She couldn’t dig herself deeper even if she tried.

‘Im not sure’!

and I don’t recall again
I’m sorry!

liar liar pants on fire

Quirkyme · 23/05/2024 15:02

There's a lot of "imagining" too.

"I imagine" this, "I imagine" that

littlbrowndog · 23/05/2024 15:02

Can’t recall which lawyers ffs

No time for Susan

still don’t understand why Susan was not allowed in

Because she would have told the board that there was substance to SPMs claims about Horizon.

ALovelyCupOfNameChange · 23/05/2024 15:05

Anyone else picturing Susan on a chair like a naughty child?!

Image is burned into my mind, the way Beer keeps referencing it. 🤣

Think he'll mention again?

More like a waif in Victorian workhouse, doing all the work!

ALovelyCupOfNameChange · 23/05/2024 15:06

In my head she’s sitting on her hands swinging her legs as the chairs far too big for her

Quirkyme · 23/05/2024 15:09

I have an image of a woman in grey suit with a skirt, white shirt, with her hands clasped tightly in her lap, with her head down. Kinda like when cats loaf.

Don't ask me why I have this image but that's what comes to mind

Quirkyme · 23/05/2024 15:11

Beer needs to debrief on this break, and detach from the chair image haha

littlbrowndog · 23/05/2024 15:11

He is must have heard you

She is caught between the devil and the deep blue sea.
Her only hope is to convince people that she is thick, the alternative is that she is evil but if she is thick how did she come to be paid that much wonga ??

Her entire evidence is just awful. I fully realise that she is shielding herself as much as possible by actually not saying much at all, but it's astonishing to watch this poor spectacle being played out.

I also can understand that there are certain points she may not actually remember fully due to the passage of time, but she will have been fully reminded of them in the various preparations she has needed to undertake in recent years.

I still can't get over the lawyer who claimed he didn't know how to download an attachment or actually print it. When faced with the evidence he had done both he still claimed he had no idea, a bright spark as him, how to do such a thing.

Sadly, this would all be very entertaining if it were just a company that had been mismanaged, accepting that is still not great for the staff etc. But this is so much more serious than that. It just beggars belief listening to the evidence.

I've also read the Computer Weekly article and Private Eye article today and they are both an interesting read.

nauticant · 23/05/2024 15:25

Now it's the bit where Vennells hoped to make the scandal go away by paying off subpostmasters with, at most, £3-5K, or, better still, nothing.

Actually I think he is adopting a clever strategy

PV's constant refrain (when she can remember) is "I'm not a lawyer and cannot speak to legal issues" so he is reminding everyone that there was a lawyer present, but that PV chose to leave her outside while PV chose to present the legal paper herself and was confident to engage in a legal discussion without a lawyer present

littlbrowndog · 23/05/2024 14:30

55 prosecution per year for last 10 years. Did they not wonder why so many

As a PP mentions, it appears the senior folk thought a lot of the postmasters were on the take. No doubt judging them by their own standards.

WiddlinDiddlin · 23/05/2024 15:32

Oh, its clear is it, that she meant they were trying to avoid paying compensation that wasn't due? Really.

No one wants to pay compensation to someone who isn't due it, thats implied by the concept of compensation.

So that line very clearly means they wanted to avoid paying compensation wherever possible and to limit compensation to a token small sum if they absolutely had to.

But in any case, it is all Susans fault.

DanielGault · 23/05/2024 15:32

She recalls something very clearly! Hallelujah 🙏

littlbrowndog · 23/05/2024 15:33

Hope

nauticant · 23/05/2024 15:33

Vennells taken to a 2014 note where she said the aim of the scheme was to make a token payment and give an apology.

littlbrowndog · 23/05/2024 15:34

Yes she knew the facts

It's very interesting that she remembers issues when she is throwing others under the bus in great detail but when it is to do with her own statements and discussion she suddenly has vague or no memories ....

Strange that isn't it. She has some brass neck on her.

nauticant · 23/05/2024 15:35

Vennells back to throwing Crichton under a bus while saying she was supporting her.
