Only 400 cals left for the rest of the day šŸ™ˆ

What can I have for dinner later?

I’m following my diet on My fitness pal, but for some reason went a bit over the top with my IKEA breakfast and it tells me I only have 400 calories left for the rest of the day.
I’m full and feeling quite gross, but I’m guessing I’ll be hungry at dinner later, what can I have? Simple omlette and salad?
Annoyed with myself, but they had a new chocolate, fudge cake and my Dd persuaded me, didn’t even feel good afterwards and cake isn’t even my thing!

Three egg omelette with spray oil, bit of grated cheese, portion of baked beans you can have for 400 calories. As it's about >30g protein and 8g fibre that combination should be quite satisfying.

Anything with protein & fibre really - protein on its own doesn't cut it for me.

Other things I find satisfying for about 400 calories are things like chicken and lentil salad - made with a cooked chicken breast and half a sachet of lentils or grains plus salad veg.

Or a vegetable and bean soup. Even with a bit of pasta in, I can make a minestrone for about 400 calories a portion. Or skip the pasta and have some bread to dip in.

Yeah a jacket would be good, even with a filling like prawn & marie rose and with a green salad I could get it under 400 cals as long as the potato isn't too big and you don't put a ton of butter on it.

4 boiled eggs and go to bed 🤣🤣

Dont faff with a tiny piece of chicken- the eggs will fill you up. Drink loads of water.

Prawns are only 70 calories for 100g, and yet they have 15g protein. Light mayonnaise 46 calories a tablespoon.

@Westfacing I had 3 mini croissants, 2 slices of cheese and a small omlette thing, the cake made up such a large amount 😩

Pastry.... stay away from pastry

When I'm in this position, I've realised it is more important for me to manage coming off the sugar high and getting back into the mindset of nutritious eating than it is focussing on the calories. If I focus on the calories, I am likely to be starving mid-afternoon or early evening (depending on when I planned on eating the remaining calories), think sod it and destroy whatever food is in the cupboards and that is when I really do the damage in terms of calorie intake as, when I'm that hungry, I struggle to stop. Therefore, I'd focus on having two sensible meals with a lot of green veg (as that is the best counter to sugar for me) some protein and fibre making sure I controlled the calories but not making them the overriding factor. Then I'd start afresh tomorrow and try and make a different decision next time I'm in this position whilst recognising that sometimes the calories are totally worth it

Warburtons wholemeal no added sugar loaf is 55 cals per slice. I'd have two of those toasted, with two small poached eggs - 230 cals - with loads of lettuce, cucumber, radishes, sliced tomato and grated carrot salad with some fresh herbs. That's about another 70 cals to then you have 100 cals for several cups of tea with milk or a piece of fruit or some Skyr with frozen berries.

TerroristToddler · 15/05/2024 16:33

I'm also calorie counting and my dinner is usually 400-500cals.

Tonights dinner is 1/2 tub of Yorkshire Provender morrocan tagine soup (189 cals - really quite filling due to the lentils and lots of veg), slice of sourdough on the side (110 cals) and a bowl of fruit for pudding (~60 cals - strawberries, blueberries and grapes).

Workawayxx · 15/05/2024 16:50

I'd go with:
100g chicken breast (165 cals)
1/2 pack microrice (168 cals)
Loads of chopped veg or pack stirfry veg (say 50 cals)
Lots of soy sauce, garlic, ginger, chilli, lime juice (negligible)

All stir fried together.

Although I also think good plan to just eat whatever would be a normal dinner for you and see it as a one off rather than starve yourself.

Don't worry about it. I'm in a similar position today having had a really nice lunch out. Only had a main and sparkling water but way more calories than normal. Decided to have a bit of wine tonight and go back to it tomorrow. I've learned that that bigger meal today, or a couple of glasses of wine, are going to make absolutely no difference to my weight. Go and have a walk if you must but goodness, just enjoy the cake and don't sweat over it!

Peaceandquiet9276 · 15/05/2024 17:38

You won’t put on weight for eating one bad meal just like you won’t lose weight for eating one salad. šŸ˜€

My fitness pal calculates daily calorie recommendations wrongly. If you put your details into a different calculator you will see you a different figure.

rainbowunicorn · 15/05/2024 18:09

Just eat a normal dinner. It will be fine. Maybe instead of a set number of calories per day do it per week. That way you can even it out much more easily. Either that or have 50 less calories a day for the next week which would cover it.

PoppyCherryDog · 15/05/2024 19:15

Can you exercise or link your step count into my fitness pal? That’s what I do when I use up my allowance for the day too quickly.

Inikeaagain · 15/05/2024 21:44

Thanks all, I had a bowl of crunchy muesli and felt ok, but that was around 5 hours ago and now lay in bed hungry, but trying to ignore it! That’s my downfall, being hungry/eating in the evening, never really hungry in the morning, so there was really not much point to that ikea breakfast

Don't beat yourself up about it, just start again tomorrow with a fresh healthy breakfast ā˜ŗļø

I've never heard that idea before. It's so simple and so brilliant. If you are hungrier some days, eat more calories and fewer when you aren't, so long as the week's intake adds up to a deficit. Can't work out why I've never thought of that before.

Salmon fillet baked in a parcel with vegetables and some brown rice.
