Anyone up to marvel at my DP's stupidity?

We've arrived in Venice.
Had to walk through a slightly flooded square to get to hotel so took shoes off and went for it. Get a shower in hotel, no big deal.

I look behind me and DP is wheeling the CANVAS suitcase right the through the dirty canal water.

Am now stood handwashing my (new) dresses in the sink and fuming.

I deliberately packed carefully so only have precisely enough clothes for the days we're here.

He thinks IABU to be pissed off.

AIBU?

One day you will laugh about this, when you're celebrating your golden wedding anniversary. Assuming he's not under the patio by then .... 😉

Try not to let it spoil your trip.

Tbh I'm more shocked that you thought walking through dirty canal water barefoot was a smart idea. The nasty infections you could end up with will be much worse than a few dirty dresses.

Yes, I’d be wanting to cut my feet off if I’d had to do this 🥴

Barefoot through water is the stupid thing!

I would agree, but then if the shoes were going to get soaked and the feet get wet inside with the manky water anyway, I'd probably at least try to save the shoes from ruin and scrub the feet at the earliest opportunity!

I would have probably assumed, as a woman, that my suitcase had a degree of waterproof robustness that would get through walking across a square without soaking my clothes.

and there’s no way I’d have taken my shoes off to walk through dirty water!

Same. I probably wouldn't have thought twice about just wheeling it

JFDIYOLO · 17/05/2024 15:53

Re Venezia ... I once stood in tears staring at a German railway timetable trying to get to Cologne and not realising it was Köln. I was 55.

But why are you not standing over him supervising him handwashing your dresses?

minipie · 17/05/2024 15:59

In future, why don’t you be in charge of the bag. Delegating the heavy lifting has its upsides but also its risks.

greglet · 17/05/2024 16:03

I walked through calf-deep water when I was in Venice aged 23. It was that or my Uggs. I did worry about rats and all the various waterborne diseases I was probably acquiring, but I had no choice!

🤣🤣🤣

Just don't fucking care, someone else will sort it...
They cannot be thickos at work, can they?

YachtMistress · 17/05/2024 16:28

Go shopping........with wine pit stops

Barleycat · 17/05/2024 16:29

What an idiot. I'd be fuming and dumping his stuff in the canal

KateMiskin · 17/05/2024 16:30

This is the kind of thing I would easily and unthinkingly do, so I wouldnt be too angry.

Not 'her bag', it was 'the suitcase'. It's pretty common for a couple to take one case which the stronger of them carries, with the other person carrying smaller bags. In most (not all) couples that means the bloke carries the case.

I don't think it takes any particular feat of strength to wheel a case along behind you.

But if you're happy to let someone else do the "heavy lifting" you have to accept that they may not do it as you'd like.

Personally I wouldn't take a suitcase on a short trip and I'd carry my own rucksack but we're all different. I also wouldn't take my shoes off to wade through filthy water either.

CoralReader · 17/05/2024 19:10

Carry your own bag then

CoralReader · 17/05/2024 19:11

I’m assuming some of his clothes are also wet and dirty so he is also paying the price

cloudjumper · 17/05/2024 19:17

Well, OP, surely he has to take you shopping now, since you have nothing to wear?! 😉

OP and her DP sound like birds of a feather.

Exactly. Wash the feet well and dry them, job done.
