To expect not to tread in cat s#it

Anyone please got any ideas of how to stop cats s#itting all over my front garden/path?!
I’ve got a large plant pot with a bush in outside the door, and every morning the mud is flung out and they’ve s#it in it again! It stinks! This morning there’s s#it on my path so I’ve had to pick that up, it’s always in the grass so I have to pick it up before I can mow. Just absolutely disgusting!!
Ive tried coffee grounds in the pot, citrus scents, eucalyptus leaves….i don’t often catch them so can’t really spray with water and most of the cats round here just stare you out anyway!

You can use the word shit.
Would Jeyes fluid work?

ladygindiva · 03/06/2024 08:58

I always heard citrus peels and scents deter them

AutumnFroglets · 03/06/2024 08:58

Cats bury their poo. Foxes don't. You have a fox doing that which explains why the cat deterrents aren't working. Fox poo STINKS, just ask any dog owner.

trythisforsize · 03/06/2024 08:59

definitely foxes

VainAbigail · 03/06/2024 09:00

You’re allowed to say shit, op. No one will judge you.

BlastedPimples · 03/06/2024 09:00

Put foil in plant pot. They don't like it. It should discourage them.

Flickersy · 03/06/2024 09:00

Surely an easy answer is to cover the soil in the pot with e.g. a weed suppressant cloth / tarp / cover which is a) cheap and b) freely available.

No not always, cats that are used to using litter trays don’t always bury their poo. They do it in my garden just on top of the soil, I’ve seen them doing it.

Get the hottest chillies you can find. They need to be HOT! Mince up and add to 500ml of white vinegar. Strain out seeds. Spray this all around. Cats will not return!

Edited

Yeah I've also watched cats in my garden do their business and just walk off a few times! They definitely don't always bury it.

Growlybear83 · 03/06/2024 09:08

I agree with other posters - I've seen many cats who don't bury their poo. Climbing into a big pot is much more something a cat would do than a fox. Jeyes fluid can help, and citrus peel.

PostItInABook · 03/06/2024 09:08

Do not use jeyes fluid. It is poisonous to cats and other animals. Only someone completely ignorant to that OR an unhinged cat hating lunatic psychopath would suggest that.

Crumpleton · 03/06/2024 09:12

Not a pot but I used to place a couple of sprigs of Holly on a small patch of my garden where a local cat took to pooing on it.

It didn't take to kindly to getting a sharp prick up it's backside and stopped pretty quickly.

W0tnow · 03/06/2024 09:14

Cats most certainly do not always bury their poo! My neighbour’s cat used to poo on the footpath just outside my gate. I used to return it to their front doormat.

Slugsandsnailsresidehere · 03/06/2024 09:14

Cats usually bury their poo so there's some sort of territory war going on. Hot soapy water (use bio detergent) on the same spot will remove any lingering scent. We live near the zoo and my neighbour swears by lion poo on her flower bed (a much bigger cat so bigger threat to the trespassing cats). I think you can get it from Amazon too! 💩

This is what we put all over any paved areas and around boundaries to the house and garden. We also use the crystal repellant stuff and chopped onions as they hate the smell

Fleaspray · 03/06/2024 09:24

Cover the top of the pot with a thick layer of gravel or put chicken wire over it.

gettingolderbutcooler · 03/06/2024 09:31

Put netting over soil- they hate it!

RubySloth · 03/06/2024 09:32

Thorny branches in the pot.

Nope. Foxes definitely climb into planters too. They climb into my front window boxes, have caught them doing it on camera.

Davros · 03/06/2024 09:41

Crushed egg shells

JamSlagsNowPlease · 03/06/2024 12:04

You could stick wooden cocktail sticks into the soil so that the cat will not be able to find a comfortable spot.

Chely · 03/06/2024 12:07

We drink filter coffee, I save the ground coffee after in a pot and sprinkle over the front lawn regularly. Cat's no longer use it as a toilet, they started doing it on top of our ivy growing on the fence instead so started putting it on there too.

My cats do this so any pots have to be topped with chicken wire. Mind they do prefer to come indoors and use the litter tray.
They don't poo on the lawn or the patio but foxes do, so maybe it's both.
