To think it’s perfectly fine to eat food that fell in the sink?

Washing some berries over the sink. One dropped. I picked it up and ate it, zero hesitation. My friend who was round at the time saw me and was horrified and claims sinks are the germiest place ever. I think berries could come from anywhere, so surely no harm done?

No harm at all, you friend on the other hand lol

Queenfierce · 11/05/2024 22:27

Don't see a issue with it

I was beginning to question if my standards had dropped! 😂

Would have thought most people clean around their sink regularly 🤷‍♀️ - definitely fine.

I don’t think ours has been cleaned since Thursday unless DH has done it since. I’ve been puzzled about why my friend would think it was bad all day though, especially something like berries?

Riverlee · 11/05/2024 22:33

I would have eaten it, unless it had fallen in a bowl of soapy water.

NotOnnMyWatch · 11/05/2024 22:34

Your friend’s right, sinks are full of bacteria!

Mum2jenny · 11/05/2024 22:34

I guess it does depend on what you’ve washed in the sink.
Things like dirty footwear, raw chicken, filthy plant pots would not be a good idea unless you’d cleaned the sink afterwards, prior to the berries falling into said sink.

Veggie household. Sink cleaned two days ago. We’ve had dinner at a friends, takeaway, sandwiches & breakfast stuff in that time so really minimal use

So sink was nice and clean, I’d have eaten the berries.

All health! We have to get the body used to the bacteria😁

I always worry I’ll pop it in my mouth and it will taste like Fairy!

What does Fairy taste like? Is it good?

CantSeeTheDifference · 11/05/2024 22:51

Of course it's fine Confused. Honestly, I wonder how some people get through life being this pernickety.

CJ0374 · 11/05/2024 22:52

I'm usually fairly lax, but no, I wouldn't have eaten something from the sink. Today I scrubbed a celeriac covered in soil and had kitchen roll which was covered in raw chicken juice in the sink. Not to mention washing hands and things being tipped into the sink. Unless I'd just bleached the bowl, I wouldn't eat something from it 😬

I believe sinks are fine but not plastic washing up bowls. I mean people do the washing up in sinks so how does that work if they're full of bacteria?

Caswallonthefox · 11/05/2024 22:52

I would do the same, unless it went into washing up water. Fairy liquid as a flavour does not appeal

SantaBarbaraMonica · 11/05/2024 22:54

Just eat the bloody bacteria. Who cares! The vast vast majority of bacteria does no harm and plenty does good. People are so precious!!

AdoraBell · 11/05/2024 22:54

As long as the sink was clean no problem, I always rinse anything that drops in the sink.

I’m pregnant, that’s one of the reasons my friend told me I needed to be ‘extra careful’. I felt guilty all afternoon as I never would’ve given it a second thought otherwise, and maybe I should

It’s not even have as gross as letting some guy ejeculate in her vagina. Or worse, mouth.

How these people function with that level of anxiety around ‘bacteria’ amazes me.

Your friend needs to get a grip. You can't live your life worrying about every single menial thing, pregnant or not. Just continue to use your common sense and pay her no attention.

You rinse the soap (and dirt) off the plates

Agree it’s less bad if it’s a metal sink that’s been properly cleaned and rinsed
