Only 400 cals left for the rest of the day šŸ™ˆ

What can I have for dinner later?

I’m following my diet on My fitness pal, but for some reason went a bit over the top with my IKEA breakfast and it tells me I only have 400 calories left for the rest of the day.
I’m full and feeling quite gross, but I’m guessing I’ll be hungry at dinner later, what can I have? Simple omlette and salad?
Annoyed with myself, but they had a new chocolate, fudge cake and my Dd persuaded me, didn’t even feel good afterwards and cake isn’t even my thing!

I’d go lean chicken and steamed veg or
salad. Some days you go slightly over- chocolate cake will do that šŸ˜‚. If you end up 50 or 100 calories over just today I wouldn’t sweat it too much.

VestPantsandSocks · 15/05/2024 11:27

Banana is 90 calories
Protein yoghurt could be 80 calories depending on the brand.
Eggs are 50 calories each so two of those on toast might be dinner. 200 calories.

Might be enough to get you through the day?

VestPantsandSocks · 15/05/2024 11:28

Steamed veggies are filling and around 50 calories.

NewMe2024 · 15/05/2024 11:30

Get protein and veg in you. White fish and green veggies would be ideal, if enough calories a dollop of full fat Greek yoghurt would also help keep you full.

alternatively, a bowl of porridge with Greek yoghurt is a low calorie but filling option.

AngelicInnocent · 15/05/2024 11:31

Chicken and veg Soup and a yoghurt after

Rather than being starving all night and then fall off the wagon tomorrow then I'd just scrap today, eat a normal dinner and carry on tomorrow.

This! Wise advice.

Westfacing · 15/05/2024 11:34

What did you have for your IKEA breakfast, apart from chocolate fudge cake - just asking!

This! Any diet will be easier to maintain long term if it's flexible and adaptable rather than so rigid you're counting every single calorie every day.

Just have a sensible meal later.

Lemsipper · 15/05/2024 11:34

You could see it as a ā€œre-feedā€ day where you have purposefully higher calories to keep that metabolism boosted šŸ’šŸ½ā€ā™€ļø I do this often and I always lose weight quicker in the days following it.

Peaceandquiet9276 · 15/05/2024 11:45

If I want a lower calorie dinner I do a big stirfry of veg. Then maybe a mackarel fillet or some prawn with it and soy sauce.

rwa818 · 15/05/2024 11:48

Chicken breast and a big salad?

Jacket potato and cottage cheese?

Mushrooms and spinach on toast (one slice of toast)

I do similar with a 200g bag of cabbage greens - jazz it up with soy sauce, bit of chilli, and can of tuna mixed in. Very tasty and filling!

AtomicBlondeRose · 15/05/2024 11:54

If you’re full now, why are you worrying about being hungry later? Maybe just see how you feel then? Pre-worrying about hunger you haven’t felt yet is a bit diet brain-sounding. If you are hungry later, eat to meet those hunger needs as and when you feel them.

CandiedPrincess · 15/05/2024 11:55

Do some exercise and "earn" some more calories through exercise?

saltinesandcoffeecups · 15/05/2024 12:37

Honestly you’re giving it too much thought. Eat dinner. I average my calorie intake over the week to account for variations. Which allows me to be flexible and realistic with what I eat.

toomuchfaff · 15/05/2024 13:33

Protein especially fish will fill you up longer - combined with veggies/salad to bulk up.

Don't stress too much; calories don't work on a 24 hour time period. Your body doesn't do a calculation as the minute strikes 12 midnight and stop to tally up the fat loss for that day - that simply doesn't happen. Much better to calculate for the week (using the days to average out over that week). Even better would be to go and do some additional activity, a walk, a swim - and use some extra energy to use up the breakfast quicker than to reduce your evening meal to accommodate.

coxesorangepippin · 15/05/2024 13:33

Scrambled eggs, big bowl of lentil and veg soup

This is much the best advice. Definitely aim for the calorie allowance per day but look on it as a weekly thing so you might go "over" today -but you might be "under" tomorrow so it all evens out. Try to up your exercise if too. 😊

Work2live · 15/05/2024 13:40

Please don’t deprive yourself later on or use exercise as a way to ā€˜gain back’ calories.

I don’t stick rigidly to my calories and I try to view them as a weekly thing rather than a daily thing. Some days I’ll eat around 1700 cals, some days I’ll eat around 2300.

Honestly, life is too short to worry about it and I say that with kindness, as someone who once tortured myself if I went a couple over my MyFitnessPal target!

Mintearo7 · 15/05/2024 13:40

Grilled chicken with some piri sauce or something, lots of steamed veg, a bit of cous cous or rice. Personally I would eat a 500 - 550 cal meal and adjust down 150 cals tomorrow either through less food or an extra workout. I know people say eat a normal meal and start again tomorrow but I have to adjust day to day as I’m short and need to track these things to see progress with weight loss.

TooTiredToDealWithThis · 15/05/2024 13:45

I'm confused by this idea. Porridge WITH greek yoghurt? Like, cold yoghurt mixed through hot porridge?

Inikeaagain · 15/05/2024 13:47

@Westfacing I had 3 mini croissants, 2 slices of cheese and a small omlette thing, the cake made up such a large amount 😩

Jacket potato with a bit of butter and a little bit off cheese.
