Homemade lasagna.

Is it one of the best inventions known to man?
Just stood in the kitchen with my lovely meaty, tomatoey sauce in one pan and the cheesy loveliness in the other. One of the best best is getting a spoonful of the mincemeat and topping it with the cheese sauce and just eating it off the spoon, whilst you’re stood over it, cooking it all. It has to be a very tomatoey, cheesy, thick lasagna, also extra nice, if left and eaten later in the evening or the next morning,

Anyway, sorry, just a homemade lasagna appreciation post.

Agreed and I do it in my sleep now and make enough for 2 days. It freezes so well and is a lifesaver when you are tight for time

This is shameless lasagne porn.

May I suggest you try making homemade cottage pie- except with spiced keema mutter type mince and garlic turmeric potatoes?

  1. You can still do your double dippy stuff
2.you do not need to add potatoes

Although IMOP you do not need to add potatoes to lasagne as double carb melt down

DilemmaDelilah · 29/05/2024 17:29

Sooooo delicious! I, of course NEVER eat any of the sauce... It all goes into the lasagne. (Except at the end when there 'just happens' to be quite a lot on the sides of the pan which needs to be wiped off with some fresh bread before the pan is washed) 😁

bridgetreilly · 29/05/2024 17:29

Now, if we’re talking homemade cottage pie you need to start with left over roast beef…

BabsMustGo · 29/05/2024 17:31

YABU

Lasagna doesn’t have cheese sauce in it! 😱

Breadcat24 · 29/05/2024 17:31

@bridgetreilly except there is never any leftover😢
Unlike TV chef out joints are so small you are lucky to get a sandwich.

Now roast pork we have leftovers to make spiced pulled pork... also easy to steal a taste from

Lasagna is way too much faff.

Yeo totally agree. I rarely make it. I'd rather just make the ragu and have it as spaghetti Bolognese...then make a white sauce, assemble and bake.

It's nice enough but definitely not worth the effort imo.

PuppetQueen · 29/05/2024 17:35

I love lasagne, but if I don't have the time or inclination to make it myself, then I find that the Charlie Bigham's version is almost as good as home-made. Spendy, but sooo good!

Why is there an epidemic of people being unable to spell "lose" and "lasagne"?

Not trying to grammar police, just confused as to why it's those two words in particular. Autocorrect doesn't explain it, because that also attempts to mistakenly correct plenty of other words too, and yet it's just "loose" and "lasagna". 😬

Actually, no, "Bolognaise" is another MN abomination. Must be Italian food/pasta related.

Idrinkmywhiskeyneat · 29/05/2024 17:42

@XDownwiththissortofthingX Agree about Lose…but I’ve always always said Lasagna 🤷🏻‍♀️

Had a quick (paranoid)check of my posts after your grammar police

But Lasagne is correct anyway not what you have written- lasagna
If you are going Italian and quite honestly you should with an Italian dish

Idrinkmywhiskeyneat · 29/05/2024 17:43

@BabsMustGo WHAT?

Breadcat24 · 29/05/2024 17:45

Babs is right it is bechamel

Westfacing · 29/05/2024 17:48

Now, I'm old and can tell you that the UK spelling used to be lasagne, but with the internet, whatever, over the decades lasagna, the US spelling, has become common. I'm easy with either!

Caiti19 · 29/05/2024 17:49

I hear you. I like any dish that can be frozen in individual portions and keeps on giving for a month or so.

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 29/05/2024 17:51

Guilty as charged. I forget that some MN users will be using Americanised text on phones etc, although I'm sceptical that explains it fully since MN is a hugely UK-centric userbase.

Just seems really jarring to me because I've never seen it spelled like that anywhere outside MN, and yet it's every other use on here.

Edited

And it can be bolognaise or bolognese

MN is quite literally the only place I have ever seen "bolognaise", so I'm really sceptical on that one, unless it's yet another creeping Americanism.

Idontjetwashthefucker · 29/05/2024 17:53

Breadcat24 · 29/05/2024 17:45

Babs is right it is bechamel

Yep, bechamel sauce and then cheese sprinkled on the top only for me

Breadcat24 · 29/05/2024 17:54

Sorry to be a pain in the arse but bolognese only

Breadcat24 · 29/05/2024 17:55

Italian derived pain in the arse if that excuses me

"Bolognese” hails from Bologna, Italy, and is the traditional term used to describe this hearty meat sauce. On the other hand, “bolognaise” is the French twist on the Italian classic, adding a little linguistic flair to the mix

From Google.

wibblywobblywoo · 29/05/2024 17:58

You are not wrong about lasagne, you are wrong to call it 'mincemeat' ......unless that really is what you make yours with, in which case....😱

It's just mince, minced meat if you are being very particular but definitely not mincemeat!

theriseandfallofFranklinSaint · 29/05/2024 17:58

I do love a homemade lasagne (even though it is a faffy meal) but you can't beat a pub lasagne - amazing! 😍
