Accidentally lied to friend about holiday

WildBeaker · 10/05/2024 10:03

I came back to work yesterday after going on holiday to Las Vegas last week. My friend asked me how it was and asked if I went to the Grand Canyon. I wasn’t really focusing, had a mind slip and said yes even though I didn’t go. She started talking about the different parts of the canyon and I thought it would’ve been weird to backtrack so I just nodded along. She suggested to pop round to mine to see our photos/videos over the weekend and I’m panicking because obviously I won’t have any of the Grand Canyon and if she finds out I never went that will be so embarrassing. I’m wondering whether to say I forgot the camera on that day or would that sound too weird?

Who goes round to someone's house to look at holiday photos these days?! Especially a work colleague?! Sorry sounds a bit far fetched to me!

Although I am laughing at some of these responses - especially the one (sorry can't remember who posted) which says to say you got it confused with the Cheddar Gorge 😂

.

Beautiful3 · 14/05/2024 17:01

If she mentions it again just say, I didn't go there. You were telling me all about when you'd gone there." Don't lie and carry it on, that's worse!

IReallyStillCantBeBothered · 14/05/2024 17:04

Hahaha this made laugh so much lol.

If you want to double down theres a Facebook page called free photoshop edits where post pictures as ask people to edit in various ways, you can upload some pictures and ask them to photoshop you at the Grand Canyon lol.

But my advice would be to just tell her you weren’t really listening or avoid her for the next 5 years 😀

I was trying to put screenshots of some examples but it’s not uploading but some of the requests and output are hilarious.

Also, who on earth asks to come round to look at someone’s holiday photos?! 😂

Was going to say exactly this. Are we in 1985 perhaps?

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 14/05/2024 18:26

Maybe you can brazen it out with a cheery 'What happens in the Grand Canyon, stays in the Grand Canyon' accompanied by a big wink.

Then distract her with your cheese fondue set.

Koulibiak · 14/05/2024 18:37

This reminds me of the thread where the poster was giving training to a huge group at work and started her presentation saying ‘Good morning, I’m Susan Hernandez’ and someone calmly said ‘No you’re not, I am Susan Hernandez’ 😂

I think most of us have done something like this in our lives. Try not to worry.

if it makes you feel any better, just after I had had my second baby, a lady who lived locally saw me in the local shop and asked me what I had.
I told her I had a girl .
I hadn’t it was a boy 🤪
I realise straightaway, but I couldn’t say anything, in case She thought I was bonkers.
Unfortunately, she started asking me what the name was et cetera. Luckily I managed to tell her my other child’s name.
I still think about how daft it was that I couldn’t remember what I’d given birth too . Never mind 🤪

I’ve done something similar - when I came back after my second mat leave I took on a new account and mentioned to my client that I was newly back from mat leave. She asked if it was my first and for some reason - I genuinely have no idea why - I said yes.

It’s been 18 months, I still have the account, luckily we don’t really talk family but I have to remind myself before every meeting (once a quarter) that DC1 for that hour does not exist 🙈🙈🙈

Options:

  1. sorry I dropped the camera I was using down the canyon.

  2. oh that Grand Canyon, I thought you meant a similarly named rollercoaster?

  3. whilst there I realised I'm terrified of heights, I can't relive the terror please don't make me.

  4. whoops I thought you were asking if I'd brought a rather grand carry-on as my flight bag- what am I like?!

  5. move abroad.

Louise303 · 14/05/2024 20:30

Just say you forgot to bring your camera on the trip to the canyon its easier than telling her you were not listening.

😂😂😂😂

What's a Grand Canyon? 😂😂😂

Omg don't do this OP. It's a bit like saying What's the Eiffel Tower.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

daisychain01 · 14/05/2024 20:53

Say you mixed up your holidays and you actually visited the Sistine Chapel.

TheShellBeach · 14/05/2024 20:53

I'm really enjoying this thread.

Is nobody going to question why she’s so keen and inviting herself round to look at pictures etc - how is that even still a thing in 2024?
Other than what my friends share on their social media, I have not seen anybody’s holiday pictures for a good 10-15 years.

Yes! This is more strange than the OP pretending she went to the Grand Canyon. Who does a slide show and compares holiday photos? So dull.

Just put her off.

daisychain01 · 14/05/2024 20:58

You're pulling our plonker on that one, OP, that has to be a chinny reckon Grin

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 10/05/2024 17:37

Do people still go round to friends' houses to look at holiday photos and videos?

I reckon she suspected op hadn’t gone when they were “chatting” about it! Hence the photo request …

JohnSt1 · 14/05/2024 21:06

Tell her there's a casino called the Grand Canyon in Las Vegas and you went there.

cockadoodledandy · 14/05/2024 21:08

Just say “eh? Did I say we’d been?! I must’ve had a complete brain fart that day! No we didn’t go.”

I have auditory processing problems and I do stuff like this all the time. I have no words of advice to offer - I usually just end up pretending for the rest of my life out of shame and embarrassment and then living with fear of being found out and self-loathing for having accidentally lied😬😅

That’s it oP! Auditory processing problems!

That’s what I first thought only it sounds as though the friend yacked on about it a bit in a way that wouldn’t fit with a discussion of something other than … well… a Grand Canyon. I suppose it could be a brothel .

Tell her there's a casino called the Grand Canyon in Las Vegas and you went there.

That seems highly likely, actually.

Chrispackhamspoodle · 14/05/2024 21:19

The only option is to fly back out and visit the Grand Canyon before you next see her.How much annual leave have you got?

While I appreciate your creative mind, I vote for number 5 😂
