To reduce hours when labour win election

Parttimeplay · 24/05/2024 01:40

I fall into the “60%” tax bracket. With the upcoming elections and knowing the government always hammer the middle ground….woudlnt it make more sense for me to cut my hours for a more relaxed life, eligibility for childcare, reduced tax?

So I can’t be on here all the time as I work 10 hours approximately 5 days a week in a very stressful environment. I wanted to know what my agenda was? It’s not clear. I’ve got an interest in politics and economics. Always have done. I also have used MN for years as I am - guess what - a mum. So I’m not quite sure what you’re alluding to. I asked for clarity.

I didn't say that you were on here all the time. I asked why you spend so much time posting on here slagging off labour if you don't support any party and don't intend to vote. Regarding your agenda it is obviously to put people off voting for labour and probably to make them vote Tory. I'm not suggesting it is your job to do that though as you certainly aren't very good at making people want to listen to you.

Your reaction to anything not pro Labour would suggest no one will convince you not to vote for them

I’m sure the pp is just posting their opinion like anyone else. She’s just getting more flack as it’s not Labour’s great

So you think I’m a Tory shill here to convince people to vote Tory? I don’t really care if you listen to me. You said I am here a lot. Kind of impossible when I work at least 50 hours a week. Suggesting people are Tory shills when they are not is a form of troll hunting. It is also lazy and poor debating. Not everyone wants to vote Labour. I know this is really hard to comprehend. Not everyone wants to vote for either of the main parties. They do say reading comprehension is about age 9 in the UK.

It's not impossible to spend a lot of time on here if you work 50 hours a week!! You would think that though given you are arguing that everyone on mn except you is unemployed and claiming benefits.

It really is impossible tbh. You’ll note as the pp has pointed out it is you arguing with me. However, unlike you - I’m not accusing you of being a Labour bot. Although that would be easy to do. You’re not - just blinkered. I however don’t trust either of the main parties. It’s not my fault if you aren’t following the complexities and economic discussions in my posts.

You’ve certainly insinuated it on many posts. The fact you even think I’m here to convince people to vote Tory is laughable. I can’t stand them. Maybe read your posts back.

As I said, I think you are trying to convince people not to vote for labour and perhaps to vote Tory. This is based on your numerous posts on this thread and other similar ones. I am certainly not suggesting you are a bot or that anyone has employed/asked you to do that though.

Well to be honest - you need to drop it. It’s becoming personal and it’s an outright, repetitive lie and as I’ve said in many posts: I am politically homeless for multiple reasons. I am not trying to convince anyone to not vote for anyone. I don’t care who people vote for. I do care about the damage both main parties are doing to this country through populist, short - term politics.

Again, it’s not my fault if you can’t understand that from the posts. Where everything not praising Labour as the 2nd coming = Tory bot. It is lazy and shows that you can’t debate the issues at hand with a balanced and unbiased outlook. Again not my fault.

That’s precisely what you have done. Anyone that disagrees with you is attacked and called a bot.

You might not be able to tolerate any other world view beyond your own - but if you could engage properly you would learn a great deal about other people’s lives and motivations. The black and white you are wrong - I am right is really unhelpful. We all want a caring, constructive and compassionate society we just differ on how we get there. I believe in empowering people and creating a strong workforce that is proud of their country and exhibits independence, creativity, enterprise and innovation.

Starmer wants to equalise at all costs even knowing it’s impossible due to our human traits, level everything and provide via the state. The paternal state. I believe people should be self determining and not reliant on state control - determining destinies.

We all care about other people. Those that are sick or disabled should have support and help. But helping others that are perfectly healthy sometimes means handing over some responsibility so they can be a productive and responsible part of society.

I’m not a Tory or a Tory policy maker. So stop troll hunting. I’ve never voted Tory. I won’t vote for Labour either. They can’t answer how they will get us out of the highest state dependency on record which we borrow to fund. They need to make work pay and fast.

I was joking about the Tory policy maker. They have policies aimed at getting the long term sick back into work and I thought that was what you were saying in your post.
I wasn't troll hunting, I believed those to be your views.

BIossomtoes · 25/05/2024 16:34

I count the middle as £100-300k a year, which is much higher than MN thinks.

Goodness. Maths has changed when the top 1% is in the middle. Hope you don’t work in finance.

Even weirder when you realise that this is the only thing the OP has ever posted on mumsnet. Almost seems... fake.

I change my username every day or so and have been here for ages. It’s hardly unusual behaviour.

JustTooMany · 25/05/2024 17:27

whistleblower99 · 25/05/2024 05:34

The accusations of people being bots is tedious. Just because they have an opposing opinion. If you think someone is a bot - report it. If you think someone is posting in bad faith - report it. Troll hunting is against MN rules. It’s also a lazy argument for people who don’t understand the issues at hand.

Edited

I know. It’s tiresome. I have always voted Labour and am in my fifties but find these accusations tedious.

eg Labour may be coming into power so affected parents (not me) are posting about the rise in private school fees as it will directly affect them. Yet if they post about it they are accused of being Tory bots. Very unimaginative.

JustTooMany · 25/05/2024 17:36

pinkzebra02 · 25/05/2024 13:52

'Very little' doesn't mean 'nothing'. Of course some hard work is required but when you look at how demographics and background affect success, hard work is one of the smallest factors.

I think family life, education and demographics play a part in getting a place at medical school. But once there, and in the junior doctor years, it’s all about the insane hard work. So a mix really.

You obviously haven't read my posts if you think I have called anyone a bot. I have read your posts though given some of the quite objectionable comments you have made I very much doubt that you are "caring and compassionate" about the sick and disabled.

So you don't actually care who is running the country?

IsThisOneAvailable · 25/05/2024 17:55

Parttimeplay · 24/05/2024 02:18

I’m not saying the tories haven’t made a mess. I’m just saying in my situation, when labour get it, it’s just going to become pointless for me. Increased taxes, vat on schooling etc etc

Why only pointless under Labour? Why is any less pointless under a Tory government?

Genuine question.

whittingtonmum · 25/05/2024 17:59

I am not sure you can call yourself 'middle ground' that gets hammered by Labour if you're in the 60% tax bracket.

The country has been hammered by the Tories with a failing NHS, crumbling school, ridiculous rents & house prices & a crashed economy. Yet a Labour government will come for you and your hard earned cash 😐

It might be time to stop the scare mongering and embrace the future.

ConsuelaHammock · 25/05/2024 18:03

I agree with you op. I would do the same if I was in your situation. The squeezed middle are starting to do exactly what those benefiting from their taxes have been doing for years. Good for them!
You can always go back full time when your children are older.

keffie12 · 25/05/2024 18:09

It's worth remembering that no government has any money in the pot. Their monies come from the taxes, VAT, etc. paid in by the public plus what is borrowed.

The link below will surprise you that it is a delusion that the Tories are more responsible financially than labour.
