I know I’m being unreasonable but it’s bloody annoying.

It's not 'me' as in 'you and me' though, it's 'mi' - it's shorter - it's just a different pronunciation of 'my' (or at least that's how I hear it where I'm from)

CeeceeBloomingdale · 06/06/2024 18:05

Don't come to Newcastle then.

Or Manchester. Or Liverpool. Or anywhere you'd consider "north", OP..

CleftChin · 06/06/2024 18:20

hence 'I'll do it miself' - it's myself, but pronounced differently

Cantrushart · 06/06/2024 18:03

Worse than myself?

Nothing is worse than than myself 😡

Soboredofdiettalk · 06/06/2024 18:04

Ma mammy, me da etc... not unusual where I grew up in Ireland. I actually think this is a dialect thing and not an error like "could of" or "I went pub last night"

Yup, dialect not error.

Also what @Cantrushart about DSC.

Cattery · 06/06/2024 18:23

Cockney “where’s me trainers?” Perfectly fine

NeverEnoughPants · 06/06/2024 18:26

What about 'ma' - as in 'Ah'm goin tae see ma wee maw'

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 06/06/2024 18:28

PrincessHoneysuckle · 06/06/2024 17:57

i say mi mum,mi dad,mi tea,mi coffee.
yorkshire people speak like this along with plenty of others Yabu

Yep. Pure Yorkshire.

Who cares who enunciates ‘my’ properly?

Shakespeare didn’t methinks😉

When @DistinguishedSocialCommentator agrees with you, you know you're on the wrong team.

I know. I’m horrified and retract my statement.

There are more annoying things than ‘me’ instead of ‘my’ to be fair

To be fair the thread was about this subject!!!

Ask you asked - its the ignorant clowns that don't pick their dog mess up and leave people/children to step into it and it even goes on on playing fields and parks

Calm down love

I'll try, babe!!

PeopleGetSoAngry · 06/06/2024 19:50

I know it's just regional dialect etc but I now live in an area of the country where its common to drop 'to' from a sentence eg "I'm going school" or "I'm going Tesco" It just sounds so wrong to me, but I know I'm an arse to care so I'll never talk about it beyond this anonymous forum!

But we need to differentiate here,

Lots of young people saying ‘going school’ or ‘going town’

But Yorks and Lancs remove the ‘o’ out of ‘to’

Im in Sheffield. ‘Gonnat school’ or ‘Gonnat park’ is normal. And kind of nice.

He's not a lass.

Caramellolly · 06/06/2024 20:31

It's very much a Scouse thing too, as is saying 'like' at the end of every sentence.

Seeing as DSC has graced us with his presence, I'll share a nugget of wisdom from my late best friend, whose first language wasn't English.

"Cunt off, you fuck"

CadyEastman · 06/06/2024 20:39

Definitely a thing that is regional to us. You'd hate them mostly saying brought instead of bought too.

It makes me cringe when I hear that rant!!!
