GE Poll: Why are you voting Labour?

GiantTagliatelle · 11/06/2024 22:49

First of all, I know there’s a GE topic but I can’t put a poll in there (can I??) so I’ve made it clear in the title that this is about the election in case people don’t want to read it. MN - pls feel free to do your thing as you see fit.

Inspired by another thread.. if you are planning to vote Labour, do you really want KS as a PM AND believe in Labour policies, or do you just want the conservatives out?

YABU - I really believe in KS, Labour and their policies

YANBU - I’m primarily voting for Labour because I don’t want a Conservative govt

@lavenderlou we are in the same boat. I’ll be voting LD in a marginal constituency and think it could make a diff. I like the LD policies and ultimately I would be happy to seek them form a coalition in order that there was a chance that some of them may come to fruition. Unlikely but you never know.

I want them out.

I will vote lib dem tactically as labour usually comes in 3rd in my area, some way behind lib dem.

Tactical voting is a thing. I wish labour wouldn't put a candidate forward in my area to make a conservative loss more likely.

knitnerd90 · 12/06/2024 07:11

Last election was a bit of a mess -- voted Lib Dem because of Corbyn and the goings on in my constituency. This time, the Tory has stood down and I reckon Labour have the better chance.

(I actually live overseas, so I am talking about where I vote from!)

MyKidsAreTooNoisy · 12/06/2024 07:15

Voting for change and getting the Tories out is a perfectly valid reason in itself. I don’t have to even look at the Labour manifesto to know I would prefer them to be in power. So I can’t really claim to be positively voting for them.

HandsDown84 · 12/06/2024 07:18

I don't always vote Labour (never Tory though) but I am this time, tactically and because I can't stand my son growing up with this government and thinking it's normal.

"Choose lower immigration, lower taxes and protected pensions", so says the Conservative manifesto. In the state we are in, they're doubling down on things I don't give a shit about.

MinervaMcGonagallsCat · 12/06/2024 07:22

I'm a bit meh about KS but I'd far rather him PM and generally support Labours policies

Quite looking forward to a Labour govt

MinervaMcGonagallsCat · 12/06/2024 07:24

Also looking forward to the SNP getting a trouncing.

Footyfandango · 12/06/2024 08:00

I am voting tactically Lib Dem, as it is them or Tories where I live. I want a Labour government, though should it be needed would be happy with with a Lab/Lib coalition.
I hate what the Tories have done to people with disabilities and want them gone with a passion I have never felt before. This current lot are vile venal c*s

specialsauce · 12/06/2024 08:22

Sir Starmer has integrity.

DragonGypsyDoris · 12/06/2024 08:49

I would never vote for Labour/Starmer. He would make an incredibly poor PM.

Cadela · 12/06/2024 08:51

DragonGypsyDoris · 12/06/2024 08:49

I would never vote for Labour/Starmer. He would make an incredibly poor PM.

And what uneducated drivel have you been reading to come to that conclusion?

He’s going to be far better PM than that tiny evil man we’re currently stuck with.

Huifen · 12/06/2024 08:54

I believe in the majority of their policies, and I like my local candidate.

Gabbsters · 12/06/2024 08:55

I like what I know of their policies- looking forward to seeing the manifesto tomorrow. I like the fact they seem moderate and sensible after all these years chasing nonsense ideology from the Tories. Also my MP is the appalling Therese Coffey and Labour are best placed to get her out- I would probably vote tactical Lib Dem if they had a better chance than Labour.

CasperGutman · 12/06/2024 08:57

The poll presents a false dichotomy. In deciding how to cast my vote, I must select from the available options. I will be voting Labour because I believe in KS, Labour and their policies more than I believe in RS, the Conservatives and their policies, and as a consequence I want a Labour government and don’t want a Conservative one.

Spinet · 12/06/2024 09:01

Both! My local MP is a brilliant woman with principles and humanity. Kier Starmer lacks charisma but as my Grandma described her thoughts on meeting my Grandpa, to whom she was happily married for 60 years, "he seems steady; he'll do." Hu bloody rah for a steady man!!

BringMeSunshineAllDayLong · 12/06/2024 09:07

I much prefer Labours policies to the Tories. However, I don't love them and would add a whole lot more to get my perfect policy list
This would include:
Reinstating the £28 Billion green economy drive.
Aim to rejoin the single market.
Complete overhaul of social care by integrating with the community sector. Integrate with NHS
Set up immigration station in France
Increase aid spending
Re-nationalise water, rail, utilities.
Increase the tax brackets but increase the tax to the top 5%
Massively reduce the prison population (no jail time for anyone that would have got a 2 year sentence or less, decrimalise drugs).

I could go on and on

Churchview · 12/06/2024 09:32

Both reasons for me.

I remember how much better life and the country was when Labour were last in power and then I look around me now and despair of the state we've been reduced to after 14 years of Tory systematic destruction.

Labour's policies and ethos align most closely to mine.

"When you're not doing so well, vote for a better life for yourself. If you are doing quite nicely, vote for a better life for others." Irving Welsh.

FarmGirl78 · 12/06/2024 09:36

I know the majority of politicians are so far removed from the common man they struggle to understand everyday life, expenses and worries.....but Rishi and recent Tory leadership, deputies etc are now at "Let them eat cake" levels of ignorance. It's beyond a joke.

OldTinHat · 12/06/2024 09:38

Neither. I shan't be voting Labour or the Tories.

Thelnebriati · 12/06/2024 09:42

Me neither. I shan't be voting Labour or the Tories.
I've seen how self ID has worked out for women and safeguarding in other countries, and I'm disgusted with Labour for insisting we all have to accept it.

Oreosareawful · 12/06/2024 09:54

I want the conservatives out, but I won't be voting for labour.

5128gap · 12/06/2024 09:57

Its broadly the same thing. I hold left wing views so will always want a right wing government out and a more left wing government in. The fact that this particular right wing government have made a particularly poor job of executing their responsibilities makes me more enthusiastic to see the back of them, and my support for some of Labour's policies make me particularly keen to see then take over. But I'm a labour voter from values and ethics and individual leaders or policies will never sway me, provided the party doesn't stray too far from its core principles.

Thelnebriati · 12/06/2024 09:59

Churchview That was a year ago, they recently announces they would make getting a GRC easer (that gives people a new birth certificate and identity), and scrap the spousal exit clause from the Gender Recognition Act which allows the spouse to annul the marriage before their partner fully transitions.

sleekcat · 12/06/2024 10:00

Because I want the Tories out and because I like my current Labour MP
