Sexual assault during hotel stay

Tripadvisornotloading · 14/05/2024 19:09

Myself and 3 friends booked a spa night at a popular hotel on the Wirral.
A drugged up strange man broke into one of the rooms during the night and got into a bed with one of the young ladies and sexually assaulted her, we were subsequently all traumatised and extremely upset. We were up with police most of the night giving statements, the doors on the rooms were different and one automatically locked, so we’ve assumed the other did - it didn’t as it wasn’t a fire door. We spent most of the time in the bigger room (with the fire door) getting ready etc as a group so had gotten used to the door slamming locked.
Anyway, during the night and next morning the reception assured us both rooms would be free of charge. We had already paid for lunch, dinner and drinks as and when purchasing. We spent a considerable amount in the short amount of time we were there.
Then as the lead guest on the booking I contacted the hotel the following Monday to ask guest relations to call me - I just wanted to clarify - as directed by reception staff - whether there was a key card used to enter the room or if the door was faulty, I didn’t put any information within the email; just that I would like management to give me a call.
I got a rude email back, not asking about the welfare of the assaulted party or other traumatised guests but demanding payment for the rooms - the ones we had been told were free of charge.
I then get further threats of taking me to a debt collection agency and pay the bill in full for both rooms.
Now 7 months down the line I get an email from
TripAdvisor asking for a review, I post a review stating what happened and how the management l/guest relations have responded and treated us and the management have said it’s completely inaccurate and they’ve only asked for payment for food and drinks! I’m absolutely raging! I’ve tried to edit my review to include the screenshots of emails stating the exact amount in question is for the 2 rooms but it won’t let me edit my review, I’ve then tried to post another review to back up the initial review and it’s only bringing my camera roll up to post from earlier today, I’ve deleted and redownloaded the app etc to no avail - I can’t get them posted to back up my version of events

When?

It says "We were up with police most of the night giving statements"

cerisepanther73 · 14/05/2024 19:43

@longdistanceclaraclara

Are you a barrister in law or training to be then
or a
psychologist then?

Miss perfectist then?

As i find your judgemental comment very weird and rather tad irritating too,

Whats up with certain people talking like an Arsehole 💩 on here,
🤔 questioning an op mumsnet thread about her style of writing then,
when she is stating her concern about her friend has been sexually assaulted then?

HoHoHoliday · 14/05/2024 19:44

It's an awful experience, certainly.
But what is your AIBU? What are you asking us?

If I was you, and I expect the police would agree, I'd remove the trip adviser review altogether, as writing about the incident publicly may compromise any future conviction if they find the perpetrator.

Just checked and it doesn't.

I'm in the industry and know some gm's who are appalling.

Firstly if part of a large chain, for instance Hilton, IHG (holiday inn), Marriott - go to their customer service as they'll take it very seriously if one of their franchise partners are bringing their brand into disrepute.

If no luck there then have one of the other guest who travelled with you write a separate trip advisor review with the screenshot if what your after is revenge.

However I'm very surprised they offered 100% because it could be seen as an admittance of fault for something extremely serious which should have only been dealt with through police.

Thankyou.
My frustration now is at being called a liar on a factual review and being unable to prove that my account is honest and factual and all services and rooms were paid for in full, which I can easily prove but the trip advisor system is complicated to use for a technophobe 🥲 it’s like salt in the wounds being called a liar ontop of the already distressing situation

It was a ‘AIBU wanting to prove my integrity on trip advisor as the GM has made me look like I’ve written a spiteful review full of lies when I have the proof and should I continue to try and post the evidence’ and was hoping someone with better knowledge of trip advisor could maybe help me understand how.
Thankyou for your commment.
The perpetrator was arrested at the scene, he was later charged and has already appeared to make his plea.
He had gotten married that day 😳 his bride appeared at some point. Such a strange story I’ll no doubt be called a liar on MN but I would be surprised if the court case doesn’t end up in the local papers anyway at some point.

I don't think trip advisor is the place for the argument. Your writing style is very odd.

What argument?
I tried to keep the necessary facts all in whilst keeping it as brief as I could. It’s mumsnet post, not a novel

Trip advisor probably won't publish your second review about the same incident and you can't edit current reviews once they've been responded to (I don't believe).

Shocking that it happened. The hotel let you down massively. I hope the man was arrested and your friend is recovering.

Thankyou.
Yes he has already appeared in court.

That is awful, if only your recent photos are showing up, maybe screenshot the original photo so that its one of your more recent pictures

Sorry I may not of worded it clearly, only pictures from earlier today and older are there, anything from around 2pm onwards won’t load on my camera roll, screen shots or favourites 😖

Odd post.

