Is Summer overated?

To think Summer isn't all that?
Not like we all get June/ July/ August off work.

I bloody love it.

LookAtAllThoseRoses · 15/05/2024 14:17

What a strange post. You're allowed to think exactly as you like about summer, regardless of what anyone else feels about it, but I'm puzzled as to why you think a season might only be worth having strong emotion about if you got three months off work...?

ComtesseDeSpair · 15/05/2024 14:20

If you don’t like summer then I suppose that’s fine. But you don’t need June-September off work to make the most of it. If you work 9-5 then you have every morning from dawn and entire evenings and weekends which you can use to go for walks, hikes, cycles, park or beach picnics, or just sit in the garden enjoying your morning coffee or drinks and a barbecue. If you work shifts then you’ll have days off to spend doing whatever. It’s far easier to get motivated to do any of that on long warm days than ones where the dark draws in barely after lunchtime.

CitrineRaindropPhoenix · 15/05/2024 14:21

No. The longer days are worth it for themselves.

Aquarius1234 · 15/05/2024 14:22

Just watching time go by is annoying if you really like Summer I'd say.
Having 2 or 3 weeks off max, when weather isn't guaranteed isnt enough .
Working through summer is boring.

I am a fully paid-up Summer Hater which I know people find annoying on here. As soon as April hits I start counting down to September! I hate the heat, the long days of light, the bugs, the clothes, the food, the pressure to ‘get out and enjoy it’. Walking my dog is a nightmare because he overheats unless I go very early or very late. Urgh.

SonicTheHodgeheg · 15/05/2024 14:29

I thought that this would be a baby names thread 😂

transformandriseup · 15/05/2024 14:30

Definitely not, the summer really helps my mental health.

SonicTheHodgeheg · 15/05/2024 14:30

I am a spring and autumn person and would happily skip summer if possible .

Aquarius1234 · 15/05/2024 14:31

The only thing about Summer I like is Wimbledon. Love that.
Then it's meh .

OP posts:
Twentypastfour · 15/05/2024 14:32

Why? There are weekends, the one bank holiday. Long evenings. Quick walk in the sun at lunch.

Aquarius1234 · 15/05/2024 14:32

It then gets ever so slightly darker and darker in the evenings.

Oh and August totally rubbish.

ScotttCheggg · 15/05/2024 14:33

Yep, full on Autumn / Winter lover here. I think I’d enjoy it if we had guaranteed sunshine, but it’s so unpredictable and actually, the heat makes me so sluggish.

When it hits June 21st, I’m on the countdown to those cold, dark evenings…!

I love it.

Caspianberg · 15/05/2024 14:36

Definitely like summer

Even if working we often spend every evening having dinner outside in summer. Weekends are much easier as can swim or hike locally. Ds has no childcare for 10 weeks (not uk), but it’s easier to open garden door and let him play, or arrange to meet people. We often eta dinner at home, then pop down to local gelato place around 7.30pm when cooler in July/ August.

It’s our busiest season work wise. But the days are much longer it still feels like more free time

Pipsquiggle · 15/05/2024 14:38

I don't like Summer either. I like weather around 20 to 23c

Anything above that, I would like air con

Magnalux · 15/05/2024 14:39

I work in secondary school in Ireland so I do get June, July and August off.. so yes I love it!

PrincessHoneysuckle · 15/05/2024 14:40

I love being off work for 6 weeks :)

lanya · 15/05/2024 14:41

YANBU. I find the hotter weather stressful both in terms of comfort and what to wear.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 15/05/2024 14:45

I bloody love summer.
Get up - it's daylight, can go out into the garden for a cup of tea and a wander. Come home from work, it's daylight for hours, can go out and visit people, have a walk, go for a meal and not feel as though I'm operating in some kind of twilight zone when I should be in bed. Can wear one layer of clothing and not have to think about what I can wear with what and how much to put over the top. Can eat light foods without my body craving bread and butter pudding constantly. My electricity bill doesn't have to cope with lights on all the time, heating, washing etc and stuff dries outside in a day. The dog isn't covered in mud all the time (usually, but that's weather rather than summer dependent). People are more cheerful.
Lots of other stuff, but these are the highlights.

PanicAttax · 15/05/2024 14:47

Definitely finding it less exciting as the years go on and I become less tolerant of the heat.

I do like the longer days though and the sun does cheer me up. I just don't want to be standing in it directly these days.

Suchardchoccy · 15/05/2024 14:50

The absolute WORST thing about summer is the insects, ESPECIALLY WASPS 😡
Don't get me wrong, I like the sunshine and the dry weather, it makes me feel so much better but the wasps ruin it. And anything about 20-23 degrees is uncomfortable in this country because you cannot escape it in the houses.

I like the long evenings and early mornings and try and make the most of them. A long walk on a local beach and stopping off for dinner or a drink afterwards feels a bit like a mini break after work.

But to be honest when it's nice outside and I'm at work I'm terrible...basically want to ask can we have lessons outside please? (I don't work in a school).
