Is 15 st too heavy to come back from??

I am 32 and currently weigh 15 stone. 5’3. Had an accident and had to have surgery, sat around feeling sorry for myself and got depressed and the weight I’m at. I finally faced myself in the mirror and burst into tears. Am I being unreasonable that I’m too far gone to come back? I’d like to lose 6 stone and get back to 9 stone. Will I be left with terribly loose skin??

@BIWI you were so right about other people trying to sabotage others, when I told family and friends I’d basically be self isolating and only going out on the odd treat day I was told not possible. Unrealistic. But I’ve actually enjoyed my own mini lockdown! Locking the rubbish away. Every day is getting easier without my sugary treats

I was a size 20 in 2017 and now a size 6-8.

Just walk, drink some water and remember - we ADD to our diets, we don’t take away. We want more fruit and veg; a bit of cake does not make you a failure. I have never counted calories in my life and never had any interest in fad diets. Just make the best decisions you can, by the day.

I do have a teeny bit of loose skin on my tummy but that’s due to 3 pregnancies, not fat. As of a couple months ago, I started wearing crop tops again and I promise no one notices/cares.

@Dita73 wow what a difference between those two photos! You look great. Proves your skin will catch up with your new weight eventually! Thanks for sharing that it spurred me on. I’m covered in stretch marks from before I even gained any weight in puberty and I just think I’m going to make the best version of who I can be xx

To end up in a size 8 is a massive achievement! I’m really focusing on how nice clothes shopping will be in the future. It’s torture at the minute. I’m not going to buy any new clothes until I’ve shifted a few stone. I feel I do need to stick to calorie counting for now just to kick start me and check myself that I’m not accidentally having too much.

I lost 4.5 stone and have 0 loose skin. I'm hoping to lose another stone but its not happening!

So just get started and see how you go.

You can definitely do it. Loose skin is less likely to happen if you lose weight gradually but even if it does happen it can go. A few years ago I lost over 8 stone very quickly. The top picture is about 6 months after losing it. The second picture is after 2 years. It just snapped back. It took a while but it did happen. I had no strict exercise regime or anything like that (I’m too lazy!). I just kept the weight off and my body seemed to sort itself out. Just to add,I was 46 when I lost the weight. Best wishes to you

Those pictures are an eye opener! I wonder if it’s your genetics too as some people are left with so much overhanging skin.

Thank you! I feel more positive than I did a few weeks ago like this is achievable now! And I’m quite a cynical person so would have thought that was impossible. I haven’t really moved much, I’m simply too unfit. I’ve done a short twenty minute walk everyday - that’s how bad I’ve got. But I’ve completely cut sugar out of my diet. For me. More than food. Sugar was my issue. And I’m starting to say was. Not is. I’m talking four full fat cans of coke a day addiction. Every day that has gone by. I’ve not wanted it as much. Which then makes a healthier meal choice easier. I’ve never smoked but I equate it to giving up smoking. Feel like I’ve abused my body and got away with it up to now - no fillings in my teeth, no diabetes or cholesterol. I realised I had to change. Not should. You can too girl!

Sugar is my thing too unfortunately. I find it impossible to cut down, but I have successfully cut it out quite a few times.

Absolutely possible 😊 I lost weight through diet and joining some fitness groups, I did pole fit and summer class thing that was a free community thing once a week. I cut out most high saturated stuff. You've totally got this

Saying this with kindness, be VERY careful only having 1000 calories per day. That really isn't sustainable long-term and you may start suffering with burnout. I speak from experience!! Low calorie diets can also cause kidney damage. Really you should be looking at a minimum of 1200 - 1500 calories per day. That'll still get you a 2lb per week loss which is the healthy advised maximum.

Strength training is really good, HASfit on youtube is really good (I lost 5 stone using their workouts), using kettlebells and dumbbells, all for free at home. I did this alongside a 1200-1500/day calorie intake.

Good luck xx

There is also a really good free app called myfitness pal. It helps you work out a safe amount of calories plus helps keep track of them

CheeseyOnionPie · 25/06/2024 19:39

Nope. Not at all. It won’t be easy but you can get halfway there in about 4-5 months and the whole way there within a year. The time will go by anyway whether you’re trying to lose weight or not.

No all advice is welcome. It’s just with my height, 1600 calories is maintaining weight, from what I’ve calculated. I was even tempted to do the Michael Moseley fast 800 for a few months to get going. Long term I won’t be doing it. But if I can do two months. It’s hard to weigh up isn’t it what’s more harmful, the weight or going too far in a calorie deficit. I even considered the wegovy injections, if I start to feel it’s unmanageable I will increase my calories xx

Not at 32, you won't. I lost 10 stone between 36 and 40. Didn't have loose skin. Kept it off too. The trick is to avoid silly fad diets and anything that promises quick results. It's a change of habits, not a diet. You should also consult your GP to talk through your options. They have had great results with weight loss drugs. Try to combine with exercise. Good luck.

Just re-reading this thread for some inspiration. Wow ten stone and no loose skin is incredible. What help did you get from your gp?
