What was I supposed to do? Re children's bikes blocking entrance to residential parking

About twenty minutes ago I got home. I live in some flats which are at the end of a cul de sac. These flats have their own parking only for the use for flats residents and visitors.

Opposite the entrance to the flats' car park is a house with 2 boys (guessing 4 and 6) who ride their bikes long the road. They dumped their bikes at the entrance to the car park. I had to move one of the bikes to allow me to drive to my bay.

Then about ten minutes ago, I had the boys' father kicking off at me that I shouldn't be touching his sons' bikes. I explained that the bikes were blocking the entrance (only one car width). What was I supposed to do then? Drive over the bikes causing them damage and to my car - already paid a couple of hundred this month for replacement of wing mirror and then having to pay to buy new bikes.

Some parents don't understand that kids cannot leave their bikes dumped everywhere and if not expect strangers to move them if they are deemed in the way.

Dad is an entitled arsehole. You did absolutely nothing wrong.

vodkaredbullgirl · 23/05/2024 16:58

The dad is a twat.

RatherBeRiding · 23/05/2024 16:59

I hope you told him where to stick his bikes?

MonsteraMama · 23/05/2024 17:00

You were fine OP, he's just an entitled prat raising entitled prats. He's lucky someone didn't steal the bikes, or pick them up and launch them into the nearest wheelie bin.

fitzwilliamdarcy · 23/05/2024 17:01

YANBU. Some parents just believe that this is their kids' world and everyone else has the fortune to live in it. You did nowt wrong.

Gymmum82 · 23/05/2024 17:02

‘Cool next time I’ll just drive over it and maybe he’ll learn not to leave it there again’

Then walk off

Oblomov24 · 23/05/2024 17:12

What a twat. What was he suggesting you do?

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 23/05/2024 17:14

You just met with twat dad.

dammit88 · 23/05/2024 17:14

Did you just move it aside? Or move it where they couldn't get it? It seems a very strange reaction!

MinervaMcGonagallsCat · 23/05/2024 17:15

YANBU

Dad is a dick

mactire · 23/05/2024 17:16

You just met an arsehole, that’s all.

TuckingFerrible · 23/05/2024 17:16

Well we now know just what fine upstanding citizens these two kids will become in a few years 🙄

IsANameImportant · 23/05/2024 17:20

I cannot think how on earth you could be deemed unreasonable here. Unless you threw the bike over a fence or something. Or you kicked it into the road.

ToxicChristmas · 23/05/2024 17:22

What was his answer when you told him where they were? I would have thought he'd be thankful that you moved them to a safer area. Can't please some people!

Hankunamatata · 23/05/2024 17:32

Assuming you carefull moved the bikes towards there house and didn't just throw them then yes dad is a twit

Couldyounot · 23/05/2024 17:33

"Perhaps teach them not to leave their bikes lying around, sunshine. It's called parenting, give it a whirl"

Do you genuinely think you did anything wrong? If so then I'm sorry he made you feel that way and you haven't.

LakeTiticaca · 23/05/2024 20:02

It.needs a large truck that doesn't notice the bikes dumped in the way to drive right over them 😆😆

FiveGuyPastry · 23/05/2024 20:19

What is wrong with some of these parents? They think the sun shines out of their kid’s arse.

If I’d left someone’s bike in the way of someone’s drive my mum would’ve told me off and apologised to the driver.

theladyonherbike · 23/05/2024 20:21

OP

Do you live on a coucil eastae or HA estate?? If so, report the clown to the housing office as I often saw stuff like that when I visited clients on estates

PuttingDownRoots · 23/05/2024 20:23

If it happens again point put it would take seconds for them to be nicked

itsgettingweird · 23/05/2024 20:26

What did you say?

I always find asking the unreasonable twats what I should have done often leaves them open mouthed and silent. Because he can't actually suggest anything else to get the bikes out of your way.

Or next time they are blocking your entrance park your car in his way!

The guy lives in his own private house - perhaps a year. The flats are split into two - the first half are HA and tenanted by social tenants. The other half, where I live is shared ownership (I own my flat outright) and pay service charge to HA.

If he kicks off again, there is CCTV which the HA can pass over to the police.

Just move the bikes aside. Not your problem if they get damaged. How rude and stupid this parent is.
