to enjoy an afternoon nap

60ish, working part time, kids are adults, every afternoon I am free I like to snuggle under the duvet about 2 ish and have a little doze for an hour or so.

Does everyone else my age indulge, or plough on to the end of the day?

I often do get up very early

YABU - you're acting like an old lady, or else very lazy!

YANBU - it's fine, we all do it if we can!

Twice a week I finish work just over an hour ahead of DD getting home from an after school club, so I set an alarm for 45 minutes, wrap myself up in a blanket on the sofa and sleep. The best two days of the week!

I’m 51, work full time, kids are grown really (24 and 16), have dogs, horses, busy life. I take a nap any time I can, I often take 30-45 mins during my lunch break especially when I’m working on things that require me to really think (I write a lot of comms Etc) and I’m so much better after a little nap :)

I'm 48 and my kids are 18 and 15 but my life sounds exactly like you. I love a nana nap!!

YANBU - I am in my 30s and would love to indulge in an afternoon nap. I most certainly will when I reach a time my afternoons are free for me to do just that!

Abigaillovesholidays · 07/05/2024 21:06

Enjoy the naps! My toddler still has an afternoon nap and I sometimes join her. Will be gutted when she no longer naps in the day!

Josette77 · 07/05/2024 21:08

I have awful insomnia.

If I can take an nap in the afternoon I do! It's the best sleep I have. I don't often get to anymore but I would if I could! I'm 46 but 90 on the inside to be fair. 😉

Ellie1015 · 07/05/2024 21:09

Sounds awesome!! I definitely will be doing the same. Right now in the stage of homework, sports clubs and neverending washing. Definitely will be napping regularly when I can.

Tospyornottospy · 07/05/2024 21:29

I cannot stand naps! I always wake up feeling irritable and then groggy/more tired! I had one this weekend and was a rage machine after 🤣

Backrollz · 08/05/2024 01:32

I'm 30 no kids and love a nap.

LSTMS30555 · 08/05/2024 02:39

I'm early 40's and absolutely love an afternoon nap. Can't get through the day without it.

zebrazoop · 08/05/2024 02:56

I nap whenever I can. I’m a bad sleeper - hence posting on mums net at 3am

Yuckyyuckyuckity · 08/05/2024 03:00

I love a nap but I never wake up feeling refreshed, I always feel groggy and sluggish ☹️ what am I doing wrong!

MegsNaiceJam · 08/05/2024 03:10

I love a nap. I see it as a hobby. In Winter I bought a heater blanket which is bliss for napping. Or having a nap on a sunny afternoon in spring or summer. I’m the only one in the house who can nap.

Nap, forty winks, snooze, shut-eye, a little lie down, nodding off, I love it!

mjf981 · 08/05/2024 05:36

I'm 40 and have an afternoon nap whenever possible. Usually just on the sofa for about half an hour. Its brilliant. Wish I could do it at work, I'd be much more productive.
I think if you can easily nap, then you should do it. Its natural for some; your body needs the rest. If it didn't, you wouldn't be able to fall asleep.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 08/05/2024 06:48

I often have an afternoon zizz on the sofa. I set my phone timer, though, for not more than an hour - I don’t want to go into a very deep sleep.

How long do you nap for? 20 minutes or so is normally ideal

STST · 14/05/2024 22:14

@Yuckyyuckyuckity @Nonewclothes2024 @Tospyornottospy

Might be length of nap that is the problem.

As @UnderMyUmbrellaEllaEllaEllaEllaElla says, 20 minutes is optimum.

Something about interrupting a sleep cycle is the issue; if you try to wake up during a period of deep sleep, you feel groggy and sleepy afterwards, so you need to just have a light sleep and wake up before the deep sleep part of the cycle.

Either that or do a full light/REM/deep cycle, which is longer; I think 90 minutes or something?
