Boss comes in and finishes the office milk off

I know it seems petty but I am unreasonable to get annoyed at this behaviour? We get milk delivered a couple of times week (paid for by the company). Without fail my boss will finish off the last pint making a frothy cappuccino when they arrive leaving the rest without - the amount of milk would last the rest of the office the rest of the working day. I just think its really rude when they could make an americano style one with less milk or a tea and leave some for others before someone can go to the shop. First world problems I know I should just let it go

Selfish gitt! YADNBU!

Ilovemyshed · 13/05/2024 10:19

So point it out that there is insufficient milk and increase the order?

BIossomtoes · 13/05/2024 10:20

Ridiculous. You might have a point if you paid for the milk.

LostRider · 13/05/2024 10:21

The system is slightly improved as the staff used to buy it in for the boss to do the same, so its now paid for by the company, and we have increased the milk order twice. 2 cappuccinos just uses alot of milk

That would seem by far the simplest solution. I couldn’t get worked up about it as it’s easy enough to solve without anyone not getting the drinks they want. If I wanted an latte or a cappuccino then a flat white or americano with cold milk wouldn’t hit the mark!

Yellowhammer09 · 13/05/2024 10:23

Increase the order of milk again. Two cappuccinos is a lot of milk compared to an instant coffee, but it's also really not much milk at all.

drusth · 13/05/2024 10:27

YANBU. Could you put a note on the fridge saying please be considerate on milk usage and do not use for cereal or milk based drinks?

SonicTheHodgeheg · 13/05/2024 10:31

Just increase the order again. I don’t think that making a cappuccino is unreasonable - are there no cereal eaters who will be using more milk? I sympathise with the annoying realisation that there’s no milk for your coffee or tea and that if the boss finished the pint then he could have said something but maybe he doesn’t get a full mug himself when he finishes the carton ?

Haydenn · 13/05/2024 10:32

Just order more.

LostRider · 13/05/2024 10:34

Good point perhaps Im getting annoyed at the wrong thing - not that it was used but surplus should be ordered to avoid running out. If only there was a loo roll delivery man also which this issue slips over into..

Does he use too much loo roll too?

Maybe he’s lactose intolerant!

LostRider · 13/05/2024 10:35

No the loo roll is finished off without telling anyone, I personally panic at my last 2 rolls at home and manage to never run out

have you tried to stop the boss or at least explained, there is no more milk?

The don’t use for cereal message used to really wind me up. I don’t have milk in tea or coffee, so what I would have on my cereal would be no more than a coffee drinker would have in a day. But no I was expected to buy my own- irritating enough…but the amount of occasions a tea drinker would then expect to be able to take just a “splash” of my milk when the work supply had run low or the Monday delivery hadn’t arrived yet.

Just up the order and let everyone have what they want. It’s too cheap for a business to upset staff over

thecatsthecats · 13/05/2024 10:37

I think cracking on with using ALL of the milk knowing that others will the not have any unless they go out and pay for it themselves is unreasonable.

And cereal eaters are verging on CF territory if everyone else is just using a bit for drinks and they're regularly using it for meals.

This exactly! I dont understand the tightness because its a ridiculous / basic thing to repeatedly run out of, never worked anywhere else with this issue

If it is your job to order this stuff in them it's poor planning on your part.

If it isn't your job then you should tell the person who does the orders how much milk and toilet roll needs to be ordered and the frequencies with why.

TequilaNights · 13/05/2024 10:40

It just means the office isn't ordering enough milk, I'm sure there are serial tea/coffee drinkers that use a lot of milk too, just in smaller quantities, but over a lot more cups.

Add an extra 4 pints, problem solved.

In our office there is always an abundance of milk so people use it for cereal too. I use it for milky hot chocolate a lot.

But if the office only buys limited milk then I think it makes sense to prioritise it for tea/coffee, not cereal, as you could have cereal at home.

That's terrible that people use your milk! Did you tell them no?

Yes, isn't there a cupboard which can be stocked up with loo roll?

SonicTheHodgeheg · 13/05/2024 10:42

Our office gets a supermarket delivery so milk and loo roll arrive together. It’s a small office so it works well.

AlisonDonut · 13/05/2024 10:43

Why are people having cereal at work?

I think long slow trips to the shop to get more milk, with loads of people shouting 'where's the milk', 'X has had to go get more', 'Why is that then?', 'All used up when we got here' with a few 'If this keeps happening, shouldn't we just increase the milk order or something, to save time and effort' might get the message across if you can't just tell him to get more bloody milk in.

Asked them not to, labelled it, all sorts. But they’d just take it and when challenged would say “it’s just a splash” or just a little. By time the milk delivery arrived midway through a Monday morning I could be over half way through a 2 pint carton that should have lasted me a week.

They were ignorant twats if they didn't realise everyone using a splash soon means the carton depletes.

I can see why you found them annoying.

I change my mind, you should have got in early and had a massive bowl of cereal Grin

CheeseSandwichRiskAssessment · 13/05/2024 10:47

How can people be fighting about this, doesn't milk cost about a quid per litre ?
