Who blows the Candles out in your House?

saveusername111 · 12/05/2024 22:55

Light hearted conversation between Me and DH.

I say, whoever goes to Bed last blows them out. (Him)

He says, whoever lit them blows them out before going to Bed. (Me)

Thoughts?

last to bed settles the house down. Candles out, doors locked, teeth, kiss, zzzz

TheThoughtfulCandlemaker · 12/05/2024 23:34

Last person to bed

Bbq1 · 12/05/2024 23:44

Me because i lit them

SwedishKvinnaboske · 12/05/2024 23:51

I saw the title and was imagining somebody like Competitive Dad on The Fast Show insisting on demonstratively blowing out the candles on the cake himself, as it's the only way that 3yo-today Toby will ever learn how to do it properly Grin

I suppose it also makes a big difference whether the candles or for decorative purposes only, or whether you live in a house without electricity/a power cut. If the latter, it seems very mean and controlling to insist that the other person sit in the dark from whenever you decide to go to bed.

DramaAlpaca · 13/05/2024 00:02

We don't tend to do candles, but if we did it would be last one to bed blows them out.

Topseyt123 · 13/05/2024 00:10

We don't do candles because they are such a horrendous fire hazard. Not worth the risk.

Just blow the fuckers out. I could never sleep knowing that someone might have left them lit.

JoniBlue · 13/05/2024 00:13

I do. I am the one who burns them. (Snuffed out though, after blowing wax on the wall one time.)

AnnieSF · 13/05/2024 00:27

Last out of the room where they are lit.

LauderSyme · 13/05/2024 00:41

I do like that pungent just-extinguished aroma of a snuffed candle.

Am smiling at the thought that blowing out a candle is 'work'.

Shitlord · 13/05/2024 00:49

Me usually, it was my idea to have the fuckers and DP wasn't used to factoring them into a check of things being locked/turned off ex so I came down to them still burning once or twice in the morning. I reminded him to please check in case I forget but ive created the task so just do it.

TyneTeas · 13/05/2024 01:07

Whoever lit them should

However last to bed should check as part of normal going to bed checks of doors locked etc

Last one to bed. And we have a candle snuffer.

So what do you make of this newfangled “electricity” everyone’s jawing on and on about down at the club?

Nay, it'll never catch on

Cas112 · 13/05/2024 11:40

Last to be in my house, I always light them but my partner isn't petty enough to whinge about blowing them out if he's the last one to bed

KreedKafer · 13/05/2024 11:42

Last to bed, I'd say. If someone puts a light on or switches on the telly, I don't expect them to have to be the person who turns it off again.

However, in my house the person last to bed is usually also the person who lit the candles (me) so I don't think the debate would ever arise.

GasPanic · 13/05/2024 11:44

No one because we don't have them. Not only are they a fire hazard they pump nasty crap into the atmosphere which you breathe in.

saveforthat · 13/05/2024 11:45

I have a snuffer but I find more and more wax builds up on the snuffer so that it gets so big it doesn't fit in the top of the candle to snuff it (wide pillar candles, not thin tapered candles). So this creates another cleaning chore (cleaning the snuffer). So we just blow them out. We almost always go to bed together so both do the candle/locks routine.

NeverEnoughPants · 13/05/2024 11:48

If the person last to bed isn't bothered about candles and doesn't want to snuff them out, then it should 100% be the person that lit them.

5YearsLeft · 13/05/2024 12:04

Shitlord · 13/05/2024 11:37

Aye, of course you’re correct. Much too dangerous and expensive. I find this hard to believe but one gentleman, admittedly he’d had a skinful, said people could even one day be in DEBT to pay for this electricity! This just must be destabilising nonsense!

CowboyJoanna · 22/11/2024 17:27

Usually its whoever lit them (me) but as a rule of thumb its the last person to leave the room. But we dont actually blow the candles, i use a wick dipper because it preserves the lifespan of them Smile

Then i put a lid on it because I HATE the smell of blown candles Envy

SushiWrap · 22/11/2024 17:28

Last to bed. But if I lit the candle and was going to bed, I'd point it out to DH.

SoupDragon · 22/11/2024 17:30

GasPanic · 13/05/2024 11:44

If you're worried about pumping crap into the atmosphere, I assume you don't drive then.

sweeneytoddsrazor · 12/05/2024 23:03

Well I was going to say whoever is the birthday person.....

Its nearly 2025 nobody does blowing out birthday candles anymore

PictureItSicily · 22/11/2024 17:37

I’m the only one lighting candles in my house so I’m the one taking responsibility for them. I’ll either blow them out or make sure DH knows they’re still lit. He probably wouldn’t notice them himself.

LisaD1 · 22/11/2024 17:38

Is it really that hard work?

in our house it’s whoever is last to bed, that person locks up, gives the dogs their bedtime biscuit and blows out the candles.
