Hi all, I just wanted to bring your attention to the fact there is a fundraiser set up for the burgled farmer's legal defence.
Don't know if I'm allowed to post a direct link? You can Google Rob Lomas fundraiser and you will find it.
Aware there is another thread discussing this bit fundraiser buried in there a bit.

I quite agree with this.

Also, farming is hard work and a LOT of farmers cannot afford to employ helpers. He cannot farm his land while he is being questioned in a police interview, so will be falling short. I don't think it should specify that it is for legal fees.

Nobody said it should specify that, or that it should be for that. It should be clear what it is for though, and the op said it was for his legal defence. I think it's only right that is made clear on this thread that the fundraiser doesn't suggest it's for that.

(And also that they are now at 4 times the initial target. Maybe people that want to help someone should start looking at less high profile fundraisers)

Pleasestopkickingme · 04/05/2024 23:09

The poster who said weed stash was playing devil's advocate. They were pointing out that it's wise not to assume that the farmer is completely innocent until all of the facts and evidence are made public. I don't think they were suggesting the farmer was actually growing weed.

DoreenonTill8 · 04/05/2024 23:15

How are they 'playing Devils Advocate' to state the farmers a criminal drug lord?!

Pleasestopkickingme · 04/05/2024 23:22

@DoreenonTill8 I didn't think I'd have to actually break it down into tiny little chunks because it's hardly rocket science... and actually, I'm not going to because I can't be arsed.

Oh no @Pleasestopkickingme your argument is amazing.

@Settlement22 on this thread and the other one, there's clearly either the robbers supporters, or posters who are of the 'all property is theft, people can take what they want and their violence is fine, but anyone who disagrees or uses violence on them is wrong' belief....🙄

How did I miss this gem 😂

Given that you are quoting a post that was quoting me, it looks very much like I am the person who this is supposed to describe.

I don't support the robbers, nor do I subscribe to the notion that all property is theft. I am very surprised at how well-liked the deceased appears to be - it's definitely at odds with his actions.

I am of the opinion shared by others that not enough information is in the public domain at this stage to know whether or not the farmer was justified, but I can understand why he was prepared for then coming given he was apparently also burgled the night before.

That's what I thought until they said 'depending on what account you read' - which suggested to me that rumours are flying around. But I might be wrong about that.

Densol · 05/05/2024 02:24

I donated a tenner. I dont care what they actually spend the money on in the end.

If there was no burglary, there would be no shooting. Its very simple.

Settlement22 · 05/05/2024 12:04

NeverEnoughPants · 04/05/2024 21:50

I didn't think there was any need for you to point out that 'it's totally fine' for people not to donate. I think it's blindingly obvious.

And as that post was specifically aimed at me, rather than 'polite and kind' it came across as patronising and supercilious. Hence my response.

I was simply agreeing with you, not 'giving you permission'. I don't think agreeing with someone is patronising but if you want to live your life thinking someone supporting your point of view is patronising then go ahead.

OP posts:
NeverEnoughPants · 05/05/2024 12:43

It didn't come across like you were agreeing with me. I said they had enough as they had smashed their target, you said it wasn't enough.

I can only go by how it comes across. I apologise if I was wrong.

It says funeral costs and support the family. Difference being those who are donating to support Marcus and family know its going to the family, those supporting the farmer could be paying legal fees for a murderer who shot a kid in the back. I wouldn't have rushed to support the farmer as no one knows what he needs yet. The boy though, needs a funeral

AJ1982 · 05/05/2024 16:27

They also originally said it was for legal fees but on reviewing go fund mes t&cash realised that raising money for legal fees was not allowed so they changed it. So essentially everyone is just giving the man money, a man who sits on millions as it is and doesn't need a penny.

I didn’t realise this, I just assumed that a person would always qualify for legal aid for such serious crimes.

They are.

peakygold · 05/05/2024 16:32

I don't car whether the burglar was after a car, tractor or weed stash. It wasn't his to take. Farmers have to put up with so much theft and fly-tipping. They work so hard and we'd starve without them. Happy to donate.

He’s 19, he’s a man, not a boy.

A lot of information is missing and I worry that all those who jave donated their money in support of the farmer which is now well over 40k, will / could regret that when full details emerge. Yes he was being burgled but I can tell you there is so much more that will come out

Bumping this so more people see it and donate

Oh c'mon.

We had someone like you (or maybe it was you) on another thread. Someone from the community that loves burglars and sees no issues with breaking into people's homes 🫠

DonnaBanana · 07/05/2024 19:52

I do think people should be encouraged to defend their homes and businesses. It would cut crime down. If you look at the big supermarkets now getting looted all the time it's because they tell their staff to just let it happen whereas you do not see it happening at small independent off licenses where the proprietor probably has some weapons behind the counter. I hope he gets let free and does it again next time it happens.

Why does the family of the 19 year old need money? Seems a bit dubious to me. He didn't leave a wife and kids to support did he? Funeral fair enough but that isn't the thousands they are asking for

Whenwillitgetwarm · 07/05/2024 20:28

Hmm how do we know it’s not the family and friends of the beneficiary claiming they’ve ’just donated’ and encouraging others to donate? It all seems a bit budge theory to me.

Also why would anyone rush to donate before the facts of the case are known? How odd.

OMG - are you for real ? Or a relative of the burglar ?
you refer to the filthy burglar as "Marcus" but just call the victim "the farmer"
smh - only on MN 🤬
