I need to make sure I’m parked in front of the telly tomorrow.

As a vicar, would she have conducted births, deaths and marriages?
I would want my ‘money’ back if so…would feel so cheated…

I got as far as this post as I haven't been watching the live proceedings but I have a question - can the CoE remove her parish from her and effectively 'retire' her from active work in the Church? If so, how do we/they go about making it happen? She shouldn't have a pulpit to preach from.

IMO the tears were because she got found out and nothing more.

I think "Mr Bates vs The Post Office" series on ITV will go down as one of the most important programmes of the decade and while Private Eye might have been at one point the only publication writing about this, the fact that they did and they kept writing about it is only to their credit. I feel so sorry for the sub-post masters that were affected by this fraud that was carried out on them and their families.

Quirkyme · 23/05/2024 16:31

She's crying again.

On cue for the last few minutes, in her attempts to gain sympathy and leave a lasting impression.

Get outta here

Quirkyme · 23/05/2024 16:32

She does this crying voice but then doesn't actually cry.

nauticant · 23/05/2024 16:33

If I recall correctly, the leading reporting was by Computer Weekly LookItsMeAgain.

She won't be winning any Oscars to be sure.

Nope, but it's a shame this live broadcast is probably not eligible for a BAFTA, it's gripping.

Must get supplies in for tomorrow, I'm nearly out of milk.

Daphnis156 · 23/05/2024 16:35

She will get away with it.
There are too many others who would have to face the music if she were found at fault.
She will re-find God, be appointed something by the Archbishop of Canterbury, and become a BBC presenter.
They all do- look at Jonathan Aitken.

I think that the CoE can convene an ecclesiastical court. I remember years ago, vicar had had an affaire with a parishioner.

He was defrocked for "conduct unbecoming of a clerk in holy orders". The phrase has stayed with me for years....

.... it seems applicable to Vennels....

nauticant · 23/05/2024 16:36

Jason Beer is done. The whole of tomorrow will be given over to questions from core participants. That's going to be brutal.

LookItsMeAgain · 23/05/2024 16:37

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 22/05/2024 15:14

I believe around £150m has been paid out to date including interim payments. Final figures will be significantly north of that though. There's a tracker for the various compensation schemes on the Post Office website.
https://corporate.postoffice.co.uk/en/the-horizon-it-scandal/

£150m wouldn't touch the sides of this to be fair. People lost their jobs, their careers, their families and some lost their lives. All because an IT system said that they owed the PO money but the PO/Fujitsu knew this to be false.

If I worked for The Post Office, I'd want to hand in my staff card & badge and find another job somewhere else as I couldn't stomach working for such an organisation.

Is that the victims?

EggcornAcorn · 23/05/2024 16:37

Curses, I am in meetings all afternoon tomorrow.

Quirkyme · 23/05/2024 16:38

@LookItsMeAgain

I agree. Feel strongly about your last sentence too

MikeRafone · 23/05/2024 16:38

no vicars are conducting baptism, marriages and burials

general register office and registers write out birth death and marriage certificates

Quirkyme · 23/05/2024 16:39

Hahah "excellent behaviour that's prevailed throughout the day"

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Tell Venells to stop pretending to cry too

AlohaRose · 23/05/2024 16:39

Paula is wondering if she can possibly claim that Susan was also responsible for keyboard procurement?

littlbrowndog · 23/05/2024 16:39

Who are the core participants

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 23/05/2024 16:39

Is it wrong to be looking forward to tomorrow? Just a tiny bit of what she put others through.

Quirkyme · 23/05/2024 16:40

Is McCloud someone who was accused of stealing money or someone who worked for the Post Office?

The person he just announced won't be giving evidence

Former PO Lawyer .... now lives down under. Some witnesses in the last phase initially refused to cooperate. At least one had a house call from a court official who presented him with a summons.

@Sceptic1234

Yes but vicars do conduct these things. Everyone knows that they do, and many of us have seen it. That was a very pedantic comment.

Yep and Alaistair Campbell and his sexed up dossier, he’s always doing programmes on the telly. Makes me almost retch to see his face.

you did ask a question, with a question mark at the end of the sentence - I only answered the question factually
