Is 15 st too heavy to come back from??

Wantachangefor2024 · 04/06/2024 17:21

I am 32 and currently weigh 15 stone. 5’3. Had an accident and had to have surgery, sat around feeling sorry for myself and got depressed and the weight I’m at. I finally faced myself in the mirror and burst into tears. Am I being unreasonable that I’m too far gone to come back? I’d like to lose 6 stone and get back to 9 stone. Will I be left with terribly loose skin??

That's awesome @Wantachangefor2024 Well done! What a fantastic start! Just think how much more will fall off you soon! 💪 I've got another stone to go. The last bit seems harder, takes longer to get off. Keep going girl, you've got this 🙌

Gemi33 · 24/06/2024 12:53

Hi OP

I am the same height as you and weigh only slightly less - I feel awful but struggling to motivate myself because I have failed so many times before, I really sympathise!

xx

One stone in three weeks is a huge achievement - well done 🙌. At week 4 def time for a reward. Easier now the sun is out and you don’t feel cheated when dinner is some sort of salad 👌

Idontjetwashthefucker · 24/06/2024 14:30

Well done on your loss, that's brilliant and even if it was all water weight (which it won't be), it's a bloody good kick start.

Onwards and downwards!

Hey guys just wondering how any of you also losing weight are getting on? Three weeks in and I’ve lost a stone. I know that it is mainly water weight, but it’s given me the buzz of this is achievable!

You’ve lost a stone in three weeks??? That’s incredible! Can you sum up in a sentence how you did it? I know it’s a cliche but did it boil down to ‘eat less and do more’?

Do you feel any different? Like, is there anything that is physically easier? Tying shoelaces, walking upstairs, something relatable like that?

What difference has it made to the fit of your clothes?

Are there any mental differences? Do you feel like you’ve got the momentum going and it’ll be easier now because you’ve already made the initial change so from now on it’s simply more of the same?

I’m so inspired by that much in a short time!

Also, what do you mean by water weight? Have you drunk less or more? Or is it simply what happens at the beginning of losing weight? I’ve heard the term before but I’ve never been quite sure what is meant by it.

Final edit - I’m 16 stone so I feel if I figure out your secret I can trail behind you, if you see what I mean.

Well done @Wantachangefor2024 , that's a great start!!

I'm 2 weeks in and have lost 4lbs, which I'm happy with. Will keep going as I really want to get healthy again!!

That's amazing. I don't think it's mainly water weight at all.

I'm the same weight, slightly taller and want to be the same weight you do. There's a group of us. Join us https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/weightlosss_chat/5070812-5-stone-to-lose-anyhow-that-works-for-you-thread-3?page=9&reply=136254331

2.5 years ago I was just over 15 stone. I'm taller than you though. I'm now 10 stone 5. This time I'm keeping it off too. I'm 62 and this is the smallest I've ever been. Hitting a normal BMI was immense for me. I've been doing WW, not for the first time. I feel great but I take one week at a time. And I don't let anyone derail me.

CertainAppealToIt · 24/06/2024 18:49

Absolutely amazing op, well done! Sure some of it will be water weight but nowhere near all of it. Such a great start.

I'm still the exact same weight as the last time I posted on 5/6. However I've been on holiday in the middle (and AI 😬) so I'm just glad I haven't gained tbh. Back on it for me now though.

Not at 32, you won't. I lost 10 stone between 36 and 40. Didn't have loose skin. Kept it off too. The trick is to avoid silly fad diets and anything that promises quick results. It's a change of habits, not a diet. You should also consult your GP to talk through your options. They have had great results with weight loss drugs. Try to combine with exercise. Good luck.

Just reading over this thread for inspiration to keep going and wow what an achievement. And vainly. I do care about loose skin so that’s great!

Nope. I'm 39. Lost 5st in just over a year. No loose skin. I've lost this amount before at 29, and again, no loose skin.
I've got 2 more st to go to a bmi of 25 and 9st 10 at 5ft 2.5.
My challenge is keeping it off! Last time I lost the weight, my ex left me after cheating (oh the irony that I was feeling the best I'd ever felt huh!). So I kept it off whilst single, but I met my now partner and we'll, he's a bloody feeder I swear. Anyway, this time my life is more stable so I'm hoping he will help me stay on the straight and narrow. Fingers crossed I can keep it off. I've made loads of little lifestyle changes that I hope will give me the ability to stay healthy.

