! 🤣

'Filler' foliage isn't cheap, and often lasts a few weeks longer than the flowers - when the feature flowers die off in a bouquet, I pull them out and replace with basic supermarket roses/tulips/freesias, and the arrangement's good for at least another week.

TillyMills · 12/06/2024 13:22

£60+

theferry · 12/06/2024 13:29

I paid £35 for something better than that from Next recently. Only annoyance was that the delivery company just dumped them outside the front door when nobody answered.

muddyford · 12/06/2024 13:40

I have used Scilly Flowers and Cornish Blooms successfully. Other friends have said M&S are good. I have also rung a florist local to the recipient and come to an arrangement with them (forgive the pun!).

EatCrow · 12/06/2024 13:43

Disappointedflowers · 12/06/2024 11:53

What she threw out was a whole bunch of leaves. I don't think charging £20 extra for filler foliage is really on!

I’ve always found they do this, such a rip off. There’s never any perfume either.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 12/06/2024 13:48

Unfortunately that's a recipe for disappointment; it can work with a really reputable florist, but too often it means shoving in whatever rubbish they can get away with

To my mind the content you described should have been £40 at the very most, so at a ridiculous £70 plus delivery I'd be leaving an honest and factual review

Bonbon21 · 12/06/2024 13:54

I paid £30 for this from a small local florist, collected from her shop, amazing perfume.

Springwatch123 · 12/06/2024 13:54

On the basis that some of the display was chucked away, I’d say £40-50.

Magnastorm · 12/06/2024 13:57

The flowers have been really badly presented in the vase and half of it chucked out.

£70 I think is about right. Flowers are expensive and people do actually need to make a living.

ichundich · 12/06/2024 14:00

I just ordered a bunch from Fleurop for €54. Website vs. reality...! Never again.

Hard to say if this is good value if she has chucked the foliage and used some flowers in a different vase. I would say minimum of £45 plus £10 delivery but this is based on what is included in the photo only.
