I've been battling my weight all my life. Now as a peri menopausal woman, it's just standing still or creeping up no matter what I do.
I eat healthier than I ever have. I exercise. Im 22 stone and it's not budging. It should be easy at this size to shed some. It's impossible. I have a heart condition, pre diabetes (not been tested for over a year) chronic acid reflux, fatty liver and the list goes on. Losing weight would change my life. I just can't seem to do it. Lost 10lb in a year. It's soul destroying.

OP posts:
TeenLifeMum · 24/05/2024 09:44

I don’t understand why everyone is saying you’d have to pay. My friend gets it on the nhs through his gp as he’s pre diabetic. Maybe it varies but speak with your gp and find the right approach for you.

In my experience, all diets work but you have to find one that’s realistic and closest to your lifestyle then commit.

ManilowBarry · 24/05/2024 09:45

You will lose weight if you start eating less.

Try a week of eating the same as you do now but halve the portion size. You'll still get the taste of the food that you like but you won't be eating so much.

I eat whatever I want, just not a lot of it. I've never been overweight and went through the menopause years ago and didn't gain any extra weight.

I have reduced my portion size as I've gotten older.

We are conditioned to think we should be eating large sized portions when we really don't need to.

Leavingasinkingship · 24/05/2024 09:47

It's frustrating how limited this is for people who would benefit. A good friend of mine has fibromyalgia and EDS, both of which significantly limit her ability to exercise and are exacerbated by weight. Also autistic with food sensory issues that make dieting harder (eg due to safe/unsafe food). She's been desperate to lose weight for years and has been through various NHS schemes but still no closer. She's been self funding for a while and using all her PIP to pay for it.

TeenLifeMum · 24/05/2024 09:48

Higglings · 24/05/2024 07:39

I dont see why the nhs should pay, buy it privately if you need it. But why don't you cut down your calorie intake instead? Join a gym, join weight watchers?

Because it’ll save the nhs money in the long term.

98% of bladder cancers are linked to smoking - would you not treat them because they brought it on themselves?

Leavingasinkingship · 24/05/2024 09:48

@ManilowBarry what a patronising post. Had it ever occurred to you that the OP might have tried to lose weight before?

SisterAgatha · 24/05/2024 09:55

I agree that I’d not take it without checking it’s not your thyroid first. Imagine spending all that money buying privately when it’s not even PCOS or blood sugar level related.

in the meantime, cut back as much as possible. I did lose 5 stone on my own (through the death anxiety diet 😂) and do have PCOS. Every little helps and my periods have never been better now. I have maintained too as it’s about changing your whole attitude to food and eating routines.

best of luck, but get checked out properly x

People on mumsnet love to come onto these threads and say "just eat less and move more!"- do you not think if it was that simple for everyone that nobody would be overweight?

OP, look at moujaro. I got my first pen (one month's supply) for £113 from Voy with a discount code, and there are always codes for other suppliers for later pens. I've lost 6kg in just over a month, it's completely removed food noise for me. If you can afford it, I wouldn't hang around on a doctor's waiting list (if you can even get on one). Order today, you won't regret it.

May I ask how you know what dosage to take? I've looked online and there seems to be different strengths available? Thanks!

Wow! Amazing insight from someone who has never been overweight or had a weight issue! Thanks for your advice \sarcasm\

Your prescriber will prescribe the correct dose

Exactly!

This is exactly the problem with this drug tbh. There are so many conditions people out there people may have but everyone wants to buy it down the market like it’s a cheap set of pans from del boys suitcase.

No one should be asking a random stranger on the internet what dosage to take, especially when you might have an undiagnosed thyroid condition…. Take this a bit seriously.

I've now requested a consultation for the correct dose.

To those people who believe that the ‘eat less, exercise more’ theory is the answer, I hope you never find yourself in the position where, no matter how little you consume and how much exercise you do, you can’t shift the weight. So much depends on genetics and physiology as well as intake and output.
I don’t eat takeaways or fast food, rarely have biscuits, cake or snacks. I’m not greedy or lazy - quite the opposite, actually and although I eat a reasonably healthy, well balanced diet, the weight remained.
Since starting on Mounjaro seven weeks ago, I have lost a stone. I make no apology for deciding to go down this route. The difference to my life and mental health is noticeable already.
I buy it from MedExpress and it costs about £150 per month (there are occasional discount codes on line).
I do advise to do your research before embarking on weight loss drugs. There are side effects and it’s as well to be aware and prepared.

I know someone said it before (rather rudely), but you will be spending less on your food intake - so if needed you would not necessarily 'spending' an additional sum of approx £120 per month?

OvalLemon · 24/05/2024 10:56

Pieceofpurplesky · 22/05/2024 23:55

Sadly not everybody can afford it.

You can buy it online for £109. If you are that overweight surely you are saving that amount each month on your food bills if it really does what it say it does. That’s knocking £25 a week off your food bill, which apparently you won’t have appetite for

Beat me to it!

Re: dosage- no need to be a medical professional, as the doses work the same for everyone. Start at 2.5mg (the lowest one), when that pen is done go up to 5mg, and so on.

Although fwiw, no website will give you the prescription before a medical professional looks over your file. Its not like ordering on ASOS.

Did you find you have any side effects? Constant nausea etc? And do you get any doctor supervision when buying online?

Are you seriously trying to claim that if such a person were to eat nothing or less than 500 calories per day while being normally active they wouldn't lose weight or even die of starvation??

All those millions that went into concentration camps - there must have been loads of obese ones that survived in your theory! All those starving Africans - show me photos of the fat ones among them.

Every single programme that has secretly filmed these mythical beings have discovered that the person was eating far far more than they were admitting to - even to themselves.

Changethetune · 24/05/2024 11:06

@OvalLemon The side effects for me have been a bit of heartburn overnight and a slight lightheadedness. Nothing that I couldn’t deal with, thankfully.
@BMW6 Thank you for your shrewd, helpful insight.

Allofaflutter · 24/05/2024 11:08

I can’t afford to pay for this so I’ve been fasting. I now fast for 3 days a week. Then only eat OMAD of keto food. It saves me money. And in 5 weeks Ive lost 9kg. My dr is on board with it as my bmi is high 50’s. Normal diets don’t work for me. I tried slimming world and it’s half a pound off next week it’s back on no cheating.I literally have to stop eating for 3 days. I have 12 stone still to lose. I’m an emotional eater and have had an awful lot of trauma which I ate my feelings too. I have insulin resistance so fasting helps with that as does keto. My health is suffering badly because of the weight. My dr sent me to Luton and they said to do the milk diet they have. I couldn’t do that. It made me throw up.

Allofaflutter · 24/05/2024 11:10

I’m hoping to reverse my insulin resistance by losing enough weight that when I’m normal sized again weight won’t pile on.

unsync · 24/05/2024 11:33

@Pastelbuttercream My calorie allowance is 1796 per day, but I get extra for exercise. I do 4 pilates classes, 30 min of uphill trekking, aqua aerobics and ad hoc swimming per week. I eat whatever I want as long as I stay within my calories. I have screenshotted a typical day. I went over on my food, but was still within as I had an extra 499 from exercise. I have linked the app in to my Samsung watch too so it logs all my steps.

I had the free version, but was so impressed with this app that I have subscribed (there are often 30% off offers). With the subscription you get access to more analysis so in time I'm going to start adjusting food so that it is more healthy. For the first time in ages, I feel like I can actually get somewhere.
