To think level crossings need to be banned

Or at least all monitored by CCtv at all times? I just feel they cause awful risk to both people on food and in cars.

I don't think I've ever encountered a level crossing that doesn't have CCTV.

I live in a country that doesn't even have fences between the railway and footpaths (although the level crossings have barriers). For some reason, they are not considered necessary here although they do exist in some places beside tracks where express trains run.

A few years ago I was cycling along a cycle track when I thought I heard a steam train whistle. Although I'd seen some tracks and sleepers running alongside the cycle track, I'd guessed that these must have been disused as there was no fence or any warning signs. I looked over my shoulder and there was indeed a veteran steam train approaching, running right next to the cycle track and footpath - as you can see here

Where my ds lives, near a crossing, idiots have been known to try to jump the barriers and one young lad caught his foot and fell on the live rail. CCTV wouldn't have prevented that.
