Be as delighted as you want. He’s still going to be president again 😂

Nothing can be worse than doddery old fool Joe Biden. Doesn’t even know where he is half the time 🤔 Wouldn’t be surprised if he doesn’t even know who he is.

And this is exactly the reason people often think Trump supporters are toothless illiterates or bots.

Do you have something substantive to contribute?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 01/06/2024 13:55

If the election is very close, it's likely to be several days after the election before all the results are in as the counting of mail in ballots, which continues past election day, could change the outcome

Considering the controversies last time that's what some of us are concerned about

I honestly don't want to think what might be attempted if it really is that close, but however we cut it the situation's looking pretty toxic already

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 01/06/2024 13:56

My apologies if this has already been posted. Washington Post article saying Trump and the GOP are managing to turn this loss into a huge win. I truly fear for a world with Trump as the next President. I also cannot understand how voters in the US don't see how dangerous he is for democracy and for the future of their country. It's utterly demoralising.

Yes, it's very worrying, but from everything I'm reading, it looks, at least at this point, like while this might enflame his base, it's unlikely to expand it. I hope that's right!

Adding- Don't forget, a lot of the spineless GOP would probably really prefer to replace him with someone like Nikki Haley, but have boxed themselves into a corner where they have no chance without the 30% of the electorate that would flounce if they dared deselect the chosen orange one. They're stuck with him, so need to make the best of it.

@SerendipityJane "All countries have their blind spots. The UK is quite OK with people breeding and deploying killer dogs. It's our second amendment."

Well, not strictly true. After a public outcry it became illegal in 2023 to breed, sell, advertise, rehome, abandon or allow an American Bully XL type dog to stray.

With the precise effect of: fuck all.

There will still be dog attacks. People (statistically children) will still die.

Been that way since I can remember.

Thoughts and prayers though.

Nope. Happy to listen to/read opposing views as long as they're informed and substantive.

And if you read back over the thread, I think you'll find I've contributed quite a lot of material. You might not agree with it, but it's generally pretty high quality.

Bululu · 01/06/2024 14:32

@Wallaw The time to pull that trick has now long passed. Biden is on the way out. He has undelivered to the electorate. It is not only the MAGA types wanting him out. The OP is over the moon but some are laughing at her naivety. Does not it mean they are bots or wherever insults come handy.

I listened to the state of the union speech.

You obviously didn't.

You've obviously paid attention to every single piece of propaganda in the right wing media suggesting that Biden's moments of forgetfulness or confusion - which by the way Trump has also demonstrated REPEATEDLY - are evidence of a complete loss of capacity. Of course they aren't.

speyside · 01/06/2024 14:35

clearly anti trump and very biased different media reported differently on that event dependent on republican or democratic and what state it originated from

I repeat he never called to arms it was taken by the degenerates as they wished don't blame Trump for what they decided to do.

for all we know the election was rigged even by the democrats nothing in american politics would surprise me.

However, unless you are an american with a vote it's up to America to decide not the Europeans.

Personally, with no axe to grind, I wouldn't want Biden as my leader with all his skeletons in the cupboard hidden for the moment and he's clearly now an aged puppet.

'Biden has undelivered to the electorate'

By what metric?

Immigration? According to the CATO institute "In the two years before Mr. Biden took office, the Trump administration released nearly 713,000 immigrants, or a little over 52 percent of the 1.4 million crossers. In other words, Mr. Trump’s policies resulted in far fewer removals in absolute terms and a slightly higher percentage of released border crossers than Mr. Biden’s."

https://www.cato.org/commentary/biden-cant-stop-immigration-time-embrace-it

Suggest you read beyond whatever Trumpian propaganda you're filling your head with. Immigration is a hugely complex humanitarian problem and it's not just the US that's struggling with it.

What about the economy?

https://apnews.com/article/trump-economy-biden-election-president-e3a153c9b0c615ea6e0f2afb91cdc785

"But the economic numbers expose a far more complicated reality during Trump’s time in the White House. His tax cuts never delivered the promised growth. His budget deficits surged and then stayed relatively high under Biden. His tariffs and trade deals never brought back all of the lost factory jobs."

