More and more thread deletions.

Is it just me? There seems to be a growing willingness by Mumsnet HQ to delete threads when posters ask.

Myself and others have spent significant time today trying to help a poster get into a better position for her children and poof, it’s disappeared because the “OP felt it was too identifying”. Ironically we were needing more than the scant info posted to properly help.

Feels really disrespectful to other posters to just wipe out a thread like that, and I thought Mumsnet was pretty tough on when threads could and couldn’t be deleted.

It’s happening more and more.

This. I’ve seen posts removed for “being identifying” when the information was literally so generic it could have been anyone in the UK population. It’s clearly them being angry the thread didn’t go their way which is both petulant and stupid.

‘Not going their way’ = in reality, uncomfortable with others being rude and horrible

The what was the last thing you bought from Amazon thread was deleted for breaking talk guidelines anyone know why? 🤔

I, too, was surprised to see this deletion message.

I mean, how wrong can it go on an Amazon thread?!

CheeseWisely · 02/06/2024 19:57

Meanwhile I asked for a thread to be deleted last year as 2 people had recognised me in real life, and was told the following..

'We don't usually delete threads unless they break our Talk guideliness_, or pose a serious privacy concern. As Mumsnetters have spent time posting on the thread and sharing their views, they don't take kindly to seeing threads deleted, so we really only try to delete threads in exceptional circumstances'

What they conceded to do was move it to 30 days only, so it eventually disappeared 🤷🏻‍♀️

Hotnamehere · 02/06/2024 19:57

It was probably a PBP

These ones (and the "what's the view from your window" ones) are usually research or article fodder. Which aren't allowed.

Just because something isn't obviously offensive or fake doesn't mean it's not breaking talk guidelines.

I thought I must have missed something kicking off on a thread about Amazon orders... 😐

Ah that makes sense!

Why did the “What was the last thing you watched on YouTube thread” deleted? I was enjoying that one!

Research / article fodder. Not allowed.

They usually say that if it is.

Yes. That’s it. That’s what I understand their position to be.

I tend to post stuff that would help others, not just the OP.

Absolutely. I make less effort at the moment because if I post detailed advice for the OP and others, it could just disappear.

I've benefited so much from reading other posters' threads and the myriad responses, where many woman have taken the time and the trouble to comment.

LizzieBennett73 · 02/06/2024 20:07

Very few give out identifying information, it's more to do with the replies not sharing their opinion.

Not true always, but at times possible.
I posted about something re relatives. Then had second thoughts - possibly me being a bit paranoid. I asked MNHQ and they kindly removed the thread.

StormingNorman · 02/06/2024 20:56

It keeps happening. I must have been on 4 or 5 deleted threads over the past week. Annoying when I get an email and there’s nothing there!

caringcarer · 02/06/2024 21:07

There is one thread deleted asking how long would your current food stock last if all food shops shut tomorrow. I wouldn't have thought that could be very controversial.

fruitgummy · 02/06/2024 21:08

This reply has been deleted

This has been deleted by MNHQ for breaking our Talk Guidelines.

Nope. Thats does happen sometimes of course but more often it will be them asking AIBU, everyone saying yes you are and then them flouncing off never to return.

Toastjusttoast · 02/06/2024 22:07

I assume they get cold feet about putting their personal problem online, that seems pretty sensible to me! Delete away.

Oblomov24 · 02/06/2024 22:07

I feel this. It's becoming more common and it's incredibly disrespectful to us as posters who have put in a lot of effort.

Possible potential to cause panic buying??
However, there may have been arguments within the thread and many reports of disagreements, abuse, etc and IMO, its just easier to delete a thread like that

From the few sites I've posted on, this one seems to be managed well

From mememory, MNHS does put a reason on delete threads and that is helpful

fashionqueen0123 · 02/06/2024 22:21

It is irritating getting an email to say someone has replied to you and then you go to read it and it’s gone. Or the poster was in a tricky situation - they had when they posted! I also often come here from Google and past info can be helpful .
