To ask how much you spend on holidays per year?

I haven't been abroad in years and a bit shocked after seeing the prices these days. Even a week in a nearby European country is expensive on a budget airline.

I have family members who take 4-5 holidays/trips a year and they must be spending a fortune!

Only the two of us. Never took holidays in our 20/30s so now when we travel we upgrade as much as we can. £12k on 3 holidays per year including a trip abroad.

WhamBamThankU · 12/05/2024 18:36

I usually do two or three uk holidays a year and spend about £2k on them (not including food/drink/activities/petrol etc) but came into some (guilt) money from my estranged father last year and have splashed out on the Caribbean for this year. £7k for 3 adults & 2 kids 2 weeks all inclusive. Be back to North Yorkshire for October half term 😅

JamSandle · 12/05/2024 18:36

Probably too much!

Neurodiversitydoctor · 12/05/2024 18:37

4 of us DS is an adult.
In the last year ;
Week in Wales - £900
France in February (Drove) £4,000 ?
USA at easter £4,000

So roughly £10,000 a year for 3 trips 4 people I don't think that's bad. I am a bargain hunter.

DutchCowgirl · 12/05/2024 18:38

I love holidays, but i don’t like flying. So most of the time we travel by car and that makes it cheaper (when traveling with kids during school holidays).
We go abroad 4 times a year. Sometimes for 4k and sometimes for 10k.

AgentJohnson · 12/05/2024 18:45

I spent 4,000 euros last year and it’s why I’m only visiting London (home) year, plus I upgraded my kitchen. Next year will probably be 5,000 euros. Staycations aren’t my thing because compared to my favourite places on the planet to travel, they don’t represent the best value. I’d rather save up and go somewhere I’d want to go then go for the sake of going somewhere.

July 1 week self catering apartment in southern Europe 1k plus flights for 4 people 600 then spending money for a week

beachsandseaicecream · 12/05/2024 18:51

We go away 5 or 6 times a year, a mixture of UK and Europe. Two adults and a primary age child. Probably spend £12-15k a year.

Sprogonthetyne · 12/05/2024 18:52

Usually £1000-1500, for a week in a European country. Something like eurocamp (or similar) cabin, flights, car hire & food for a family of four. Either once or twice a year, depending on if we have other costs like car/home repairs that year.

Youdontevengohere · 12/05/2024 18:54

We have close relatives abroad so we have 2 weeks in a lovely country in July for £1000 for the 5 of us (£550 flights, £450 car hire). We have a week in an air bnb in Devon in August which is costing £1.5k. A long weekend in a European city in October is £1k (flights and accommodation) and £1k for winter wonderland at center parcs in December. That’s probably about our standard annual holiday spend… £4k-£5k. Which is a lot less than the majority of our friends.

jobessieandme · 12/05/2024 18:54

Probably about £6k a year.

Last year we blew it all on a week all inclusive in Greece.

This year we're doing Centerparcs for 4 nights and a week in Devon later in the year. That's working out at the same amount!

Notimeforaname · 12/05/2024 18:54

I went to spain for a week for £300 that was spending money as well.
Jesus, how did you manage?

BeaRF75 · 12/05/2024 18:59

I have no idea, because my husband pays for some and I pay for some - and I don't monitor his spending. We usually do DIY trips, so the costs are in various chunks. But, as a change, we have just booked a 7 night package to Mallorca for September, 4 star hotel, B&B, and that was about £3,000. Obviously there'll be meals, local transport and a few other things, but it seemed a fairly standard price - we have been known to spend more on hotels, for sure.

everlastingpanini · 12/05/2024 19:03

I can tell you exactly for the past 12 months.

  1. Trip to Jersey May half term- 2 adults and 2 Dcs- 5 days- about £1200
  2. Trip to Cyprus package holiday 11 days - £3100
  3. Trip to Germany Easter 2024 5 days - £2100

This is about middle range- not on the cheap but also not expensive.

We would usually do one summer trip per year plus one half term trip but last year I worked 6 weeks serious overtime due to a colleague going off sick and was paid for it (which i had to argue about because my workplace tried to make me do it without extra) and so we did the extra Germany trip.

Nmchnger · 12/05/2024 19:05

£2700 for flights and 8 nights accommodation in New York (going for 12 but staying with a mate for part of it), just me going. I'll be taking £3000 spending money. Prices have risen dramatically since I was there a couple of years ago. This is my only holiday this year.

Temushopper · 12/05/2024 19:08

We put aside £1,500 a month for holidays, Christmas & birthdays. How we split it varies and for bigger holidays we will save a bit one year and spend more the next. It’s an easy thing to spend a lot on.

bluebunny1 · 12/05/2024 19:08

About €20k per year—covers c. 8 weeks of holidays, a mixture of long haul, Europe and UK. Used to be around €10k 5 years ago for similar amount of travel.

Elebag · 12/05/2024 19:10

£0. We stay with family in the UK.

My dc's have been away with school though.

ZenNudist · 12/05/2024 19:11

£22k this year, 3 family holidays abroad: 7 days, 9 days, 8 days and a 5 day couple break,. Plus a school trip for the eldest for 10 days.

Not counting short UK breaks. Nothing fancy really. No long haul, all Europe.

ZenNudist · 12/05/2024 19:12

Are people counting spending money when there? I always think of the whole holiday costs.

everlastingpanini · 12/05/2024 19:13

I dont count spending money because we tend to roughly spend the same as when at home - self catering and the odd bistro etc.

thanKyouaIMee · 12/05/2024 19:14

More than the average annual salary of someone in the UK!

We've got four weeks abroad spread across the year, and 5 long weekend breaks booked. It's looking to be an exciting year!

everlastingpanini · 12/05/2024 19:15

Also- I don't count travel insurance and pet accommodation (although I ought) - pets are £20 a day (2 cats) and travel insurance is circa £500 total a year multi trip as I and one DS have chronic illnesses.

Deliberationdivinationdesperation · 12/05/2024 19:18

Last year we went on a 'big' holiday and spent £6k for 10 days for 2 adults and one 1yo, we only had breakfast included in the hotel so ate lunch and dinner out each day (I'm not a fan of AI tbh)

The year before we went for a week in Europe half board with 2 adults and a 7month old and I think that was £2k or maybe a bit less

I don't think we're going away this year

FoodieToo · 12/05/2024 19:19

About 30k ( euro ) but our 'kids' are all older and there are 7 of us now .
