To be sick of people calling everything a 'hack'?

Why is everything suddenly a hack?
Just watched a video about a 'Disney land park hack'

What was it? Taking a massive churro and breaking it in half for 2 small kids.
How is that a fucking hack? It's just common sense??

I prefer it to tip. Tip always makes me think of penises.

This has really made me chuckle 😂

Floortile · 10/05/2024 08:27

I think that when the hack - concept was new the hacks were a bit more advanced and creative than just a "tip". Like how to turn an Ikea book case into a submarine using just a cucumber and two rusty screws

FurQuenelle · 10/05/2024 08:35

On Chateau DIY last night they gleefully trailed that X had come up with a genius solution for "disguising" the rusty garden tables for an indoor event.

He put tablecloths over them!

And while we’re at it, I’d like to line up and shoot every single instagrammer who taps their hideous fake nails on every one of the 75 products they’re applying to their face.

Can I add to this the speeded up application so you can't actually see what they are doing (generally 8 layers of super thick foundation no where near their skin colour) !

Fizbosshoes · 10/05/2024 09:03

My teen DD often offers beauty "hacks" (obviously thinks I need all the help I can get!) but they're literally recycled advice from Just 17 or Jackie magazine circa 1992. I read and ignored them 30 years ago!

That sounds like one of the money saving tips in Take A Break.

I mean...they're ridiculous!

Bjorkdidit · 10/05/2024 09:09

Ridiculous that people do this sort of thing, or ridiculous that people are claiming they're worth making a thing of?

Surely if an attraction charges a lot of money for a food item that would comfortably feed two, you buy them one to share rather than buy two and throw most of it away?

I think the thing that annoys me most of all is wobbling everything held up to the camera.

Yes! What the fuck is the waggling items at the camera about??? I keep seeing an ad for a cosmetics brand on IG where a model applies blusher, eyeshadow etc and then solemnly waggles each tube next to her cheekbone, as if that’s going to communicate urgency or something! It has made me resolve never to buy any.

There's nothing new under the sun.

Basically the trend for better video retention among the younger demographic, to have fairly frequent movement or wobbles, it’s why lots of short form gaming videos have popping subtitles and image shakes every couple of seconds.

Fizbosshoes · 10/05/2024 09:33

My money saving hack for Disney would be not to go!

God, I feel so old fashioned now, I'd have used gaffer tape and chewing gum.

That was my guess, to try to keep people's attention.

@Itsallsostressful yes... often very yellow when their skin is porcelain with pink undertones. I sometimes click on the comments expecting people to say 'that's nowhere near your shade', but it's usually people saying how gorgeous it looks.

RightOnTheEdge · 10/05/2024 09:49

YANBU OP!

I absolutely refuse to look at any "hack" that starts with something like

"Chef says we are all cooking roast potatoes wrong!"
"Stop doing your pony tail like this!"
"Stop wearing your shirt like this!"

Fuck off! Your not the boss of me! 😠

Mayhemmumma · 10/05/2024 09:54

Not as bad as the obsession of applying tons of make up on public transport. Why on earth do people want to watch this and why doesn't anyone on said bus or train say anything?

I saw a video of a woman demonstrating how to use those heatless curler hair ribbon things on a plane, next to what appeared to be a random stranger. She had really long hair so it took ages to do and a lot of encroaching into her neighbour's space.

kierenthecommunity · 10/05/2024 10:51

I also feel disproportionate rage at ‘articles’ that say

‘run don’t walk’ (to Boots/Primark etc for some item or other)

’X celeb breaks silence’ over something that happened yesterday

’X sentence’ cry/scream fans - people are crying and screaming, really?

’All fans are saying the same thing’ - (usually about some soap storyline) - doubt that 🤔

GettingStuffed · 10/05/2024 10:54

This is a tip not a hack. If you are serving green beans it's easier to dish them up with tongs than a spoon.

TwoBigNoisyBoys · 10/05/2024 11:54

Agree with all of these!! Also have to add another peeve of mine…

”It’s giving…” 🤬🤬

Grrrr!!! Shut UP!!!

UnderGreenGrass · 10/05/2024 12:21

Life hack coming up! Delete social media accounts from your phone so you don't have to read about life hacks anymore.

SometimesIDowonder · 10/05/2024 12:23

Wanna hear my hack for not getting frustrated about people calling stuff hacks?

tennesseewhiskey1 · 10/05/2024 12:24

Its for the gram- they 'hope' it'll go viral.

Rustycheeks · 10/05/2024 12:30

I saw the same video and watched it a couple of times because I was like, is this satire, are they really trying to suggest this is a "hack", what the fuck is going on here and why is someone bothering to film it?

JimJonesLivesInMyHead · 10/05/2024 13:05

One of my favourite Top Tips from Viz was a cheap way of getting a personalised car registration number plate:
Simply change your name to fit the initials on the number plate you already have!

I used to love Viz Top Tips 🤣