I’ve learnt how to reply properly - my first thread. How are you getting on with the other few stone? Amazing to hear you lost such a lot and didn’t get loose skin. Its vain, but I don’t want to shift the weight and hate my skin after x

6 weeks ago I was 15st 5lb and this morning I weighed in at 14 St 4.5lb. I've cut back on junk food, eating low carb Mediterranean style meals and walking lots. Also started 30 day shred this week, doing 2 days then a rest day as my calf is a bit dodgy.

I didn't set out to lose 1st in 6 weeks I aimed for under 210lb. Then under 205. My current goal is under 14st by end of term in 4 weeks. Then under 13 and a half stone by end of summer. Taking it really slow and steady.

I'm 45 and perimenopausal by the way.

LuluBlakey1 · 04/06/2024 18:14

You can do it. Just make a start. I had to force myself to go to Slimming World- I thought I'd last a week. The first week I lost 5 1/2 lbs and all of a sudden a half a stone was on the horizon and I believed I could do it.

You can too. You'll feel so much more confident as well as more healthy. Bet you are back here in a month saying you have made a great start! I lost a stone the first month.

Edited

Lost a stone too this first month ☺️

Thats not just water loss, that's usually the first week - maybe two - you are officially losing fat :)

And yes it really is totally achievable

And the good news from me who has lost, is post post menopause so has lost a lot of skin elasticity - my saggy bits are toning up. Still a bit of a crinkly stomach but my upper arms have toned up and the only area sthat I really dont like is the area on the inside of the elbow

Congratulations @Wantachangefor2024 ! That's a great start!

I've actually just ticked into BMI being purely Overweight rather than Obese this morning! I know there are all sorts of issues with BMI, but it's great thinking I'm now just overweight and not obese :)

I’ve actually enjoyed having me time. Collagen powder in a tea with a book. Moisturising and body brushing instead of a quick ten minute shower. I feel it all must help just getting reacquainted with my body in a strange way!

A holiday is really tough, you’ve done well! I’ve told friends I’ll be missing in action this summer. I need this time to get me back and I cant socialise as I know I’ll fall off the wagon. I’ve done three weeks on 1000 calories so why im motivated I want to keep going x

Thank you! I feel more positive than I did a few weeks ago like this is achievable now! And I’m quite a cynical person so would have thought that was impossible. I haven’t really moved much, I’m simply too unfit. I’ve done a short twenty minute walk everyday - that’s how bad I’ve got. But I’ve completely cut sugar out of my diet. For me. More than food. Sugar was my issue. And I’m starting to say was. Not is. I’m talking four full fat cans of coke a day addiction. Every day that has gone by. I’ve not wanted it as much. Which then makes a healthier meal choice easier. I’ve never smoked but I equate it to giving up smoking. Feel like I’ve abused my body and got away with it up to now - no fillings in my teeth, no diabetes or cholesterol. I realised I had to change. Not should. You can too girl!

@CertainAppealToIt and I’ve enjoyed going to slimming world. I sound dim just can’t get my head fully around the “free” food bit as I’m really strict calorie counting

No, it's not too far. I went up to 16st and lost 4 st at Slimming World. It takes time. Be patient but have faith.

Wantachangefor2024 · 25/06/2024 18:03

@MrsSkylerWhite you telling me your stomach was like a drum after losing weight was the biggest boost to me thinking I can get my stomach back to how it used to look. Maybe not perfectly, but better than now. I’m a stone down in three weeks so I feel like I’m on the right path. I need to build my fitness up I think that will be harder than the eating side

Thank you I’ll take a look. Sugar was my main problem, I was like a crack addict for it. Its only after three weeks that its slowly bating down the craving for it

@Elphamouche I’d love to join forces. How are you getting along? I don’t even have the excuse of a baby though! Just sheer laziness and bad habits deeply engrained. It’s the undoing of the daily Starbucks and eating out. I had a migraine for the first five days my body was crying for sugar

OP posts:
Wantachangefor2024 · 25/06/2024 18:10

@murmuration you were so right about telling me I had to be in a positive mind. I got really down when I looked at myself. But since I’ve accepted I’ve done what I’ve done to my body. Now do something about it. I feel lighter just from that mindset!
