GE Poll: Why are you voting Labour?

GiantTagliatelle · 11/06/2024 22:49

First of all, I know there’s a GE topic but I can’t put a poll in there (can I??) so I’ve made it clear in the title that this is about the election in case people don’t want to read it. MN - pls feel free to do your thing as you see fit.

Inspired by another thread.. if you are planning to vote Labour, do you really want KS as a PM AND believe in Labour policies, or do you just want the conservatives out?

YABU - I really believe in KS, Labour and their policies

YANBU - I’m primarily voting for Labour because I don’t want a Conservative govt

I just want the conservatives out.

PasstheMaple · 11/06/2024 23:02

Why are you doing this poll?

I both believe in the Labour Party, and I want the tories out.

CaptainOliviaBenson · 11/06/2024 23:04

Both! I believe in the majority of Labour's policies, with the exception of their stance on women, and I also want the Tories out.

TurtleMoon · 11/06/2024 23:06

I want the Tories out, my seat is a Con/ Lab marginal, the incumbent Labour MP seems very decent and I agree with his views and priorities. Not sure about Starmer but anything has to be better than this utter clusterfuck of a government.

Allofaflutter · 11/06/2024 23:07

Both .

stripycats · 11/06/2024 23:14

I always vote Labour, I really like KS and I desperately want the Tories out!

DelythBeautyQueen · 11/06/2024 23:38

Neither. I wouldn't vote for Labour in a fit.

specialsauce · 11/06/2024 23:52

I'd quite like my son to still have teeth when he's 30

GiantTagliatelle · 12/06/2024 06:02

Interesting that so far there’s a marginal majority of people for whom getting conservatives out is more of a priority than Labour policies.

I won’t be voting for another conservative govt but I do worry that the idea of voting against something / someone rather than voting for something/someone doesn’t tend to end well.

The lesser of two evils.
There are a few reasons, but the main one that made me say FUCK NO it Rwanda.
That's not to say I think Labour are great, they really aren't and I think Kier Starmer is a smarmy prick.

dottiedodah · 12/06/2024 06:12

Worried about the NHS and Dentistry for children. My own Dad was religious about looking after teeth No crunches allowed and made to clean teeth after eating rock! Maybe he had a vision of the future! At a dental appointment. Some young girls were waiting for their friend she was having 6 teeth.out! Dad was born in 1915 older dad.and dental care was non existent then fo ordinary people. Only way forward now

Surely every vote is a vote against something? I don’t care why people vote, as long as they do.

Also voting Labour because the country cannot take another 5 years of these outrageous cunts.

PermanentTemporary · 12/06/2024 06:18

I'm voting for a Labour government and to get this government out, but I'm voting tactically Lib Dem.

I can't think of anything that would make me vote Conservative anyway, but it feels urgent to see the back of this rancid bunch.

I don’t think every vote is a vote against something. I think you can (and personally I always try to) positively vote for something you believe in, or you can deliberately vote in such a way that it will overturn someone / something you disagree with, to varying extents regardless of what you’re replacing it with. The classic protest vote.

I’m not voting for them.
they are making promises but not delivering any detail in how things will improve or how money will be raised. It’s all smoke and mirrors…no thank you!
Better the devil you know…

Yes this is all the Tories have left now.

After 14 years of worsening public services, all Tories can offer is "stick with us, because Labour will be worse"

The Tories have a black hole of almost £40billion in their manifesto! so tac cuts WILL be paid for with more cuts in public services.

For everyone else, maybe wait for the Labour manifesto launch tomorrow for more detail.

iloveeverykindofcat · 12/06/2024 06:33

A bit of both really.

Nonspecificcheese · 12/06/2024 06:37

Both.

I like Kier Starmer, he’s a serious, substantial person, and, in my view, seems to genuinely want to improve things. I also like the policies they’ve announced so far and I’m a Labour voter generally.

And I want the Conservatives out by any means necessary.

SnapdragonToadflax · 12/06/2024 06:39

Tactical voting is the reality of FPTP. People can use their vote however they choose - if that's to be pragmatic and vote for the general direction of the government rather than the exact party they prefer, it's up to them. For the left-leaning there are more options so there's always a risk of splitting the vote.

Personally I'm voting Lib Dem tactically to get the Tories out, but I really want Labour to win the election and I think Keir Starmer will be a good PM. He seems intelligent, sensible and experienced.

But you're not really voting against something - voting for Labour, although with little enthusiasm as I am, is voting for a Labour government as it's preferable to a Tory one.

So it will end well, as the Tories will be gone - forever by the looks of it!

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 12/06/2024 07:00

Really like Keir - he seems decent and honest (maybe too honest for politics), intelligent- a breath of fresh air!

Chemenger · 12/06/2024 07:04

I like Starmer’s approach and I want rid of the tories and the SNP. I wouldn’t trust either a conservative or most SNP MPs (or MSPs) to tell me the time, they are such habitual liars.

knitnerd90 · 12/06/2024 07:06

I can't say I 100% agree with Starmer's policies, but they're closer to what I want than the Tories. And I certainly like him more than I liked Corbyn.

lavenderlou · 12/06/2024 07:08

I've voted both Labour and Lib Dem in the past. I am centre left in my views but have always like the Lib Dem's pro-European stance so have voted for them for most elections. Haven't voted Labour since 2001 as I didn't agree with Iraq war decisions at the time. I like Keir Starmer and think he would make a good PM.

Usually I vote knowing my vote males little difference as I live in a Tory stronghold. Labour actually have a slight chance of getting elected here this time so I'm going to vote for them. Feels like my vote might actually matter this time.
