To not understand how UK holiday parks so expensive

Kit543 · 27/05/2024 17:27

So we’ve just done our first European holiday park experience, beautiful spacious park, all activities, entertainment and several hours of free childcare included, clean, amazing facilities and atmosphere , not too busy and other guests very civilised and to top it, beautiful weather. No stink of sewage in the sea either. All for half the price of a UK holiday park and a fraction of centerparcs or anywhere like that. This isn’t in a 3rd world country, everything else in these countries costs the same as the UK. Just can’t understand now how UK parks get away with charging so much for what they offer?

I guess they ramped the prices right up during covid and now it's become the new normal?

GenderBlender · 27/05/2024 17:45

Oooh can you share where?

LlynTegid · 27/05/2024 17:50

Summer season is shorter in the UK in general, summer school holidays shorter than in many parts of Europe by at least a third. So peak pricing can be spread out and easier to recruit for a longer season I'd guess.

Then factor in business taxes, costs of Brexit etc.

Abitorangelooking · 27/05/2024 17:52

Yes tell us where!

floppybit · 27/05/2024 18:05

I also want to know where please??

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/05/2024 18:06

Sounds Amazing all that included

Holidays in U.K. are more costly then abroad I find

And least Abroad we get guaranteed sunshine

shockeditellyou · 27/05/2024 18:10

Pretty much any holiday park in France - Siblu, Eurocamp etc are a fraction of the price, especially during May half term as the French schools don’t have a holiday. Combined with Clubcard vouchers to pay for the ferry, and you can easily have a week away for about £800 for four in a chalet.

catgirl1976 · 27/05/2024 18:15

Anyone asking where should check out Yelloh villages. Mainly in France but a few in Spain and so on

We’ve been to a few and they are brilliant for children and have great facilities and the weather and loads cheaper than UK equivalents. If you book direct rather than with someone like Eurocamp it’s cheaper still and you get more choice on accommodation

Thwy knock centre parcs into a cocked hat

catgirl1976 · 27/05/2024 18:19

And I would really reccomend Yelloh village la Sergignan plage. 15 minutes from beziers airport which Ryanair and the like fly to. Right in the beach, great pools, water slides, restaurants, lovely chalets, bike hire.

Also stayed in some great ones (not Yelloh- independents but similar set ups) on lake Garda.)

Italy but similar prices around the rest of Europe. We’ve done 9-10 rated holiday parks in the UK for more than twice the price and they are absolutely nothing compared to what is offered here (independent but also eurocamp on site)
We’ve also tried similar price parks to here in UK too which were so dirty and dire that we’d of rather of stayed home

Supply and Demand.
That's all it is.

NotARealWookiie · 27/05/2024 20:42

We’re going to need to know the name of the park op! Love a recommendation!

CCSA · 27/05/2024 20:50

Turning up with a thread like this without sharing the rec or at least brand is gate keeping, humble brag ahole behaviour… it’s hardly a restaurant with 5 tables 🙄

catgirl1976 · 27/05/2024 20:55

In Italy I can recommend camping spiagfio d’oro at lake Garda and camping serenella also at Garda l

mitogoshi · 27/05/2024 21:47

Supply and demand, there are many competitors in Europe therefore they have to keep prices down, in the UK there's far fewer for the captive audience especially if you want indoor facilities (there's cheaper holiday parks without pool or just outside ones). Also people are willing to pay the prices in the U.K. plain and simple. Having better weather means they don't have to spend money on indoor heated pool complexes so it's a better comparison to look at prices in Germany or the Netherlands

?? I’ve already said it’s eurocamp, Italy but they have them all over Europe with similar facilities/prices and don’t have to necessarily book with eurocamp as tend to be several companies operating from same site

I’ve looked at prices in Germany and the Netherlands and still far cheaper than in the UK and reviews seem just as good as in Italy. Have done the UK ones with loads of research to go to the best reviewed places and still never experienced anything comparable price or facilities wise. We’ve been to the cheaper parks with no indoor pool too but it’s not just that. It’s just astounding what a different level it’s on here now have experienced it.
I suppose it must be the supply/demand side of things, there’s been plenty of kids here from all different countries and prices cheaper if we’d not come around half term so don’t think it’s just the way the school holidays fall. We looked at doing the UK for exactly the same dates. A shame, it would be great to have something similar in the UK even if we don’t always have the weather (mainly sunny on holiday but some rainy days too which haven’t been an issue as still so much offered) We just seems to get either astronomically fairly ok expensive holiday parks here or ok ones which are still fairly expensive. None of them seem like have any kind of vibe to them either

Because so many people are stupid and lazy same goes for package holidays.

let them pay and we can enjoy the quality across europe.

TeenLifeMum · 27/05/2024 22:10

European holiday parks are lovely and have a different group of holiday makers than uk parks attract. I’ve never witnessed a punch up in a European one but in the uk I’ve seen a few. (Yes I know uk is in Europe technically but you know what I mean).

YaMuvva · 27/05/2024 22:11

YANBU

Since COVID we did a few UK holiday parks and discovered some hidden trainers in the UK. When I looked for holidays this summer it was the same for a week in a Devon holiday park than it was in parts of Spain Turkey and Tunisia.

catgirl1976 · 27/05/2024 22:12

Never go through eurocamp

Go direct with the park itself and you’ll get access to a much wider range of accommodation

Ha, yes I must admit this was recommended to me years ago as the most amazing place to holiday, had just thought the only thing we were missing out on by not leaving the UK was the better chance of good weather but at least saving ourselves the hassle of the travelling 🤣

Yes, know what you mean totally, wish a replica of this was available back to the UK, even if obviously without the stunning scenery and weather.

I love a European holiday park but the accommodation isn't always amazing. We did one in the Netherlands that absolutely reeked of cigarettes and the Calor gas ran out on the last morning meaning cold showers for us both.
On another there was a smashed glass on the kitchen floor and no dust pan and brush to sort it out.
In France last year, in a lovely campsite that we have stayed in before, adults were launching themselves off the rafters into the swimming pool (it was unstaffed).
I think it's just luck of the draw.
