Items stolen from me are now on Vinted. Can I find out who is selling them?

There is no way of contacting customer services... is there anything I can do I feel so angry about it.

You could use LinkedIn to try and contact Vinted staff members.

Doesn't this mean that Vinted is handling stolen goods though, which is also a offense?

GodspeedJune · 01/06/2024 19:42

Exactly this happened to me the other day! I sent a message to the seller telling them I had screenshots and had reported them to the police. To my amazement they took the items back to the shop they had taken them from - it was my order that was stolen.

SatsumaZoom · 01/06/2024 19:45

@GodspeedJune wow 😳 😮 I wonder if it is way more common than we realise!

Did you claim on your insurance? If so tell them the details.

I have gone back to the police but I don't think they have the time to deal with such a small crime. But I will keep trying! I just don't want them getting away with it! I want the police to take it seriously but I understand how busy they are :(

Meanwhile, is it worth buying them and waiting until they've sent them before reporting a problem- that they are your stolen items? Then wouldn't they have to return your payment..?

You may encounter issues if you can't prove that the items were yours, some items are unique by virtue of being the only one, or limited numbered editions - some carry serial numbers (for example cameras and high end watches).

But anything that is mass produced and not individually marked in some way is really difficult to prove ownership of.

We had a pile of garden machinery pinched from work, the police found similar items (well they were the same ones!!) in the possession of a local rogue, but as we didn't have any serial numbers etc. it couldn't be proved.

Just a thought, would the seller get tipped off by your username or delivery address when you buy them back, that it's you buying them back?
Just didn't want you to try for them to get tipped off and cancel the sale and then disappear!

The seller doesn't get paid until you confirm items received and all is OK. You have two days from receipt of items to do this. So even though you have paid, they won't have the money until you release it

Which means "oops I didn't receive anything" can come into its own.

How did you get on with this OP? I'm in a similar situation and wondering if it's worth me buying the item and then reporting the thieving seller.

Just realised this thread was June last year 🙈

SatsumaZoom · 16/06/2025 09:51

@MrsMrsD no worries i still spotted your reply. I finally got the police to be interested and they went around and searched the persons house. Turns out they were known to them. They also brought them in for questioning. Sadly because the items weren't on his property they could not hold him. He said to the police he was listing them for someone else. There was nothing that could be done and I never recovered the items.

Sorry :(
