To ask if most of us have forgotten about Ukraine

BeaBachinasec · 09/05/2024 17:51

The invasion was terrifying and dramatic. We admired the plucky Ukrainians defending their homeland against the mighty Russian bear.

And now? I'm not quite sure what's going on anymore and wonder if most of us have lost interest as the war has rumbled on relentlessly.

There's a whole topic on the conflict in the Middle East, nothing like that for Ukraine.

Why though?

Do you not think the vast majority of people have their own stuff to deal with?

YaMuvva · 10/05/2024 00:24

This is what happens when people use their support for a war as a fad rather than something sustained that they care about.

You asked a question, I gave you an answer 🤷‍♀️. Plus, this IS our “stuff” to deal with, as an emboldened, threatening Putin is everybody’s problem. We are part of NATO and we have signed the Budapest Memorandum.

If having your own stuff to deal with is a valid reason, then it is a reason to not care about any issues at all other than what directly impinges on your small world.

Your choice to bury your head in the sand. This war may end up at your doorstep but you wouldn't see it coming. Hopefully that does not happen because others do care and do their bit.

Tr1skel1on · 10/05/2024 00:37

No absolutely not! My Y11 daughter brought home her year book and it had a quote from a Ukrainian lad, I survived bombs, you are worried about school z?!

For context we live on a tiny island in the middle of nowhere.

I know people are worried about immigration but if our local tiny shit high school can make it work anywhere can

Our only claim to fame is a Chinese lass who had to move here quite suddenly was officially declared best in the world at Mandarin I think after doing her exams!

If we can make it work here then anyone can

ILoveYouItsRuiningMyLife · 10/05/2024 00:38

It’ll change nothing. It won’t stop it ending up on our doorstep.

Because……?

I think the whole schtick about Zelensky being the noble frontiersman of the last western outpost is wearing a bit thin. Hopefully there will in time be a full evaluation. He's done the job we wanted him to do for us ie weaken Putin, who was previously phenomenally useful in terms of keeping a lid on problematic actors while still enabling insane wealth building, but who did get too big for his boots. Sadly, the rise of one and the slide of the other got a lot of people killed.

So, what do you suggest as an alternative to your reductive statement of the Zelensky “schtick”?

Your post does not make sense. You seem to think this is a game or a movie. Or maybe an opportunity for you to sound clever with meaningless soundbites.

GordonBlue · 10/05/2024 00:57

No, it's a power struggle. Like all wars.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 10/05/2024 01:00

Christ, some people live in another world.

I engage with news from Ukraine and with other Ukraine supporters every day. In my world it’s as much the main event in world news as it was on the first day of the full scale invasion.

Alright then. Have a good life.

This thread has inspired me to donate a chunky sum to the Ukraine war effort. More fool me.

Oh don't be so bloody soft. There are lots of people in the UK and across the world who think zelensky is compromised.

Incidentally, if you want to talk about forgotten wars that Russia is involved in, have you seen what's happening in Armenia recently? Today, in fact? On the back of the clearance/genocide last year?

Nope, still not making sense with your word salad. Try harder.

Have you got some kind of rogue browser that renders the king's English unintelligible? Maybe you've been hacked.

You'd know all about hacking Wink

How tedious. For someone with a supposed interest in the situation your responses are decidedly limited.

Almost like they're written by a bot.

Takes one to know one, eh?

Unlike you, I did not just start posting yesterday. But you are right, it is not worth responding to you. Good night.

GordonBlue · 10/05/2024 02:04

Message board posters are mortal. Bots run forever.

Sweet dreams, friend. I'm sure that multi millionaire zelensky will be grateful for your money. He might put it toward a new salt pot for his mansion in Mayfair.

Mairzydotes · 10/05/2024 07:02

No , I don't think people have forgotten, there are still fundraisers . People have realised it too will be an ongoing conflict.

There are other conflicts happening in the world that aren't in the news often .

spuddy4 · 10/05/2024 07:04

A lot of people I speak with are starting to wonder why this war is still ongoing given the amount of money it's had thrown at it.