StormingNorman · 14/05/2024 19:24

The hotel sounds like they handled it really badly but you should focus on your friend and presumably the court case.

The Trip Advisor stuff is petty bullshit.

I am trying to give accurate representation of our stay there, the hotel has incorrect doors fitted which is a serious safety concern particularly for vulnerable guests. I wouldn’t have booked it had I of seen a review pointing that out. I, as a young (ish) female take safety very importantly when it comes to booking hotels

Last resort- create a second account

I had 2 accounts by mistake

One I'd created on the app and one I'd created on a desktop having forgotten I'd already done it On the app. Obviously you'll end up with 2 user accounts but heyho. Then you can add a second review for that hotel and copy paste the text and add your important pics.
If this is v important to you.

Would you mind letting me know which hotel it was? I am a local person.

Its in Thornton Hough and has a spa and hosts numerous weddings

If leaving a review is important to you then do a Google review and mention that they accused you of lying in your Trip Advisor review so you're including screen shots.

Then send them an email linking to your new review so they know they haven't got away with it! What absolute wankers they are. I'd be furious.

LostittoBostik · 14/05/2024 20:11

@Terrribletwos Erm, it very clearly does. Read it again, slowly.

This is really good advice, thankyou.
Its because the seriousness of the situation that him accusing me of lying on the review has really felt like he’s rubbing salt in the wounds.
We and the police have video evidence from one of our quick thinking friends phones of him in just boxies screaming at us saying he’s going to kill us all whilst being physically removed from the room by staff so having the hotel on side isn’t a concern. He had also stuffed wet tissue in the peep holes of the door and had cocaine all over his face/ the bathroom. He had been in the room an unknown amount of time before my friend had realised as she had a nytol and went to bed so was drowsy. She assumed anyone moving around the dark room was our other friend who was staying in the other bed. The hotel staff had already made their statements on the night, the staff we actually can not fault, it’s the management and whoever is responsible for ensuring the correct doors were in place that I feel owe us a huge apology and acknowledgment of their wrongdoings.

If it's part of a chain it might have a parent company and you can reach out to them too.

Do you know if it's a boutique hotel or part of a bigger group? It would almost definitely say this in the fine print of the website.

KarenSmithsWeatherBoobs · 14/05/2024 20:26

A quick google took me straight to the review and the hotel's response.

OP, have you taken a screenshot of that response on Trip Advisor and sent to it whoever is harassing you for the full amount?

Hi @Tripadvisornotloading i read your post on the TripAdvisor website.

I don’t know if you’re receptive to feedback on the post itself but I worry it doesn’t really convey the urgency of what you’ve posted on here.

Interesting that the GM has had a recollections may vary issue with at least one other guest as well

There are a good number of recent poor reviews I see

It’s all been paid in full when I was threatened with debt collectors.
I just wanted to convey a fair review given the negligence of the hotel resulting in such a horrendous experience, then the lack of after care and then just outright rudeness. They wouldn’t even ring me when I queried the bill. Refused to speak via phone just email then refused any further discussion.
Ive emailed the guest relations manager that I’ve had correspondence with and basically said that ‘manager who responded to review is a liar’ I included a screenshot of our previous emails where she has asked for £267 for 2 rooms - the amount he is trying to insinuate is for food and drinks.
I can and will go back through historical credit card bills to prove this as I paid for food and drinks on my credit card on the night and my friends transferred their shares over to me afterwards as this was easier, just the £267 for two rooms was easy to find as it was on a different card and I was able to search the exact amount as stated was for 2 bedrooms in guest relations email chasing me for it.

Thanks for your comments.
i wasn’t out for blood earlier when i made the original review, I was just wanting to offer genuine feedback for people reading reviews but after being called a liar by the manager I won’t stop now.
One of our friends is a solicitor and asked us to speak to her firm at the time but we were all just so shaken we didn’t, fortunately we’ve taken photographic and video evidence of the doors etc.
Alls It would’ve taken to avoid any bad taste was to waiver the room cost which was a fraction of what we spent on food and drink whilst there and give us a call to check on how we all were, it’s just been handled appallingly. At the end of the day the management didn’t fit the doors so had they of just been respectful to us after everything we would just leave it but I’ll be taking this further now.
I do wonder how some people get into guest relations and management when they’re so rude.

When I did a review on TA and the company questioned its integrity, TA got in touch to ask for proof. I then sent the a pic of the invoice that proved it was a genuine experience and the put the status as ‘verified’ or something. You might find TA contact you directly to prove it anyway.

So sorry you went through this. The hotel should be ashamed. The very minimal standard is a bloody locking door!!
