To go back to hotel to apologise?

MelMar1 · 12/06/2024 01:33

I was at a friend’s engagement party recently , and I became suddenly very unwell. We were in a karaoke room belonging to a hotel we were staying at. I was dizzy and suddenly extremely nauseous and I vomited profusely on the floor as I tried to get out of the room to the bathroom. So embarrassing but I literally could not hold it it was no warning! Then in the hotel lobby when I was sitting down afterwards and a manager came over to me. I again stood up to go the bathroom as it was coming on me again and he grabbed a bin and held it in front of me when I again was violently sick. Into the bin he was holding!! I feel awful about it. Should I go back in to apologise? Bring a gift? Help! What do I need to do to fix the inconvenience I gave the staff.

Theyll have seen much worse in the hospitality business. But totally not unreasonable to bring them something if you want to apologise. I dont think you need to.

LaMarschallin · 12/06/2024 06:46

You don't need to but it's enormously to your credit that you're considering it.
I'm sure they'd be absolutely delighted if you did do this as it happens so rarely.

C1N1C · 12/06/2024 06:52

Maybe call up and find out who was the cleaner for that day and ask if you can send them something?

HappyMum123456 · 12/06/2024 07:25

Something similar happened to my niece and I went back afterwards with a box of chocolates. Small venue so I was actually able to hand them over to the person who’d cleaned up. She was delighted with the gesture but said she’s seen a lot worse and it’s all part of her job. Definitely no harm in taking something along.

Badassnameforadojo · 12/06/2024 07:30

Are you OK? This was what happened to my mum and it got progressively worse until she was diagnosed with meniere’s.
Do you get dizzy and unwell a lot?

YouCouldChokeADozenDonkeysOnThat · 12/06/2024 07:35

I think it's a nice gesture op, give it a few days then do it.

I assume drink was involved? No judgement here! But if so then I'd say they would appreciate the gesture all the more. I hope.you feel better now. x

NoraLuka · 12/06/2024 07:48

That would be a lovely thing to do, particularly as most people wouldn’t bother. I don’t think it matters that much what you bring them (chocolates or something) it’s the gesture that counts.

ExpressCheckout · 12/06/2024 08:04

Yes, you don't need to apologize as such, but a card and a sharable gift (e.g. sweets, biscuits, fruit bowl) to say "thank you for looking after me when I was ill" would be a lovely thing to do!

GreyGooseFeather · 12/06/2024 08:06

It’s absolutely not necessary but I think we all love to know that we have made a difference to someone. So I agree with @ExpressCheckout’s suggestion of taking a card and a shareable gift. It just shows that their efforts were appreciated, and we all like to know that!

TwasEverSo · 12/06/2024 08:41

Did they charge you or the host anything extra?
I'd go back and apologise. Did the vomit on the floor just get left for a cleaner to clean up. If so maybe you could leave a gift (gift card maybe) for them.

My cleaned for a bit in a restaurant and had to clean up vomit. It's really disgusting.

countrysidelife2024 · 12/06/2024 09:24

my step dad works for a hotel as security and was once brought a gift from a lady that had caused a bit of a scene. He was so happy when he got home as that had been a hard night for him hahaha

CatamaranViper · 12/06/2024 09:32

Honestly that is so, so kind of you. The amount of shit hospitality workers have to put up with is unreal. I left after 10+ years.
Once I had a customer turn up with flowers after one of their party guests knocked me down the stairs.

If you do, the staff will be so grateful and they'll remember you for that.

Whatevershallidowithmylife · 12/06/2024 09:35

What a lovely kind thing to do!

BettyBardMacDonald · 12/06/2024 09:44

Yes, you should.

Beautiful3 · 12/06/2024 09:53

It would be so nice if you brought in big boxes of donuts. It would make their day.

LakeTiticaca · 12/06/2024 10:19

Yes it's a good idea. Sometimes it's nice for underappreciated people to be appreciated!!

Frasers · 12/06/2024 10:23

I’d leave it, were you drunk or was there something more behind it?

Trinity65 · 12/06/2024 11:54

Awww that would be much appreciated, I am sure OP and what a kind thought from You.

Re the sudden vomiting . I have that lately, but without the dizzy spells you suffer
Have you been to the Doctors?

Do you get dizzy and unwell a lot?

Surely the implication here is that the OP was plastered, not that she has a serious health condition?!

Atethehalloweenchocs · 15/06/2024 19:46

How lovely to consider doing this. You will make their day!

jwilson22 · 15/06/2024 19:57

Yes take them something (or order something online) make sure it’s shareable, marksies do gift boxes of the Colin the caterpillar, something simple like that

Tigger72 · 15/06/2024 20:23

I don’t think it’s a necessity but I would imagine the staff, especially the cleaner, would really appreciate a small gesture of thanks so go for it. Hope you’re feeling better now.

noctilucentcloud · 15/06/2024 20:39

I've been in a similar situation and took them a small card and box of chocolates. I think a thank you can mean an awful lot to people sometimes.

Meganmeccano · 15/06/2024 20:42

I would phone or e-mail your thanks / apology or go in and say it in person if it's not too far away.