Every incumbent from across the political spectrum in elections across the world this year is facing challenges around standard of living falls caused by the inflation triggered by the opening up of economies after lockdown.

Healthcare?

Trump "supported failed Congressional proposals to repeal and replace the ACA with weakened protections for preexisting conditions, reduced premium assistance, elimination of the Medicaid expansion, and a cap on all federal funding for Medicaid. "

Biden "proposes to build on the ACA by increasing premium assistance and creating a Medicare-like public option plan, which would be available to anyone and automatically cover people with low incomes in states that have not expanded Medicaid. He would also lower the age of eligibility for Medicare to 60 years, and supports increased federal funding to states for Medicaid during the economic crisis."

'We all know the election was rigged'

Nope. It wasn't. We don't 'all know'. And it doesn't matter how often you repeat it - it's not true.

You live in a parallel universe of Trumpist propaganda. Every time you post something you make that more obvious.

It's absolutely terrifying.

Sunisshiningweatherissweet2 · 01/06/2024 14:53

I feel for the Jurors. When he gets back in, will they be safe?!

There seems to be some perverted parallel in America: the more crimes you commit, the 'greater' you become.

@speyside Would they have taken this award from the Niro in 2020? https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/other/robert-de-niro-denied-top-broadcast-award-following-his-anti-trump-speech-outside-court-report-says/ar-BB1nroWL

Celebrities otherwise have been quieter too compared to 2020.

It doesn’t seem Biden did not ‘deliver’. Here are some articles from Bloomberg and the BBC. I tried to get some more moderate sites than the Cato Institute.
https://www.bloomberg.com/graphics/2024-opinion-biden-accomplishment-data/

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-51682000

Donald Trump is a convicted felon. He engaged in inflammatory tweets before an insurrection where the Vice President could have been killed. He is the centre of a personality cult with Fox News and social media as his mouthpiece , and personality cults don’t end well. At this moment on Truth Social, his supporters are calling for the jurors in his case to be doxxed. He is supported by the Proud Boys, a neofascist organisation. He is supported by Nigel Farage. There is no evidence that the last presidential election was rigged. It has been investigated to death.

And, if you are curious, the apple does not fall far from the tree.
His father Fred’s real estate empire was based on tax dodges. Trump’s father, Fred Trump, was arrested twice: in 1927 during a Ku Klux Klan riot (he was at a KKK rally), and in 1976 over severe code violations at a building he owned in Maryland.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/history/2023/04/04/fred-trump-arrests/

People speak about Biden’s age. Trump is not exactly a spring chicken either.

Bloomberg - Are you a robot?

Biden is on the way out. He has undelivered to the electorate

Whether he is/has or not, it occurs to me that much of this could have been avoided if the Democrats had selected a broadly acceptable candidate instead of one who even many of their members won't consider - something I'd have thought they'd have learned after what happened with Hillary, but apparently not

With a Democratic candidate perceived to be half way decent it should have been easy to wipe the floor with Trump, but sadly that's not who they've picked and here we are

speyside · 01/06/2024 16:17

I did not say 'We all know the election was rigged' I said "For all we know" - its a saying !! dont misquote me. Read it correctly.

and also don't negate my opinions because they are different to yours !

It's offensive to say anyone is taken in by propaganda when you have no idea about the individual.

Freedom of speech is the message

Nanaof1 · 01/06/2024 17:20

izimbra · 01/06/2024 09:22

@Nanaof1

"Yet many liberals got their knickers in a twist when Glenn Beck, Ted Nugent, the lead singer of the group Creed and others made "threats" against Obama"

So just to be clear - are you condemning violent rhetoric being used by and against politicians or defending it?

Because Trump has used a fair amount of violent rhetoric in his speeches.

(just noticed I unintentionally quoted from a different post)

Edited

I condemn it from anyone. You don't have to like a candidate and heck, can even hate a candidate, but when you make threats, as has become commonplace over here, you need to be stopped before some nut job decides to get attention by fulfilling the threat.

Celebrities, politicians and entertainers need to be especially careful, as we have seen what happens when someone decides to grab the attention of a celebrity/star. They need to all STFU with the threats. Opinion, sure! Threats, no way!
