To ask what your children would be called if they could choose their own name?

Inspired by the current thread about names, I thought I'd ask what your DC would like to be called if they could choose their own name?

My DC have always been OK with their names but I used to babysit for a little girl called Emily who was desperate to change her name to Angela.

Just text and asked my two (19 and 24) and neither have any idea. Wish I'd called them something more unique then I did. Ds19 I knew no one with that name now I know over 20 all younger than him.

DS age 4 wanted to be Loretta
DD age 3 wanted to be Rumpelstiltskin.
Now in their 40's, they're quite happy with their given names. 😋

My 7 Yr old (white British) son wants to be Mario.

cakecoffeecakecoffee · 28/05/2024 21:34

DS (5) wants to be called Rusty or Minecraft whenever we play, so I reckon he’d go for one of those.

cakecoffeecakecoffee · 28/05/2024 21:36

I wanted to be called Peter when I was little…. I’d even written that on some of my school work from back then.

NellietheNumpty · 28/05/2024 21:39

DS wants to be called Rembrandt. He has a tendency towards flamboyance and mischief. Fortunately although this has been his wish for a long time he has a sensible job in the city.

I've asked and got

" by my name" massive eye rolls from the 10yo

Loretta! 😂

Dorothy

She used to tell everyone it was her middle name. It wasn't.

My DS4 - Harry Potter (he’s never seen Harry potter in his life)

I gave my child a very normal, biblical name that can be shortened, he would prefer to be called by his Serbian middle name, that is so unusual it went out of fashion in 1920! We do call him by his preferred name.

Loretta is an incredible choice

Tigershark Jones.

This was when he was 4.

Borris · 28/05/2024 22:13

Madeleine - she's not called that

IThinkAdversePossessionApplies · 28/05/2024 22:14

Probably Pichu or Picatchu Hmm

Abhannmor · 28/05/2024 22:18

Always look on the bright side @maras2 !

HuxleyPigsSuitcase · 28/05/2024 22:39

Angel McThompson apparently, she's 10 and midway through writing her second novel (not for publication), this is the heroine's name

Correct. It's still one of his favourite films. 😆

MolkosTeenageAngst · 28/05/2024 23:20

I used to want to be called Annabella and I have a couple of pictures I drew when I was about 7/8 which I have labelled with the name. I think at the time I think I thought the name sounded exotic but now I’m quite happy with my fairly standard 80s name.

LittleMousewithcloggson · 28/05/2024 23:27

Older now and happy with her own name but mine once wanted to be called Kalani or Kendall (watches dance moms!)

My nephew wanted to be Jack Sparrow

My neighbours twin daughters want to be called Peppa and Suzie

mumroom6571 · 28/05/2024 23:28

Daisy la la

Whycantiwinmillionsandsquillions · 28/05/2024 23:31

When mine were younger Ryan & Chloe.

HcbSS · 28/05/2024 23:35

My friend and I would play a game as kids where we would pretend to be French and we had French names (Fleur and Delphine).
Fast forward 25 years and when covid started and track and trace wanted names for cafes etc, I would give my old French name as I didn’t want to disclose my real details on some flimsy list that would be left lying about (I’m a bit of a data protection freak anyway). Made me smile.

Tell your son I went to school with a Tom Riddle. No joke! He was acting a lovely lad and didn’t grow up to be a mass murderer
