I've been battling my weight all my life. Now as a peri menopausal woman, it's just standing still or creeping up no matter what I do.
I eat healthier than I ever have. I exercise. Im 22 stone and it's not budging. It should be easy at this size to shed some. It's impossible. I have a heart condition, pre diabetes (not been tested for over a year) chronic acid reflux, fatty liver and the list goes on. Losing weight would change my life. I just can't seem to do it. Lost 10lb in a year. It's soul destroying.

Someone on here has mentioned before that they got it from a Weight Management clinic. That's the only case I've ever heard of, and she said it took three years of other treatments before they even started prescribing it. There's a reason everyone on it is paying privately.

CormorantStrikesBack · 24/05/2024 06:40

You may well get it on the nhs. A friend of mine with a slightly higher bmi gets it on the nhs, she has health conditions caused by her weight.

BookishBabe · 24/05/2024 06:41

My BMI is higher than yours and my tests are showing I'm prediabetic.
My GP has put me on a waiting list to speak to a weight loss consultant of some kind, that was 14 months ago.
I truly hope you can find something that works for you, but for me there's no chance of getting it anytime soon.

No It's Tier 3 on the NHS. You need to go through the whole pathway which is about 18 months. It's not fit for purpose. Unless you are now diabetic, in which case you can have Ozempic for diabetes, but they usually just fob you off with Metformin.

You should be able to get it for around £150 a month if you shop around. Also, I can recommend using the MyNetDiary app to track your food and exercise as doing all three things together works well. I take Mounjaro and am losing about 1kg a week which I'm really pleased with.

That’s fab weight loss. What do you typically eat I a day and how much do you exercise?

Bringbackthebeaver · 24/05/2024 06:57

I haven't heard of anyone getting ozempic on the NHS. I guess if they start prescribing it they will open the floodgates! (Although it might be cheaper for them in the long run...)

It's still worth talking to the GP about your weight, though. They might prescribe something like Orlistat which can also be really helpful - it helped me with my weight.

Also, don't do yourself down over losing 10lb in a year - that's still 10lbs less than you were a year ago. I know it's not as fast as you'd hoped but it's progress.

Lol the money she would otherwise spend on junk food 😂 how rude! Have you priced it privately? it's hundreds of pounds per injection. Or do you think greedy op is scoffing down 800 quid a month's worth of biscuits and oven chips? Get real.

Op you can try to get it on the NHS but I don't think you meet the criteria. It's worth asking, the worse that will happen is they say no. This is a subject I know a bit about and it actually annoys me that it's so hard to get because it can be made for very little money, in china off label counterparts are sold cheaply, I'm talking just a few pounds for a month's supply, but the drug companies that own the patent here won't release it, so nobody else is currently allowed to sell it. I do think that might be set to change next year though for some of the sister drugs, so prices may come down.

And I'm sure you've hard it all before but have you tried fasting or keto?

Fasting, keto you name it I've done it 😕

You can get it privately online for circa £200 per month. A quick google will bring up loads of options. I use myBMI.

Polomollo · 24/05/2024 07:28

I lost 8 stone naturally, for free, eating a healthy diet.

I don't understand people saying they 'can't' lose weight, when it's about eating less calories, you just eat less calories?

Is there another reason you can't eat better, OP? Are you unsure about nutrition? An emotional eater?

Well how did you even have eight stone to lose if you find it so easy?!

Op I've been on mounjaro for a month, paying £130 and I love it. It stops me from needlessly consuming food. It has made my brain clearer

My consultant, at a London hospital, offered this to me 3 weeks ago. We are taking a different route at the moment, but the offer is there if I want to take it.

Ooh interesting, which hospital? Weight clinic or another type of clinic? Do you have diabetes?

Higglings · 24/05/2024 07:39

I dont see why the nhs should pay, buy it privately if you need it. But why don't you cut down your calorie intake instead? Join a gym, join weight watchers?

Barts, another clinic, and no, I don't, though heading towards it.

CerealPonderer · 24/05/2024 07:46

How dare you. I do not spend money in junk food you ignorant cow

No one gets to 22 stone by eating too much salad and lean meat op.

No judgement here, I started this year obese and with 5 stone to lose and it's been slow progress so far. But I understand why I got to 5 stone overweight.

Failing to recognise or accept the problem won't help you lose and maintain the loss no matter what meds you take.

FlickyCrumble · 24/05/2024 07:47

Is ozempic available online without a face to face consultation with a dr? And how do you know which sites are trustworthy? In other words can someone recommend an online supplier?

For some people that doesn't help. Ozempic is showing to work especially well for women with PCOS, for who losing weight is an uphill battle due to insulin resistance. For me, an endocrine issue means, to lose weight, I need to eat under 800 calories a day, and few carbs - which leaves me ill.

Do you suggest we don't provide medication or oxygen for those with smoking related illness? Or those that break a bone doing something risky? Or those with melanoma from too much sun? What about PREP?

Or is only weight you have an issue with?

Because I decided I didn't want to be obese anymore, so I educated myself and changed my diet and lifestyle.

Funnily enough, by eating healthy and exercising, the weight just melted off.

Wanting a quick fix isn't a solution, just like fad diets aren't a solution.

Thethruththewholetruth · 24/05/2024 07:58

I read the obesity code, might explain and help with a way forward.

orangeblosssom · 24/05/2024 08:04

Will need to go private. Not available on the NHS currently

Can you afford £180 a month? That's what I pay for mounjaro. Finance options are available I believe

Does your GP get information that you are buying & using this drug?
Thanks

It's wegovy, not ozempic. You can get it online via boots online pharmacy or Asda pharmacy if you want a trusted supplier.

Yes

My trust makes you go through their weight management programme first. Its pretty crap tbh. If you can afford to buy it, then do it!

I agree. It always comes down to energy expended v fuel taken in.

If you expend more energy than you take in as fuel your body will start to use fuel stored as fat. It has to.

Sure your metabolism can be changed by menopause (as mine has) but that just means you need less fuel than before.

I absolutely guarantee that if you expend 2000 calories and take in 1500 per day for 2 months you will lose weight.
