To put a sign on my door telling delivery drivers not to leave parcels?

I keep having deliveries nicked and it's getting to the point I think companies won't believe me!

For context I live on a terraced avenue, quite busy, with an alley way next to my house.

I don't have a front garden. My front door is directly on the public pavement.

So many companies just leave my parcels at the front door and take a photo. And very often they get nicked.

Anyone walking passed just has to reach down for my parcel then turn directly into an enclosed passage so perfect for an opportunistic tea leaf.

I've put it on all my accounts not to do this but they never listen.

Should I make a big bloody sign saying leave with neighbours?

No as there's nowhere to put it, my door is on the pavement and I'm not allowed to obstruct the walkway in any way.

I will see about getting a doorbell, but if they don't bother knocking I'm not sure they would take the time to press a doorbell either, but I've read some have motion sensors so go off if someone is there? So that may be helpful .

I’m disabled and it really annoys me when they just leave them! I often have to get help to bring in big boxes, and it’s invariably larger things I get delivered as I can’t carry them out and about 🤦🏻. We have a ring doorbell and it alerts when someone is close - we’re off the street so not sure that is practical for you if you’re getting people walking past every day. If you are expecting a parcel though could be an option to turn on for the day?. I can speak through it too from my phone to tell driver to wait and help if it’s a big parcel. The best thing I did though was ‘make friends’ with the local delivery drivers/postman, and unless it’s holiday cover they now know I might need help/take a bit longer to get to the door. Now it’s just Amazon drivers -who change like the wind - that are prone to leaving them without knocking…

For a few £ you can get a stick on doorbell with two or three wireless chime units and (if you want) get yourself a little sign saying PLEASE RING AND WAIT however that might just attract pranksters. I have to run up from the office at the end of the garden to answer the door, usually you can get there before they've actually driven away.

I think YABU to order parcels when you're not going to be home when there is no where to leave them.
I've deliver for amazon and it costs the courier time and money to return undelivered parcels to the depot. I'm sure other companies are they same, so they will get left.
You need to find a solution. A secure parcel box, a neighbour or a pickup point/locker.

The OP is always home, but has health issues getting to the door quickly and the issue is couriers not knocking so she doesn't know they are there.

Is not the she's out!

I've been looking today to get a ring doorbell but am a bit reluctant as that would only work if they do press the doorbell, which they haven't been doing with the knocker.

I'm not sure it would be helpful as a motion sensor for deliveries as, like I've said, our door is on the pavement of a busy walkway so if it alerts when someone walks past the door it will be going off every 5 minutes (literally) so wouldn't really alert me to a delivery person being there.

I asked and landlord said no to a box being on the front of the house and no to one being on the floor (they would both obstruct the pavement) To be fair I knew he would as it would be really impractical!

Can you turn the motion sensor alert thing off on a ring doorbell?

As a parcel courier, I would say definitely put up a sign! If you have neighbours who can or will take parcels, there is often an option to add that to your order notes and we can see those notes when we deliver. You can also get signs that say you may take longer to answer the door/ask them to knock loudly if that's an issue. I personally try very hard to not leave parcels in stupid places but I know not everyone does, so a sign wouldn't hurt at all.

Yes you can turn off the alerts for motion sensor, or make them little beeps with a proper ring for the doorbell. You can also adjust the motion sensor area but ours doesn’t show the exact doormat area - maybe if you angled it a bit down? Some of them say they have “head to toe” angle of vision.

Yes, maybe a sign low down right where they put parcels?
