Who?

I'm seeing Mr Stein who is Kay and SPMR lawyer.

Are you seeing someone different?

No, I misheard while swigging water! Thanks for the clarification.

AutumnCrow · 20/06/2024 16:14

Lovely end - Sir Wyn says, 'thank you, Dr Linnell'.

So we have Sir Alan and Dr Linnell.

Next week we have Mr Jenkins.

Asking where the money came from for the JFSP to meet and get copies of bank statements.

Oh no, that's not Paula Vennells lawyer.

That's Mr Stein. He is Kay Linnels lawyer and other SMR

I think he was trying to show the lengths Kay went to to help the SPMR.
Some banks charge if you ask for historic bank statements and the SPMR were so in debt, they couldn't afford it.
Kay and her collegue paid for the bank statements, so SPMR could get their evidence together.

It was showing how not only did Kay do her work for free (or a very small fee) but she also used her own money to help.

PerkingFaintly · 20/06/2024 16:17

"Should I have been calling you Doctor?"

So we started the year with Dr Gareth Jenkins and Paula Vennells CBE.

And we're reaching the equinox with Mr Gareth Jenkins but Dr Kay Linnell, and Paula Vennells [blank] but Sir Alan Bates.

Magnificent!

Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.

minou123 · 20/06/2024 16:17

Oops, sorry cross post @AutumnCrow

AutumnCrow · 20/06/2024 16:19

And to think Justin Welby thought we should be looking at Bishop Paula.

I doubt she could win a game of chess without cheating.

minou123 · 20/06/2024 16:38

George Thomson from the National Federation of Subpostmasters tomorrow.

This will be another interesting day. Sir Alan and SPMR have been very critical of him.

  • why did he and the federation believe POL instead of their own members?
  • why did they throw out SPMR who brought up Horizon problems?
  • why did he write that horrible email?
  • will he tale any responsibility or will he blame POL for lying to him?
Peregrina · 20/06/2024 16:42

I wound it back to see what I missed but then speeded up the sound. Dr Linnell sounds very very fierce at 1.75 speed.

PerkingFaintly · 20/06/2024 16:43

Not equinox, solstice!

Apologies.

Latest Nick Wallis blog about Graham Ward's recall to the inquiry this morning. Back in February Ward testified that he had not altered or deleted anything from the witness statements he had (cough) "reviewed". But since February the POI team have obtained the original word document (presumably in that dump of 75,000 documents that the PO suddenly "found" to swamp the inquiry team). ... and it turns out that he did exactly that - interfered with and altered an expert witness statement in a criminal trial.

Perverting the course of justice?

Graham Ward: a man in trouble

Graham Ward giving evidence remotely to the Post Office Inquiry today Graham Ward was the Post Office investigator who helped put former Subpostmaster Noel Thomas away. Whether he did so by pervert…

I am greatly enjoying the little ways that the witnesses, lawyers and now even Sir Wyn are sneaking in tributes to some of the heroes of this. "Dr Linnell" added to the list.

Some of you may enjoy the fact that people are creating some home made merch. It was in Nick Wallis' newsletter but not his blog sadly. I'll see if I can add screenshot

Oh those are brilliant!

chat away and fill the thread and perhaps we can have new thread for Mr Gareth Jenkins on Tuesday?

grumpygrape · 20/06/2024 21:30

For me, Dr Kay's comment on PO changing the 'rules'. 'You don't get people on board to take them to Clacton and then take them to Scarborough' was comment of the day. 😊
At times I feel bad about treating this as entertainment but in reality I am so pleased to see the bad people being exposed and the good guys being acknowledged. If only all the badness had never happened.

Harassedevictee · 20/06/2024 21:30

Absolutely brilliant. I do admire some people’s creativity.

Another day, another witness. Time to wake up and crank up the old laptop for viewing.

Today we are due to have George Thomson, the General Secretary of the National Federation of Subpostmasters (the NFS).

I suspect some questions may explore if the NFS was of any real use to the SPMs, or too busy engaged in either pissing wars with the CWU and elements within the Post Office, or conversely being too cosy with certain players.

minou123 · 21/06/2024 07:25

Do you think it'll be more willy-waggling at the Post Office?

My H worked in the post office in Ireland, and he had no faith in his union at all. It's interesting, roughly same time period. Unions not coming out of this very well.

And just to add more context, my dad also worked for them. H was a sorter, Dad was management. At one stage he was part of the 'audit' section. The workers despised the auditors, and from what I knew of dad's work, rightly so. It's obvs all anecdotal stuff but it's food for thought for me tbh.

Peregrina · 21/06/2024 08:48

One question which has been puzzling me and I don't know if it's been asked. Who were the people responsible when the first post Horizon prosecution craze started? That started under Royal Mail before Paula Vennell's time - who IMO was a person completely out of her depth but mainly guilty of the coverup.

Quebeccles · 21/06/2024 08:59

Morning all - can anyone assist with my understanding (in the words of Mr Beer) of catching up with yesterday’s evidence? I can’t find Kay Linnell on there, which is a blow as I particularly wanted to see what she had to say. I suppose it’s possible they have to edit it, given I believe there was a break in transmission…
