to enjoy an afternoon nap

60ish, working part time, kids are adults, every afternoon I am free I like to snuggle under the duvet about 2 ish and have a little doze for an hour or so.

Does everyone else my age indulge, or plough on to the end of the day?

I often do get up very early

YABU - you're acting like an old lady, or else very lazy!

YANBU - it's fine, we all do it if we can!

I've always loved naps, even if you don't sleep, it's a bit of downtime to relax and recharge your batteries! Even just 20 mins free time, lie down, blanket and snuggle 😴

MumMumMumMumMumMumMum · 07/05/2024 19:36

Do it! Enjoy the naps, I'm jealous!

Kazeragi · 07/05/2024 19:37

I listened to a podcast with one of these lifestyle/ efficiency expert types and they heavily recommended napping. Not for too long, I think 25 mins or something random like that? But apparently very good for you. I definitely dip 2pm ish

WolfFoxHare · 07/05/2024 19:38

I’ve always loved a nap but I’ve really cut it down in recent years because it means I don’t sleep as well at night.

pilates · 07/05/2024 19:39

I have a little nap with my dog on the days I don’t work. No one knows 🤫

LisaD1 · 07/05/2024 19:42

I’m 51, work full time, kids are grown really (24 and 16), have dogs, horses, busy life. I take a nap any time I can, I often take 30-45 mins during my lunch break especially when I’m working on things that require me to really think (I write a lot of comms Etc) and I’m so much better after a little nap :)

notprincehamlet · 07/05/2024 19:47

Yanbu - but I get sleep paralysis when I nap 😱

CrushingOnRubies · 07/05/2024 19:53

Yanbu

I get grumpy if I don't have a nap unless I have a snack.

PassingStranger · 07/05/2024 20:08

Nothing wrong with that.

TowerRavenSeven · 07/05/2024 20:11

Yes! I’ve felt guilty for years about it though!

Q2C4 · 07/05/2024 20:13

I'm so jealous- I have two preschoolers who don't sleep well, I have low ferritin levels and I work full time so I am constantly exhausted. I would nap if I could!!

saveusername111 · 07/05/2024 20:14

My favourite saying is "If you really love someone, let them Nap" You can't beat it and I feel so energised after!

Until I started my current job, I always had an afternoon nap (I am 46). 20 minutes of shut-eye in the afternoon can easily give me an extra couple of hours of being awake in the evening.

Same. I wfh and often have a 20-30 minute nap after lunch. I'm then MUCH MUCH more productive in the afternoon.

gamerchick · 07/05/2024 20:17

Love a nanna nap me. Grin

user1471462634 · 07/05/2024 20:18

Yes, whenever I get the chance. Not so much during the week as I work but definitely at the weekend if I'm home. Tiredness just takes over mid afternoon. I could sleep for a couple of hours & feel refreshed after not groggy.
Been like that since my 20s, in my 50s now.

distinctpossibility · 07/05/2024 20:19

I'm 35 and have a nap every day that I can. Probably 3 or 4 times a week, as I wfh and can squeeze a nap into my lunch break occasionally. Up to 2 hours on the weekend, usually 20 or 40 mins in the week. I never wake up naturally in the morning, I'm always launched out of bed and headlong straight into the day by my 5 year old so it's my way of coping.

STST · 07/05/2024 20:21

I call them my magical naps...

Up every morning, fully awake and ready to go at 5.30/6am - never have to set an alarm.

20-25 minute nap sometime between 10am and 2pm, no later. Wake up fully alert and recharged, it’s like a full night’s sleep. Any longer than 25 mins is a disaster, feel groggy and half asleep for the rest of the day.

Naps are underestimated, they are AMAZING

Mollyplop999 · 07/05/2024 20:26

I'm always up at 6 and I'm very active. Most days I have a nap around 2. I love it😴

ConcernedOfClapham · 07/05/2024 19:30

I sleep much better during the day so will often nap for an hour two if i can get away with it during the afternoon. I feel so much better for it; I don’t sleep well at night because the darkness is conducive to anxiety setting in.

Go for it!

This sounds incredibly difficult do you manage to sleep at all at night ? Least you can safely enjoy your nap.

Createausername1970 · 07/05/2024 20:31

Definitely like a nap! I find something easy going on the TV, cup of tea, blanket, dog. I feel refreshed after it.

VeraForever · 07/05/2024 20:37

I usually have one after lunch. Then walk the dog afterwards.

Nonewclothes2024 · 07/05/2024 20:43

Love a nap. Usually feel crap afterwards though.

MissAmbrosia · 07/05/2024 20:54

The weekend ones I call Nanna Naps - can squeeze in a couple of hours on a Sat or Sunday afternoon when DH always seems to have Columbo on. In the week, my office is dd's/spare room so I normally have at least 30 mins lie down with my book and some times I doze and sometimes I don't. I need the lap top/ work break.

ImthatBoleyngirl · 07/05/2024 20:58

I've been taking naps since I was in my 20s

ettieb · 07/05/2024 20:58
