Vinted stress

I've sold loads of items on Vinted with no issues. Usually low cost items like second hand baby bits or old tops for £1 or £2. A week or so ago I decided to sell some new trainers on there that didn't fit rather than pay to return them to store. Sold them for £30 so still not mega high price but still more than usual.
They haven't been delivered and the tracking status says they are still shipping. There's a note saying delivery is taking longer and if they aren't marked as received by mid June Vinted will mark them as lost and offer up to £20.
So I'm losing out on a tenner because the one high ish value item I've sent has somehow gone missing.
I send them via Inpost and as I said I've never had issues before.
Has anyone else experienced this? Surely Vinted should cover the whole cost? They can see what they sold for.

But vinted haven’t lost them, the delivery company has. Do they offer any kind of cover for lost items? I can’t see that this is on Vinted.

bumface232 · 18/05/2024 22:08

No idea. I'm just feeling a bit jaded because it's the first time I've sold anything worth quite a bit of money on there and trust that to be the one thing that goes missing.
They were identifiable as trainers by the weight and box (although brand new condition obviously not known) so I guess I found it a bit sus.
Regardless Vinted work with the delivery companies so surely they have an obligation to compensate? It could have been a pair of £100 shoes in which case I'd be seriously out of pocket.

What was the cover from InPost?

I think they only cover up to £20

If selling a higher value item then you need to make sure the postage options have high enough cover

Emmerald · 18/05/2024 22:10

I've got the same issue (but mine was a £7 top) popped it in the Inpost locker a week ago and they're saying it's possibly lost.

Hoolagan · 18/05/2024 22:12

This happens to me all the time and 90% of the time the item turns up. Just hang tight

bumface232 · 18/05/2024 22:13

I will obviously learn from this and not sell higher value items again. First time I've done it and thought it was pretty safe. Feeling pissed off as originally paid £40, would have cost me £5 to return and so I took the hit and sold them for £30. Now I'm only likely to get half that price back.
Hopefully it's just delayed but I don't think so.

What do you mean that they were identifiable as trainers from the box? Did you not wrap the box in some sort of packaging?

I've sold a few pairs of shoes on Vinted, some for over £50 as brand new unworn and they all arrived. I made sure the courier options had enough compensation for them and wrapped up the box in a re-used plastic envelope bag.

rickandmorts · 18/05/2024 22:18

I'm on the receiving end and had a similar message yesterday, saying if my item didn't turn up by mid June I'd get my money back. And they arrived this morning! So they may get delivered in a day or two, fingers crossed.

Congratulations you are a far better seller than me.

Use Royal Mail signed for for more valuable items.

Gymmum82 · 18/05/2024 22:23

Don’t worry. I’ve had this happen several times and they’ve always turned up. Just a bit late

Kisskiss · 18/05/2024 22:30

Inpost can be pretty rubbish - I had at least 4-5 parcels go back to sender because the receiving locker was full , does the tracking page say anything about delivery attempt failing?

ButWhatAboutTheBees · 18/05/2024 22:30

BuckFadger · 18/05/2024 22:23

Don't use RM on Vinted
It's not one of their integrated postage options and you have limited cover

It's also a well known scam tactic so people are reticent to use sellers asking for it

bestbefore · 18/05/2024 22:44

Everything I've sold on vinted the buyer sorts the postage label - don't see how it's the OPs fault?

LividPink · 18/05/2024 22:48

I just bought a dress.

The seller sent something entirely different. Mixed up label I guess.

Vinted have told me that their policy is I, me, the buyer who has not fucked up, pay to return the item. There is no option for the seller to pay for the return postage.

It’s only a few quid but absolutely batshit as a policy.

Ineedaholidayyyy · 18/05/2024 22:49

I wouldn't worry just yet, I've been selling for a over a year and every so often a parcel will take longer to ship. I think the longest one took about 21 days, I would give it time.

Catnipcupcakes · 18/05/2024 22:51

I’ve sold many, many items of clothing for £300 - £500 a piece on ebay and never had a problem, bar a few stupid returns. I’d never use vinted, it sounds awful.

The inpost lockers get full really quickly and sometimes it takes a long time for a parcel to make it into one. They keep trying for a while though. I believe stuff is returned to sender if the locker couldn’t be accessed in ten days or so, so hang on, and try and get your buyer to hang on, would be my advice. I know, easier said than done, I know what buyers are like, I’m one myself.

bumface232 · 18/05/2024 22:51

I say I've had no issue sending things on inpost before which I haven't. But a few months back I did buy something, collect it from the locker and it was a completely different item. I get that there's room for human error but I just feel pissed off that I'm out of pocket. Had it been a £2 item I wouldn't have minded so much.
I guess there's the possibility of it getting lost even if I'd retuned it to store.
I think next time I just need to check the policies a bit more and think twice before selling higher value items.

This is reassuring hopefully it will arrive before the deadline.

I’ve only had two things go missing when selling on vinted, both times it was shoes. Fortunately both losses covered by the chosen postage option. It has made me more wary about selling shoes on there!

MrsWhites · 18/05/2024 22:56

Inpost have taken almost a week to get a parcel to me and this morning it updated to ‘is taking longer than expected’ but it arrived this afternoon so I wouldn’t lose hope yet.

Given that the buyer picks postage and you can’t turn off inpost for just one order I think it’s unfair to expect the seller to take less compensation that they had sold for.

BridgetRandomfuck · 18/05/2024 22:57

I’ve had a couple of things go missing using InPost when I’ve sold - only two out of c.50 items. Both times Vinted refunded me, one was a £25 item and I was a bit panicked as it said InPost covered up to £20. But I contacted Vinted directly and they refunded the full amount. Perhaps as they can see my sales history and know that I’m not a scammer. It’s worth a try OP.

Cherrysoup · 18/05/2024 23:01

You know the buyer protection thing on Vinted that makes you pay another couple of quid? That normally covers you, Inpost not involved. 2 things have gone missing, one I sent, one I bought. The seller can complain after the deadline and you both get refunded, that’s why you have to pay the buyer protection fee. I think, therefore, that if the item is lost, you’re both ok.
