To really dislike Kerry Katona and her useless parenting skills?

LolaTheShowgirl · 07/04/2008 16:16

I used to feel sorry for Kerry and all the bad things I read in the press as we all know that what the papers say can be a load of old rubbish but on a number of occasions I've been unfortunate to catch the MTV show which basically follows her in her daily life at home (very exciting, I know) and I've grown to really dislike her.

First thing is she had this huge bump (carrying her latest baby) and had a cigarette in her mouth. Fair enough, it's up to her if she puts her own health at risk, but her baby's life too? That is bloody irresponsible and selfish!

I don't know where her 2 eldest kids are, as they are never on the program (maybe ex has custody of them?) but that little baby, Heidi, never seems to see her parents. She is always dumped with the nannny! I know this program is a tiny snippet of their lives but really, Heidi is NEVER around Kerry or the babies dad/Kerry's husband...think he's called Mark?

both kk and kp have well-oiled pr machines behaind them ensuring every money making opportunity is exploited to the max. For kk it seems bad publicity is better than none at all.

IMO the difference seems to be that kp is bright and kk isn't. Kp seems incontrol kk doesn't. And kk comes accross as a typical "care kid" (I'm not being flippant here it's a way of summmising how children who've been in care often present in terms of their style of managing attachments, relationships and life in general). She's also self-reportedly suffering from bi-polar disorder. Although there's a lot of evidence to suggest she's volatile from the self she presents to the World she comes accross more as someone who has borderline personality disorder. The way she is so intense of being married, having kids, chaotic and self-harming behaviour are very sad and very typical for someone with a background like Kerrys.

As for AIBU, no you're not, individuals with probs like kks are hard to like and difficult to empathise with, but hers a a very sad story and I don't think all the money in the World makes up for that.

DirtySexyMummy · 08/04/2008 22:36

Sorry - do you know her? Have you met her?

What the hell makes you think she has 'useless parenting skills'? Because you think you know what she is like from watching an edited TV show?

Get over yourself.

AitchTwoOh · 08/04/2008 22:36

yes, peacelily, but the thing is that given her background there's every chance that she would have been the same person but poor, and which would she prefer?

R2G · 08/04/2008 23:33

I worked with KK during my hols from uni at call centre. We started same week. Not seen her for years obviously it was pre Atomic Kitten but she was bright, a lovely girl, centre of attention and she had us all in stitches. She was also very compassionate and very open about her upbringing and so on. One thing I remember her saying was when you say youve come out of care everyone assumes it was because you were a naughty kid. She had to go into hiding because of a violent step father and loads. Also witnessed her getting very upset about something to do with her mum. I think you are being really unfair. I dont know her at all but on top of what she had dealt with up to that point she now has a divorce, didnt he sleep with one of the strippers on his stag do, and the realisation that all her friends and her mum have sold stories about her. She has been betrayed and sold down the river by everyone close to her.
Plus she's been diagnosed by bi-polar has she?
I know she left Atomic Kitten to concentrate on her pregnancy. She was a young mum and had a fabulous wedding blessed by the pope (according to OK so must be true) and reunited with her mother...now look.
YABU she should stop smoking but wouldnt you be living on your nerves? What other evidence do you have she is a bad mother? She probably isnt 100% but she isn't scum like you are making out. PS I think she is only 27 or something and has achieved everything by herself. I think she has her good points as well.
Aaah, rant over

Enid · 09/04/2008 11:15

thats a nice post rg2

Enid · 09/04/2008 11:16

god its such a myth that KP is in control of her life

AitchTwoOh · 09/04/2008 11:24

yes it was a nice post definitely, but she left AK because their label had told them they were getting dropped and K wanted to pick up presenting work and keep her image untarnished. it was just her bad luck that the last single was a massive hit, she was gutted.
she does seem like a nice lass, in terms of what i saw on IACGMOOH, but this whole idea that 'the media' is exploiting these people is so bogus. anyone who buys the mag or watches the tv (even with an arched eyebrow) is utterly complicit, as is the person themselves. she could completely retire from public life, but she has a living to earn. that's a symbiotic relationship.

Quattrocento · 09/04/2008 11:27

I don't know who Kerry Catona is. Nor do I know or care what her parenting skills are like. My pet hate is splitting infinitives.

