We are already owed 2 months back pay!! So annoyed that they always do it in arrears, and now this!!

VesperLind · 23/05/2024 07:38

I wondered exactly that last night.

piefacedClique · 23/05/2024 07:43

Nobody…. It will just be a point for them to bicker over while actually getting nothing resolved…. A political Punch and Judy show with the hardworking NHS staff in the middle. What a shitshow!

GoogleWhacking · 23/05/2024 07:49

I was holding out hope that it would be an OK payrise this year because they wouldn't want to piss the entire NHS off. So cross.

No no one... And whoever gets in will claim poverty and ask for forgiveness and can we just wait for a "proper' inflation linked rise until they've fixed things.....

blondieminx · 23/05/2024 08:42

It’s another bit of broken Britain waiting in the in tray for the next govt.

Feel so sorry for NHS staff, you all deserve so much better than what you’ve had from the Tories. I hope you know how much most patients appreciate you.

InactionIsAWeaponOfMassDestruction · 23/05/2024 08:44

The cynic in me feels this is a contributing factor in the timing… the bill for public sector pay rises is huge and these tossers want a better balance sheet for campaigning

Ginmonkeyagain · 23/05/2024 08:45

No one. As of next week there is no Parliament until July 5.

All sorts of things that were in train will stop happening for six weeks or so.

Fallingforwards · 23/05/2024 08:46

They want to land it on Labour

Isn't that straight into summer recess? Well on 24th July, so nothing will get done until September, then it is conference season. Basically we are lending the government money!! They are getting the interest on OUR money!!

The civil service doesn't fully stop, so there'll be lots of things going on behind the scenes. Prep work, analyses, briefing documents etc. So the public progress might stop and they're might not be a decision, but there'll be material ready for the new government to access a soon as they're in power.

Family, work in CS, you'd be amazed how many meeting cancellations they've had already!

Oh I know, I've done a few GE in the service. It'll slow for sure but it never stops altogether. At least we never did in the Econ service.

My face just dropped. This completely escaped me until now.

For fucks sake!!!!

Parliament will only be open for 2 weeks before they all fuck off for summer recess, then they come back for 3 weeks in September and fuck of for conference season for a few weeks. This country is stuck now until at least mid October.

Yep sorely disappointed too.
already delayed and now no incentive for them to offer a decent rise.
I doubt we’ll see any rise (if given) until Nov pay 😫

newbathroomtilez · 26/05/2024 15:55

So it's looking like we will get about 6 months pay backdated?

There is no money to loan or get interest on! That’s why the can is getting kicked down the road.

Ilikewinter · 26/05/2024 15:59

Im a civil servant, we'd already been told that the pay review wont happen until much later this year - obviously it was be because of the pending GE but this was announced about 4 weeks ago.

StealthNameChange · 26/05/2024 16:02

This hadn’t even occurred to me until now 😞

Teado · 26/05/2024 16:05

So annoying. It’ll be a back-pay situation in November or December.

Which will mess up things for people on universal credits.

FTPM1980 · 26/05/2024 16:15

Parliament is different to government.
The government ministers are still in place, the DoH is still in place.
At the moment the pay review body is preparing a report for review by government.
In reality they are unlikely to make a decision until after the election....but that may well be to the benefit of NHS workers

Nowanextraone · 26/05/2024 18:09

Gah, I didn't think of this either. How bloody disappointing.

Boomer55 · 26/05/2024 18:11

I think independent bodies sort out pay reviews.

Angrymum22 · 26/05/2024 18:16

Having worked for the NHS for 35+ years I don’t remember ever getting a pay rise until Oct/Nov. Always had a nice lump sum catch up ready for Christmas.
Occasionally we had interim payments when they hadn’t finalised so pay rise was in two increments.
I always worked on the principal that you couldn’t spend it until you had it in the bank so never really stressed over it.

hopeishere · 26/05/2024 18:35

Boomer55 · 26/05/2024 18:11

I think independent bodies sort out pay reviews.

But I do t think they would be allowed to make any announcements until after "purdah".
