Ozempic getting popular?

Onand · 04/06/2024 23:03

2 separate friends told me today they are on Ozempic. 1 I can understand why because she has struggled with weight for a few years now and dieting doesn’t work for her but the other has gone from a 10 😑 to a 6 😐.

I know of others on it too but they’re wealthy clients o it’s not as surprising they’re on it. Is it actually being used more than I naively thought and not just for Hollywood types? I didn’t realise it was so easy to get. Is it safe?

Appreciate some people don’t want to read about medically assisted weight loss programmes - but it’s hardly fair to complain about them on a thread with Ozempic in the title? Personally I get rather fed up of all the ‘eat less, move more’ threads that disregard the fact many of us have underlying medical conditions, menopause, and have little time due to carer responsibilities to commit to an hour (plus travel time) a day at a gym.

Just skip the thread and start your own, please.

Are you in the UK? I've heard people recommend phentermine but can't find any UK stockists anywhere. Or do you get it from your GP?

Yes, I'm in the UK. I'm with Bodyline clinic. It can be prescribed in the UK but has to be by a specialist CQC registered clinic and I have to go every 4 weeks for a check up, weigh in and blood pressure checked.

Bodyline has helped over 100,000 people in the UK lose weight safely with clinically prescribed phentermine and diethylpropion for 17 years.

Wow I wasn’t expecting this many replies. It seems like it’s more widely used than I first thought. There are 2 people I know who have ‘interestingly’ lost weight since new year who I’m now convinced must be on it too - but they are very wealthy so it makes perfect sense now, £200 per month is literally nothing to them.

My DP struggles with his weight so this could potentially be something for him to consider, he has a sugar addiction and will often binge eat, do these drugs combat those problems? Also what happens once you come off the drug, is it a case of you revert back to old habits or is the brain re-wired (?) into good habits?

I’m a binge eater and sugar is definitely a problem for me especially with young kids and very poor sleep in the mix. I was literally eating four bars of chocolate for breakfast and then carrying on all day with crap. The jabs have definitely helped me. I look at chocolate now and it just doesn’t have the same hold over me. I can take it or leave it. Rubbish food doesn’t have the same appeal so I feel like I can make more healthy decisions about what I am going to eat.

@Lentilweaver @Beanieton @LaWench @tobee @Chickenuggetsticks @NeedANewOne25 @MrsPelligrinoPetrichor and everyone else who said there should be a separate board for weight loss injections.

This was requested a few days ago - add your agreement on here so that mumsnet know it is wanted.

Thanks, I have done this. Currently all the injectable threads come up on active, so hard to find threads just for menopausal weight or half a stone loss. At least for me.

Keto threads are in their own section though, I think?

I think it's a good idea to move all the Ozempic et al threads to their own dedicated section.

The phrase that springs to mind for these drugs is “if it seems too good to be true, it probably is”

I think the killer side effect is that if you stop taking it, you put the weight back on plus more.
There is a mechanism as to why that happens, and that for me is going to be the sting in the tail for these drugs.

This isn't always true. I have lost nearly 4 stone on ozempic and it's changed the way I view food. Haven't had an injection for over 3 months and have actually lost another 2Ibs. People do need to change their habits whilst using the drug but it's very much possible to keep the weight off if you do that.

CactusMactus · 05/06/2024 12:09

I waited in Boots yesterday for 20 mins and 2 people came in and collection private Wegovy prescriptions. I know this, because I am on it and recognised the box!

Great stuff.

One thing you can notice with anyone using ozempic is the ozempic face.
I was watching on YouTube about it.
Not a good look people look like they have a dead face.
If I'm to lose weight I will do it the hard way.

I think there's a lot of talk about this in the media but I don't think it's a "thing" for all users. The media just want to promote this so they can keep talking about it.

I find it annoying. I have lost over 2 stone by going low carb and intermittent fasting and get asked all the time if I'm on Ozempic!..

Nothing against Ozempic but there are other ways that work!

Research so far shows much lower rates of regaining weight than dieting without these drugs.

I started losing weight without anything- lost 2 stones. I then started on Mounjaro- I have a lot to lose and it’s hard to diet for such long periods without help. I’ve lost another 2 stone with Mounjaro and am now no longer obese.