Greensleeves · 09/04/2008 11:27

LOL at "kp is bright"

I think you are confusing "bright" with "brassy"

there are things lying on their backs at the bottom of ponds with more intellectual agility than her

MsSparkle · 09/04/2008 11:40

I am not a fan of KK and i hate the smoking whilst she is pregnant. My friend smoked heavily throughout her pregnancy and then had the nerve to lecture me on bf and said to me "how could you put your baby's health at risk by ff"

I do often wonder if those who are so dead against ff smoked though their pregnancy and smoke around their young children?

Anyway, i haven't seen the KK show but she bugs me alot and the drinking and drug taking makes me

chrissnow · 09/04/2008 11:55

I know of someone who smoked when she was pg, then quit when she started bf. At least she did 2/3 right!?

MsSparkle · 09/04/2008 12:32

I was merely pointing out that smoking in your pregnancy and smoking around your baby does a serious amount more harm than ff ever could.

Smoking while pregnant;
*More likely than other babies to be abnormal in some way
*More likely to have an unhealthy placenta
*Twice as likely to be born prematurely
*Three times more likely to be underweight at birth (even if he is born on time)
*More likely than other babies to die suddenly in the first year of his life (a cot death)

Each time you smoke a cigarette you breathe in a gas called carbon monoxide. This gas interferes with the transport of oxygen in your blood, and your baby?s supply of oxygen is reduced. Without a good supply of oxygen, your baby?s growth may be stunted.

The nicotine in cigarettes causes further harm. Nicotine narrows the blood vessels in the placenta, and this reduces still more the amount of oxygen and nutrients flowing to your baby. Nicotine also makes your baby?s heart beat faster. Recent research has shown that the nicotine from each cigarette you smoke passes to your baby and collects in the fluid in which he floats.

This website gives more info. Like i said to my friend, don't lecture me on the benefits of bf when you selfishly smoked throughout your pregnancy causing your unborn child to have potential health problem before it's even born.

I can't believe KK was mother of the year twice I'm sorry but i don't care what stress she is under, she shouldn't be smoking while pregnant especially as she is in the public eye. Half the mums in the country are stressed out over different things so it's a poor excuse imo.

rebelmum1 · 09/04/2008 12:53

I find these people awful. Some one gave me a copy of ok to read, and it covered her having a baby shower. They photographed her with last years BB contestants, how bad is that? What's going on with these people who watches them? Who's interested? Jordan is the same. It's baffling.

rebelmum1 · 09/04/2008 12:59

RTG fair enough but if you take money off people to film you and your children then you are open to critcism. If you are of a fragile disposition desperately seeking celebrity status isn't necessarily the wisest choice of career.

cheesesarnie · 09/04/2008 13:00

i just dont watchit then i dont get upset or have anything to dislike.

Dearie me.

rebelmum1 · 09/04/2008 13:10

Could be the fags that brought it on early ..

podglet · 09/04/2008 13:10

I too, am having my baby 3 weeks early, next week due to complications. Perhaps I should let the cameras in too???

mrsruffallo · 09/04/2008 13:10

Of course the media exploit people.
I don't think the people that buy the mags have as much responsility as the hacks do.

And anyway, thank God KK and KP aren't role models

onepieceoflollipop · 09/04/2008 13:10

"If you are of a fragile dispostion desperately seeking celebrity status isn't necessarily the wisest choice of career."

Perhaps it is partly due to her "fragile disposition" that she hasn't necessarily made wise choices either career wise or in other aspects of her life. Yes, she does have a diagnosis of bi-polar disorder, which from my perspective as a mental health professional is somewhat more than a fragile disposition.

I view her as a young and quite vulnerable woman, and I cannot judge her as I have no idea what it must be like to have experienced such a damaging upbringing and a diagnosis of a severe mental illness.

To turn it on its head some might say that she is actually doing incredibly well.

AitchTwoOh · 09/04/2008 13:26

the media wouldn't touch her with a bargepole is people weren't buying into her story, it's such a boring point on a thread that is actually discussing the woman to blame the 'hacks'. oh yeah, no interest in her at all, the media should deffo stay away... quite apart from the fact that her PR persn is Max Clifford and she (rightly or wrongly from a MH pov) wants the publicity.

ExtraFancy · 09/04/2008 13:41

She's at the same hospital I had my DS at last August. I wonder if she'll have my midwife too

AitchTwoOh · 09/04/2008 13:49

yep, extrafancy, and how does the media know that? because they got a call from KK's publicist. nice that she's naming the baby Max after him, isn't it?
