First saw it here, but not in recent times.

Oh do fuck off dear

Well I don't know either......

Womblealongwithme · 12/05/2024 10:32

Yes it was definitely allowed.

Womblealongwithme · 12/05/2024 10:35

Things are very different here from 20 years ago. You could say much more and not be deleted but if you fart in the wrong direction how, your post gets deleted it seems. X

L1ttledrummergirl · 12/05/2024 11:13

It was quite often
ODFOD, nethuns ➡️

StormingNorman · 12/05/2024 12:37

And I’ve been deleted for telling a poster to ODFOD. The joke was obviously lost on someone.

I was deleted once for saying I heard all a poster’s posts in Boris Johnson’s voice. 😂

ThreeEggOmlette · 11/05/2024 18:10

You're allowed to think it.

But 'Oh bore off' is the accepted form.

I always think the Oh bore off response makes the poster seem quite boorish. The type to get in a pub brawl.

I much prefer ODFOD. At least there’s humour in it.

DirtyKit · 12/05/2024 12:41

@StormingNorman that’s hilarious.
they’ve not responded to my request for a comment though.

when I first came here c10 years ago posters talked about how it had changed then and I couldn’t understand how a site could change. People are just people after all.
now I understand and think it’s a shame. It’s not as forthright and honest a place as it used to be.

Welcome to mumsnet

You've never been allowed to swear at people on mn.
You can swear all you fucking want, and you can say you're fucked off, that you like being fucked, that it's fucking ridiculous, that you disagree with every fucking thing some one has written. But you can't tell them to fuck off or to go fuck themselves.

Pinkywoo · 12/05/2024 12:50

Allfur · 11/05/2024 18:13

When is it justified to tell a stranger to fuck off

When they're being a twat?

That's so funny 😁

I wonder if Boris Johnson knows that being compared to him is seen as a personal attack? Not that he'd be likely to have any insight as to why...

Edited

I know. It made me laugh at the time.

LauderSyme · 12/05/2024 13:03

I have always liked odfod and fottfsofatfosm [fottfsof and then fuck off some more]. Am also a fan of "Behold my barren field of fucks to give". I think it's the inspiration for someone's username. Hi friend! 🤗

Maybe MN is aware of the toxic cesspittery that is the modern internet in a way that it wasn't 10 or more years ago, what with Donald Trump and Elon Musk's 'helpful' interventions, amongst others.

Maybe that's why it - or it's advertisers - push back more these days? Or maybe it has more money now to employ more moderators.

BIossomtoes · 12/05/2024 13:14

I’m inclined to think it’s more a policy of automatic deletion if a post’s reported. I’ve seen other deletions just as ridiculous as my Boris one.

Jux · 12/05/2024 13:16

For many years we could say almost anything to anyone, on here, without repercussions except from other posters, so the site tended to police itself. Then along came AIBU and a massive swelling in user numbers and HQ had to start laying down rules.

If enough people complain about the use of ODFOD then I guess it gets disallowed. Same with any of them - I wonder if FOTTFSOFAWYGTFOSM is allowed, or TMDNCOP (can't remember that obe too well, but you get my drift).

gocompare · 12/05/2024 13:29

I remember it. Haven't seen it for ages though. Dont know whether it was allowed or not.

mondaytosunday · 12/05/2024 13:33

I don't think I've ever seen that. But 'Fuck off' I've seen for sure.