Conclusions: One year after withdrawal of once-weekly subcutaneous semaglutide 2.4 mg and lifestyle intervention, participants regained two-thirds of their prior weight loss, with similar changes in cardiometabolic variables. Findings confirm the chronicity of obesity and suggest ongoing treatment is required to maintain improvements in weight and health.

As a type 2 diabetic with high blood pressure I’m managing it through changes in diet and more exercise. Slow progress so far but post half a stone in the last month

I’m considering one of the weight loss drugs over a blood pressure or diabetes medication - the weight loss will
help with overall health rather than specific medication - been obese for years now but now as a menopausal woman it’s getting harder to lose anything

thansk for this thread!

Menora · 05/06/2024 15:19

I don’t mind the threads as in they have the right to be there although they are overwhelming and it’s basically the main topic. I can see why it would be annoying and actually very influential, almost ALL posters who ask about other methods are told to consider WLD. Every thread. Even this one. I’ve used it but don’t now, my BMI was 38.

I also know people lying to get it as they are under BMI 30. I had a lot of side effects it was horrible tbh. I wouldn’t use it again but it did help me lose weight. I’ve lost more on my own it’s just taken longer

My main concern is lack of research before people take it and so much misinformation being peddled around. Then there are just thread after thread people asking why they haven’t lost very much, about the well known side effects and practically no one I’ve come across has also worked on any of the psychological reasons they were over eating. Yes yes. I know not everyone has psychological reasons for obesity before everyone comes at me with hormones and insulin resistance but it’s a HUGE overlooked factor and these drugs do not come with any support to address the underlying reasons for binge eating, stress eating, food addiction.

I got obese by eating too much, too many carbs, too much sugar and increasing my own oestrogen to insane levels, which made me physically unwell and ended up in my womb being removed. I did this to myself in part, I wasn’t originally like this. I was stressed and didn’t have a better coping mechanism. People should be getting therapy at the same time IMO

determinedtomakethiswork · 05/06/2024 09:18

Funny because that doesn't seem to match the science at all.

Well. It does. Most people in the studies had a regain and it’s too soon to really have a lot of data to show how significant this is. There were pockets of people who did not regain all of it and some were able to maintain for a while but I haven’t seen data for a large group over a long period of time that indicates this isn’t one of the downsides

Lower doses start at about £150, higher doses go up in price, highest dose is £280.

The highest is £239 with Bolt Pharmacy.

iloveeverykindofcat · 05/06/2024 15:28

I know two people on it, and its worked very well for them with minimal side effects. And good for them! People get very weird about anything they percieve as 'cheating' (cheating whom?) or an 'easy way out' when it comes to weight loss. Well, if it is an easier way out - good! If I have a problem and there's an easy way and a hard way to fix it, I know which I would choose. I'm underweight at the minute because I have ARFID and lose a lot of weight when I'm stressed, and my doctor prescribed something that is supposed to help my appetite so I guess I'm cheating too shrug.

It does seem very unfair that some people can buy it when they have less clinical need than those who can't get it prescribed, but isn't that the case for any drug?

Edit: well not any drug I guess, but a lot for sure.

PrimalLass · 05/06/2024 15:32

I've had pretty much no nausea.

Ihatepineappleonpizza · 05/06/2024 15:37

It’s fantastic. World like a charm. I’m losing weight and I’m glad that I no longer need to struggle.

I see this medication as revolutionary, just like antibiotics, antidepressants, etc.

And if anyone wants to try it, we’ll, here’s your link for 50% off 😁

A work colleague of mine has been on it for a year. She was morbidly obese. Now is a size 14. So much happier and healthier.

She said for her, it turned off the food noise/chatter in her head. She's says she's at peace now. Hardly has any appetite and no interest in unhealthy food. Sounds glorious!

I daresay people said pretty similar about penicillin when that came out.

I take it periodically, I am usually a size 6 but take it when I get to a size 8 to come back down.

I lost 3st through diet and exercise originally but it always creeps back on a bit. I could do it “The hard way” but why not do it this way, I can afford it and it takes all of the pain out of it. I lie to get it and use my old before pic if necessary to provide a photo.
