I know I'm not being unreasonable I just want traffic lol. I got home fro. The hospital after an operation which had gone wonderfully well. I felt cosy and warm and my husband tucked me in bed then ordered me fish and chips. I don't know if it was being sleepy post anaesthetic, feeling relaxed because the op was over, that I'd been fasting before the op ( although the nurse was so lovely and gave me loads and loads of biscuits and tea before I came home ) or that for once I knew I could justify eating a takeaway in bed which I'd usually never do and didn't have to move ( husband had also cleaned our flat we were in at the time and lit some candles etc ) but it was truly one of the best meals I've ever had. I wolfed it down. I remember finishing my chips and shutting my eyes with Sex In The City on and realising how simple life's pleasures are lol.

What's the best meal you've ever had?

A steak at Boath House, Auldearn near Nairn.

I don't eat much red meat, probably once a month, but this was the best thing I have ever tasted. I'd been walking in the highlands that day and was very hungry.

I've had ds since then, so I doubt I could afford it now. but a nice memory. 🙂

There’s a local burger place in my city and oh my god. I wouldn’t even consider myself a ‘burger’ person but I think of this place pretty much every day.

Chicken burger with a fresh brioche bun, the toppings are always just so fresh and finely chopped, triple cooked chips and you can add bacon and Parmesan, chicken wings, mac & cheese, IPA’s…. It tops every ‘fancy’ meal I’ve ever had.

My local restaurant... Lobster with Thermidor sauce, Parmesan fries and salad. 🦞

Tomato salad next to a French Chateau. Simple but perfect.

A Thai beef noodley thing from a country pub called the Akebar in North Yorkshire. This was at least 25 years ago and I haven't forgotten how bloody lovely it was. I've tried similar dishes in restaurants since and NONE have ever made me sigh with delight like that dish did.

afaloren · 29/05/2024 18:59

A fine dining restaurant in my city. Not Michelin starred yet but will be soon. I ate things on the tasting menu I would NEVER order and they were all spectacular.

Failing that, my grandad’s faggots and peas Grin

I got taken out to the Sir Charles Napier in Chinnor. I had fresh breads and wild garlic soup to start. It was astounding.

Two stand out for me.

Chicken in Port on a beach in Portugal 30 years ago.

Lebanese in Paddington, London near where I worked at the time. I remember going there with work colleagues and was dubious as it didn't look like much from the outside but the food was amazing!

Many, but a plateau de fruits de mer at a beachside restaurant in northern France.
Or a Michelin starred place in the Basque country, Spain, where everything was cooked over wood fires (but not barbecued.) An entire fresh cep mushroom, grilled, was one of the best things I've ever eaten. Also the steak, or beef chop, from an ex dairy cow about 12 years old that had been grazing on the hillsides. Amazing.

A selection of food grilled on an outdoor fire one cold November afternoon after getting accidentally locked out with no car between 9am and 7pm. Luckily an outhouse was open in which is a small fridge with spare foods. Langoustines, baked bread, tomatoes, bottles of wine from the outhouse and cold French cheeses and meats. Pretty sozzled but nice and warm cozied up to the fire watching birds flying above the valley.

Most delicious thing I've ever eaten was the cheese mousse at Monica Galetti's restaurant. Sadly she closed earlier this year so I probably won't have it ever again. But OMG it was just so so good.

Also, a smoked mashed potato I had about 13 or 14 years ago at a place in Norfolk. That's also closed now. It was absolutely amazing though. Completely delicious.

I've eaten some amazing things in great places but those two are the most memorable for taste. I'd have them again in a moment.

Alleycat1 · 01/07/2024 19:00

Prawn linguine in a champagne sauce at a restaurant in Dorset or Paella in La Paz, Bolivia. I can't choose between them.

WhoGivesaSpit · 01/07/2024 19:17

The raspberry souffle at Le Manoir (Raymond Blancs) restaurant is by a millions miles the best thing I have ever put in my mouth 😋

SlatternIsMyMiddleName · 01/07/2024 19:22

The entire meal I had at Le Manoir. It was the only time I have had that level of fine dining and my word was it fabulous.

shellyleppard · 01/07/2024 19:27

Lobster thermidor when I was 9 years old, my first lobster and my first flight..... the memories linger ❤️ went on a date to a posh restaurant in my old home town. The fish was absolutely divine and the cheesecake....omg it was huge!!! Couldn't finish it Lol had to leave half

Tlolljs · 01/07/2024 19:29

Liver and bacon in a pub near Hastings.

Idontjetwashthefucker · 01/07/2024 19:36

Steak at a fancy steakhouse in Brisbane, was the best beef I've ever tasted, cooked medium and melted in the mouth

MammaMiaPizzeria · 01/07/2024 19:39

Seared tuna at an incredibly posh restaurant in Paris 🤤🤤🤤 I don't even normally like fish !

Roundroundthegarden · 01/07/2024 19:58

My Indian mum's food. Literally anything she makes is the best thing I will ever eat. When she visits I don't even turn the oven on the entire time. She thoroughly spoils us, dh feasts every day and my dc are indulged with their fussiness. Too bad that my dp are 1000s of miles away.

Peclet · 01/07/2024 20:03

beef wellington at a nice pub in my hometown. Just perfection. I can still taste it 25 years ago!

also a very posh pub some years ago I had this delicious sea bass with a buerre blanc. So good. Simple but done so well.

fishonabicycle · 01/07/2024 20:04

Fish ravioli at Latinum in London (now closed), fish tacos in a restaurant at the end of a pier in california somewhere, steak and fried potatoes in Florence, paella just outside Noja, northern Spain.
